I'd like to get some baby chicks for my kids as gifts. I live in south Jersey. Where can I get them? Please help. Thanks.

Answer
Chicks are cute as an Easter gift, but what will you do with them when they grow up? Do you have the space and time to take care of full grown chickens? Maybe you should think this through.

What would a newborn mom want right after she has the baby?

My hubby a

I work for a state medical insurance, and we are trying to figure out what we can give to newborn moms we are giving the newborns baby stuff and a gift card for baby's r us, but what about the moms what are some ideas to give them? Bath robe, slippers, nice lotions, candles etc? Something to make them feel good and not forgotten with the newborn and all?
The majority of these women are low income moms thats why they are on state medicaid programs

Answer
You are talking about buying this stuff using my tax dollars? I work for a living and ended up with a $3000 hospital bill (insurance only paid a portion) and what did my state buy me? NOTHING.

Why is tax money being wasted on presents? We just gave her the "present" of a baby & pregnancy that she didn't have to pay for.

Why is it that I get to work harder, take more jobs, can't afford to have another baby, yet if I would only stop working and leave my husband, I could get a day at the spa. I sure as heck can't afford it now.

If it is my tax money, then I say buy her birth control and parenting classes so I don't end up paying for her kid to have kids they can't afford either.

What crap. When are we going to stop REWARDING people who make bad choices? WHEN?

I think Santa is fun for the children and gift exchanging comes from the wise men bringing gifts to Baby Jesus but I also think if people are going to celebrate this wonderful holiday that we keep its meaning in our hearts also and to share it with others.

Answer
Technically He was probably more likely born in September or October...but yeah, it's true, we do need to remember that Jesus came for us =) and we do need to keep Him and His love in our hearts, & we need to share it, that's true :)

What is the name of the youtube video about a modern/technology christmas advent?

We watched it in school, but I forgot the name/link.
It is all modern and technology related so like joseph and mary have emails and the 3 wise men have emails and then they "follow" the star on twitter and buy their gifts for baby jesus on ebay. I thought it was hilarious does anyone know what I am talking about/ give me a link?

Do family members normally give a gift to the mum when the baby is born, or only at the bridal shower. Also, as I am male, do I send a gift to the bridal shower?

And what are nice presents to give for the baby? I think maybe just a gift voucher for a baby store, what do you think?

Thanks clever people!
Yes, the baby did become before the wedding but I do mean baby shower. Thanks

Answer
a gift voucher is good. new baby means lots of purchases before and after the birth. i would pick a store that you know they will shop in. sorry not telling you anything you don't already know.

however, if you are fishing for an actual present idea, i'd go with something they don't have yet but need: crib, stroller, musical mobile, baby monitor, baby toys. depends on your budget.

Is it rude to ask for something in particular for a baby shower gift?

Bec

I have a few friends who are all pregnant at the same time, including myself, so we have been discussing baby shower ideas. These babies are all 2nd babies for us, and were not really sure about what to do.

We all have things left over from our 1st babies, so we don't need much. We also don't want any of that generic baby shower stuff like powders, creams, etc and other useless crap we will never use.

Is it wrong to tell people what you want, ie on the invitation or something, or even request money or a gift voucher? What do you think?

Answer
With my first baby I did not know how the hole registry thing, and tons of people kept asking me "what do you want? what do you need?" so I told them all the same things and do you know what I got? 20 powders, tons of baby shampoo, lots of baby lotion, and it took me about 2 years to use all of it! (not complaining, just had to keep finding places to put them). then I got 2 bouncers, 2 play and packs, 2 swings. etc.

so with my second I made a registry and got stuff that i NEEDED, I love the fact that they have registries now because now you want get to much stuff you don't need, and get what you really need.
and no it's not rude! when ever I hear about a baby shower I find their registry.
and don't be afraid to ask for money, that's what my sister did, was not rude or anything.

Does anyone have information on Irish Baby Shower Traditions?

gifts for baby ireland image

MommaB

I am planning a baby shower for a friend with a St. Patty's theme. Any help with traditional Irish baby showers is helpful.

Answer
Maybe I've just led a sheltered life, but I've never heard of anyone having a baby shower except in American TV shows and films, and I'm from Ireland. I don't think it's really a thing we do here. If someone's having a baby, her friends might just give her gifts of their own accord, maybe after the baby is born, but not at a special party. At least that's what I've always seen with my friends and relatives.

Can anyone help with ideas for an Irish themed bridal shower?

JBrown428

My best friend (who is Irish) is getting married and I would like to throw her an Irish themed wedding shower. Conveniently, we will be having the shower in March, right around St. Patrick's Day, but other than that I have no idea what else to do. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to common traditions at bridal showers in Ireland or any ideas at all that I could use for this bridal party? Thanks so much!

Answer
Don't go overboard. Go to Party City and pick up some St Patrick's day decorations. Perhaps get a claddagh on the cake. Celtic knots, bagpipes, or even merely serving Harps or Guinness to drink. Plaid for tartans are as much Irish as Scottish. Shamrocks, clovers and an upside down horseshoe for luck. Also consider a gift relating to it. An afgan with an Irish blessing. A bit of magic from the fairy folk--if she is one for babies soon, there are quite a lot of Irish books on the folklore and legends of the Emerald Isle.

How far along were you when you started a baby registry?

coed baby shower gifts on Gift Wrapping Ideas | Creative Gift Wrapping | The Gifted Blog
coed baby shower gifts image

Kayla

I am 19 weeks and 6 days pregnant today.
I'm due September 1st.
Having a coed baby shower in July sometime.

Yesterday my fiance and I found out we are expecting a little girl!!! We are beyond excited (of course) to meet her, but also excited to make a baby registry.

I'm just curious to know how far along you were when you made a registry?
Thanks for your time (:

Answer
We started it right around 20 weeks - not long after we found out the gender! You can always go to the store and start the registry and then add to it or edit it online later on.

One tip. If you plan to add clothes to your registry (which really isn't necessary because you'll get a ton whether you ask for them or not), then wait to add those just a couple of weeks before the shower. Clothes are seasonal and if you add them now, then they'll be out of stock in July when people are buying your gifts!

What kind of event can I have that is to celebrate a baby, but not an actual baby shower?

Florida~Gi

What kind of party/event/function can I have to celebrate a baby on the way? I want it to be co-ed, and not necessarily a "baby shower". This isn't about the gifts, and I do not want people to feel obligated to bring something which is why i'm going against a traditional baby shower. I just want it to be a get together with everyone before the baby comes and I become too busy to really see everyone (at least for the first few months). Do I invite people for a "baby celebration" but say no gifts needed? what could i call this function and how do i get the point across that a gift isnt needed.

Answer
Why not just have a coed baby party? Leave the word, 'shower' out of the invitation wording, and you can include in words to the effects that NO Gifts, Please, OR your presences is your gift. Then, plan some fun games where the guys can participate and enjoy just as the gals do. As you no doubt know, it is becoming very popular to invite the men along with the women to have a really fun couples baby shower party.

What are your absolute favorite toys for 6-12 month olds?

gift for baby 12 months image

Emmy Jo (1

Our son will be turning 6 months old tomorrow, and we want to get him a few new toys as a half birthday gift. What are your favorite toys for your 6-12 month old, and what do you love about them?

Answer
My son is 10 mos.
-He particularly likes anything with large wheels that he can turn. He has a large plastic truck with no small parts and a little train with a few cars (also no small parts). I like these because he'll spend a lot of time just turning the wheels, but then he can also push it around the room.
-He also likes things that makes a sound if you press one specific area (he has a dragon that burps--I've no idea who came up with that but it still cracks us both up!).
-Here's something that I can't describe, but he loved it especially around 6-8 mos. http://www.thinkgeek.com/geek-kids/b0a3/
-Another favorite are bathtime squirt toys like these: http://www.amazon.com/Elegant-Baby-Piece-Squirties-Vinyl/dp/B000G7WYNI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1278662459&sr=1-4 They're fun in the bath but he also enjoys carrying them around and blowing air at himself.
-There's also the "Scout" dog (and similar products). These are more expensive (ours was a gift), though still very affordable at around $20, and they can be programmed to talk to your child and say his name, plus you can choose songs and music that it "sings" which also can be personalized. I noticed that once we got it (at 5 mos) he started responding to his name quite a bit more and I think that it will later help him build a rudimentary vocabulary. http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-19156-My-Pal-Scout/dp/B001W30D2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1278662573&sr=1-1
-Board books are also great. Our son doesn't care so much to be read to yet, but he likes turning the pages (and eating them). Later maybe we'll actually get him to pay attention to the words. :)

You didn't ask, but here are some "non-baby" baby toys that our son loves:
-a lightweight flashlight. It rolls, he can hold it and he's endlessly delighted with turning the light on and off
-a set of 'blank' keys. He used to play with our keys, but as soon as he became mobile we could never find them when we needed them. I went a hardware store and bought a few different keys (not carved to any specific design) and put them on a ring. He loves it and I know where my keys are now!
-a half-full bottle of water (tightly closed). It rolls, it reflects the light, makes sound. Our son learned to crawl chasing after a bottle of water.
-a small non-helium balloon (but of course only when supervised). My son loves this; he'll chase it around and he loves hitting himself (and others) with it.

Happy birthday to your son; if you haven't already, you should be starting to get more sleep soon. :)

Q. I'm planning a birthday party for Jesus for my children's church program. I need ideas for activities, crafts and games. I'm trying to focus it all on giving, serving, the candy cane story and Jesus' birth, of course. Let me know any and all ideas!

Answer
For the children at my church, I have large Nativity cut-outs that the children will hang on the wall as we read the Christmas story. (I ordered mine from Oriental trading, by the way, but I'm sure you could make poster-sized pictures of all the characters, too) Then the children will each take a smaller-sized cut out in the shape of a gift box, write on it a gift that they can give to Jesus .... be nice to my brother, say my prayers, read my scriptures, tell the truth, etc... and then place those gifts at baby Jesus' feet.

what spirirual practice?

Savannah

I hate Christianity i was once christian... I only accept jesus out of fear and worry of hell. what other practices are there that are not weird and do challenge spiritual gifted people? I have dreams, vision and astro-projective experience. I want to increase my ability to know future thing more to the point that I can read peoples signs. I do not care for the devil nor do I care for the church. I want something that is spiritually focused I just do not know what I want be apart of a group. what is out there that I can learn about meditation is ok but it is not fun. I am very gifted and I was wonder about spiritual practices... I know other country like african, asian middle east are big on this practices. I killed many animals on my family farm so animal sacrifice do not bother me. I do not drink blood but I do not mind watching an animal die not people on the other hand is another story. I think that we do not have to right to kill but I never judge i am not killing and I do not want to be killed but I am not going to lie I have some cousin that I would not mine getting rid of lol...just joking but any ways what practices are out there... I lived in other country and they are more spiritually focused verus america... so you international give me some tip here help a sister out. I am black so if race matter take that in consideration. I looked into other country like asian buddhism but I did not find the edge I wanted just meditation and quote. I need a challenge that promote my gifting and a group to support me. many people do not beleive in spiritual gift I do not care just want people to support me so I do not feel alone in my experiences. I am not really into witch craft because I do not liek many demons or devils but I want to get in to some thing that help with my predictions rather it be seeking a spirit then I do not mind and my dream and my vision. what helps with lucky and money is there any thing? oh I am very artsticly talented and I am very intelligent... I want to be able to read people spiritual and give prediction so please tell me wome ideas and suggestion. I feel like I am a baby in my world of spirituality. I once went to church and was a Christian most of my family were in free masonry but I do not think that promote my gifts. the practice does not have to be popular. i prefer asian african or middle east but european and other suggestion are welcome. what groups are establish current that deal with spirituality?I hated the experience that I had with church I never want to be in a church like setting I do not want to be vulnerable or at a-cultic risk

Answer
You're obviously having a lot of problems with your spirituality. Possibly even more than you've mentioned so far.
This kind of thing requires back and forth discussion and discovery. It can't be phrased in a simple Q&A form.
So if you want to, feel free to PM me, we can talk it out. I've been studying various forms of spirituality all my life, I'd be happy to help.

Good luck either way.

I'll never forget when five people who I was once friends with all chipped in to but me a cheap and horrible-smelling perfume which I found out cost $20. I had spent $50-$100 on each of them for their Birthday gifts that year. Really showed me how much they cared for me.

Does anyone else wish to share their experiences?

Answer
My mother-in-law gave me a dish towel one year. Was that some kind of hint, or did she think I just would really love. . . a dish towel?

But my favorite crappy gift story comes from *my* mom: *her* mother-in-law, for their first Christmas as a wedded couple, gave my mother and father *two* twin bed sheet sets. Love that one.

How can I help my Mom cope with grief?

Nessa Chub

Recently, our uncle rolled his truck and passed away, but this was really harsh with us because he was our mom's twin brother.
I know that I might not ever understand what she's feeling right now, but I really want to know how I can help her in this specific situation since it hits so close for her.

How will I be able to help my mom through this? I feel so terrible for her, but I don't know what to say or do.

Answer
this is a very good question. Tell her that itls ok to express her feeling...if she wants to cry, she should doit. Don't even tell her to be strong and not to cry, all the contrary..she needs to get out from inside the pain. Encourage her by letting her know that with you or with whoever she feels comfortable it's fine to cry, or scream, or complain. She should know that whatever she is feeling is normal in this situation. Some people feel angry at life, guilt, feel like crying or breaking things, or just having some space..all is normal. There is no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to dealing with grief. Everyone grief differently. You should talk to her and ask her how she is doing and feeling and if she cries it's ok..tell her to do it and keep listening to whatever she feels like saying. Then reassure her that she is not alone, that you are with her supporting her in her pain. Don't tell her you know what she is going through..you don't. But tell her to find comfort in the good memories. Losing a loved one is like losing a piece of our own heart, the pain don't stop with time, but we can find comfort in good memories and by taking care of ourself. Tell her that as she expresses her sorrow and pain, (because whatever we do we should never burry a hurt alive) she should also remember to take care of herself and she does that by doing the best she can one day at the time. She should allow others to comfort her and care for her, she shouldn't feel bad for that and allow herself to be nurtured and cared for...she doesn't have to go through this alone. Remind her of that and also ask her if therels anything she feels guilt about. It's normal people remember bad things and feel guilt about things whena loved one dies. Encourage her to express her feelings and don't try to change them. It's only by sharing what she feels and getting out by talking or writing to someone that she might start to feel relieve. And most important, let her know that her brother knew how much she loved him, no matter what he knew that as she knows how much he loved her. He was a precious gift of love to your mom and she should remember that always. She should also know that the little or much she did for him while he was alive was enough. People always feel they could have done more for the loved one that passed away, let her know she did good. Repeat these words to her as many time as necessary. Let her be angry, cry or tell you the same stories over and over again until with time she will be finding acceptance and peace. It's necessary to talk and talk sometimes when going through grief but the grieving migt feel bad about repeating her feelings to someone or might believe she needs to stay strong. Open yourself to be there for her and let her know you are willing to walk by her side step by step in her grief as long as it takes, even a lifetime because losing a brother is something hurt for life. Hope this helps. And I'm sorry for your loss.

A friend of mine is trying to put together a surprise party for his mom's 50th birthday. She loves to step so that will be the theme. He had an idea of getting candles made in the shape of a couple dancing (some for the center pieces and smaller ones for party gifts). If he can find some that he can buy (meaning not get custom made) that would be even better. I did a few searches and didn't find anything, so im turning to trusty answers. Any ideas appreciated.

She says she doesn't want anything, but of course I'm going to get her something. She likes to cook but has every cooking gadget imaginable. What do you get a mom who has everything she wants? She doesn't like soaps or anything like that and she doesn't wear make up, but she does like yoga. Any good ideas for hand made gifts? What should I get her?

Answer
Does your mom need a new mat for her yoga? If so, this would be a great idea. You could scan an old picture that you like of her and make a handmade frame for it. It could be a Christmas ornament for the tree. My mom liked the button down sweaters I got her. Does your mom have a shredder that cuts up credit cards? That would be a useful gift. You could add a small Whitman's Sampler on top of this gift.

My mom is so hard to buy for! She has anything she could ever want and is extremely picky. I was going to get her a spa day but she is also weird about people touching her ha ha its a toughy! Any suggestions?

Answer
This question is so easy!!!!!! People like gifts and things but the excitment fades shortly afterwards. What people want ( moms) is for them to feel special and valued, and appreciated. Gifts dont do a gr8 job of that.heres what you do: You cook ur moms fav dish or get help preparing it ( no resturant!) show some effort your mom is worth it. anyone can order from a menu! make the setting special. candles, table cloth, wine, fav desert etc..Before your about to eat you look your mom in the eyes and tell her THANK YOU! thank u for being such a gr8 mom, thank u for giving up your life to raise me, for the love you have given me, for the support, humor, laughs, friendship, protection. for teaching me right and wrong etc..( the more the better, make the list long 10 or 15 things your mom has taught you or done for you) your main focus is going to be on your moms strengths! if there is brothers and sisters in the mix have them make their own list dad too. Tell HEr!! it might get emotional but to her she will feel so special that you do value and appreciate her, that memory will last far lot longer than any gift you can give her! get creative!

Okay new mom's what was your favorite gift that you got at your shower? I'm thinking between $30-$50.

Answer
My MIL gave us an embroidered blanket with my son's name. I absolutely love it!
Also, photo albums and frames are wonderful to have.
I just love the idea of something personalized- like a silver spoon, a cup, piggy bank, etc. These are some things I didn't get, but wish I had.

what to get my parents for their anniversary?

Q. It's my parents 26th wedding anniversary on June 27. I have idea what to get them. I have 2 sisters and one is married so we usually all go in on something. We like to spend 30 - 50$ a piece. For fathers day we got him a gc to go golfing and my mom will go with him. We've gotten them gc to go out to eat and they never use them. What do you think? any ideas?

Answer
A photo of them on their wedding day with a picture of them now. A photo album. If they don't use the gift cards stop buying them for them instead write them a letter or a poem and frame it for them- tell them how special they are.
Make them a video of old times.
How about just a simple quite candlelit dinner at home that you can do for them.
If you all your sister get together maybe you can get your mother a birthstone ring with all your stones on them and buy your father a new golf bag with there names on it and the wedding date.
Make them a CD of old romantic songs. Find out what the song was for their first dance. Make a label for the CD.
Chech out the website below ofr other ideas to buy.
Good Luck and Happy Anniversary to your parents

What do people do at a Christening? Is it a regular church ceremony with baptism involved, or different?

I am a babysitter of a 6 month old baby who is having her Christening this weekend. What should I wear? and what happens at a Christening? Does it only contain people the family invited, or does everyone in the church attend? I really know NOTHING about it other than the fact I need to bring a gift. Do you bring the gift in the church or what? If you know ANY detailed info on this..please let me know! Thank you!

Answer
Dressy casual.
The infant is dedicated to Christ. The ceremony may be different from denomination to denomination; google the denomination and read about the ceremony of baptism.
Everyone is invited. It is a public ceremony.
Bring the gift to the ceremony.

What is a good christening gift for a close friends daughter?

Shelley

I don't know of any kinds of gifts for this occasion or how much to spend on a close friends daughter. Thank you!!!

Answer
It's traditional to give gifts that increase in value over time (precious metals, savings bonds, etc) or religious gifts.

Modern times have added personalized gifts which are very appropriate for christenings. Blankets or bibs with the baby's name would be excellent gifts.

How much to spend is more a function of what funds you have available than anything else. An inexpensive gift idea would be a book (see source for one idea). A more expensive gift would be a silver cup/ spoon or stock certificates.

I was in walmart yesterday and saw so many useless baby items that i'm sure people just love to buy (boogie wipes). Just wondering how creative moms come up with more budget friendly solutions.

Answer
Changing table: I simply carried a washable changing pad in my diaper bag, and changed Sophie on our bed, the couch, living room rug, etc.

Wipe warmer: Before I switched to cloth diapers, I noticed that I could easily warm cold wipes by sticking them on my bra for a minute! LOL! Nice warm boobies. :)

Bulb syringe: Not pricey or anything, but I swear it never worked!! I noticed if I took Sophie in the shower and let the warm water run on top of her head for a moment she would breathe a bit in. It would soften her boogers and they'd begin to slide out! I'd help them by putting my pinky nail in her nostril and pulling them out. SO gross I know, but hey it worked!

Peepee teepee and the like: I don't have a boy (maybe this time!! Hee hee), but I notice you can avoid being peed on by laying a baby washcloth on his penis until the fresh diaper is on.

The no-scratch mittens: If you MUST, just use the baby socks. I never did either, just bit her nails down quickly since they were so thin and easy to break still.

Baby laundry soap: Very pricey, and quite silly. Just buy any additive-free detergent.

Diaper pail: Never needed one. Just put the poopy diapers in plastic grocery bags and tossed in the large outdoor trash can. If you really want one, I'd make sure it's the type that allows you to use those grocery bags, and not their "special" (read: expensive) refill bags!

Infant shoes: Can you say silly? Nothing is as cute as baby toes. :) And if it's cold, some darling little socks as well. I think shoes at that age are a big waste of money...

**Julie, I have to agree on the hooded towels, with one exception. My mom makes them for gifts. She gets a full-size quality bath towel in a fun color, with a matching washcloth, then sews the washcloth on as the hood. Then she adds rickrack on the borders of the hood and towel, and a cute applique. It's ADORABLE! My daughter has a deep purple one with pale pink rick rack and a cute cow applique on the hood. :) It's so soft, and just huge.

What would be a good creative gift for my mother who is a new grandmother?

So I want a creative, sentimental gift for my mom, I recently just had a daughter, and I would like to do something that includes both the baby and I. Maybe pictures or something, i don't know. But I want something that will mean a lot, any helpful ideas?

Answer
How about a "Grandma's Bag" tote bag? Tuck in a nice book of Mother Goose or bedtime stories, some sort of nice small blanket or quilt, a soft doll, and a rattle. You could add an umbrella, too, if you live in a rainy area -- something with ducks on it would be cute. You might even consider adding one of the toys that your mother gave you years ago that you particularly loved. And for Grandma personally, how about a locket with a photo of you on one side and the baby on the other?

What are good Christmas gifts for my nieces?

gift for baby nephew on Harley Davidson Rocker Baby Gifts

Miki

They are three and will be four in March and May. The gifts also need to be the same to prevent fighting.

PS: Should I get my baby nephew a gift too and if so then what? He will be 1 in March but he was premature and due in May.

Answer
I would get HABA dolls for the nieces. They are very cute, colorful and great for imaginative play. Toddlers as early as 18 mo can already play with them but my 5 year old and 6 year old girlfriend still like to play with them a lot! Also, for their birthday or next Christmas you could get more HABA doll accessories for your nieces. They have various models in different sizes so I'd get 2 models of the same size, then your nieces can pretend the dolls are girlfriends. More on HABA dolls and pictures here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/soft-doll.html
The prices are around 20-30 $.

As for the nephew I would get him something, too. Even if he is still small and cannot remember, you should get him a little something. How about a Christmas play set from GUND? These are really cute and for 6 mo and up. More details here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/Gund-baby-toys.html

In general this website gives good tips and has great gift ideas for babies and toddlers. They do not sell anything but just want to give advise. So maybe just browse there and get some more ideas.

Good luck!

My nephew shows possible signs of autism, my sister seems to be in denial. How do I confront her?

Q. My baby nephew a little over a year old, but he very seldom talks, and prefers to be alone most of the time. His reactions aren't the same as most children, but he is a genuinely beautiful baby boy. I do notice he is into detail when arranging toy blocks and stuff. He also seems to be very gifted with memory. I think he could possibly be savant, but how do I confront my sister on this without hurting her feelings? I feel that he at least deserves an early diagnosis, to get started on some form of therapy already. Somebody please offer advice on how I can approach this sensitive subject with her?

Answer
Make her aware of the abilities that her son possesses, like you said about arranging the blocks and toys. She could get him tested to see if he is gifted, and maybe it will uncover any learning difficulties as well. You should get her to do something soon though. My nephew was the same as this, and he is 4 now. He can hardly speak and can't put a sentence together. He is not social with other children and can be violent if he doesn't get his way. It gets worse if it's not picked up on early. If you hurt your sisters feelings a bit in the short term, it will end up helping her in the long term. Good luck, I hope it works out ok for you, your sister and your nephew.

Whats a really good first pregnancy baby shower gift?

gift for baby girl 3 years image

Sorted Det

My cousin is having a baby girl! This is her first pregnancy, and she's fairly young, 21-23 years old. The pregnancy wasn't planned so I know there is going to be A LOT of things she'll need!

I was wondering if any mom's out there could help me out with the shower gift? I'm totally broke, but I'm sure I can scrounge up 40$ or so!

I live in another state and I want something that wont cost and arm and a leg to send.

<3<3<3 the help!

Answer
Does she have a name picked out? If so, how about a cute, personalized sign for the nursery that accents the décor? Personalized gifts are the most "unique" of all, and they are always treasured. They have cool ones under "Personalized Art" at: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/ The artist is a mom. I have two for my twins: "Safari Adventures" for Brayden and "Express Train" for Bryan. The smaller one is in your price range, and the they will ship directly for you. Done!

How can you get cigarette smoke out of a new coat without washing it?

Victoria

Is it possible to make a brand new baby's snowsuit smell fresh again after it has been exposed to cigarette smoke in a heavy smoker's house? Earlier this summer I got a deal on baby clothes. My niece had just had a baby boy in July. A few years ago, I had been laid off for a while and didn't have extra money to buy my son Christmas presents. My church helped us out and we were so grateful. Besides something small my mother gave him, those were the only gifts he got that year. When I saw all these beautiful marked down clothes, I bought extra girl's clothes thinking that I could make some family's Christmas this year just like someone for us a few years ago.

One of the items I got was a snowsuit. This is a beautiful snowsuit that is rated to keep a baby warm in temperatures as low as minus 15. I haven't seen my niece in about 3 years, and have never seen either her two year old daughter or her newborn son, even though she lives only about 20 miles away from me.

I stopped by my sister-in-law's house last week to deliver the presents I bought for the new baby. I didn't go into the house because all the clothes were together in a bag, and I wanted to keep the clothes I was going to donate smelling nice. When I gave my sister-in-law the boys clothes for her daughter, she saw the snowsuit. She said that my niece wouldn't care that it was for a girl. It wasn't really that frilly. I was reluctant to leave it for her daughter's approval because my sister-in-law, her younger daughter and her husband are heavy smokers and things that go into their house, even casually, come out smelling awful. She seemed so excited about the snowsuit, though, I let her keep it for her daughter's approval.

I talked to her today and her daughter doesn't want it. The snowsuit is red, yellow and blue, sort of Russian-looking with flowers and firebirds. Because of the flowers, my niece thinks it's too girly. I would like to donate it to the church as I had originally intended, but I know that after spending a week in their house it has gone from being a nice gift to a stinking mess.

Is there anyway I can make this snowsuit smell nice enough for a baby again? I don't want to wash it, because then it wouldn't be new anymore. I would like this beautiful snowsuit to keep some child warm this winter, and I would like it to be a nice gift. Any advice you can give will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
T.B. I'll try that as soon as I pick it up. I'll pick some up on the way. You've jump-started my brain. If Fabreez doesn't work, maybe Dry-el will. Thanks.
Nowadays, boys' clothes and girls' clothes are substantially different. When I was a baby in the 1950s any baby would have worn that suit. My snowsuit was blue with a teddy bear on it. It would be considered a "boys" suit now. My dad was born in 1919 and wore dresses when he was a baby. I didn't really plan on giving it to my niece, but I was happy to help because her mother said she needed one. My son would have worn that suit. Little babies don't care if the motif on their suit is "teddy" flavor or "birdie" flavor. They are just happy to be warm.
Thanks to everyone for some very good ideas. I think I'll try leaving it outside first, then Fabreze and outside again. If all else fails I'll try Dryel. I wouldn't have thought of the Dryel without your suggestions of Fabreze. Smoke odor can stay in an item for months. When I was a girl, the woman who sewed my school uniforms was a heavy smoker. Sometimes my mother would get my uniforms in June, and the smoke odor would still be there in September. I feel more confident now that I can get of the smoke odor out of the snowsuit if I use some updated methods along with the tried and true method of airing it in the fresh breeze. Thank you so much.

Answer
I vote for a combination of two previous answers! First, hang the snowsuit outside. Hang it outside for several days. Bring it in at night so it doesn't get wet with dew. When you bring it in, spray it with Fabreez. (My favorite is the "Clean Linen" scent.) Hang it outside the next day. It would be best to hang it in the shade so the sun doesn't fade it. After 3 days of hanging it outside and spraying it with Fabreez when you bring it in for the night, I would think the smoke smell would be gone.

You are such a sweetheart to want to give the snowsuit to someone who really needs it!

Your 'Additional Details' reminded me of when my two were little. I had a girl and then a boy, born 13 months apart. Money was tight back then! My daughter had a fuzzy pink coat that she received as a birthday gift when she turned one. When she outgrew it, I put it on my son. He wore "The Pink Coat" until he outgrew it! Now he is 39, tall, strong, and very good looking -- but he has a kind and gentle side. Whenever someone comments on what a nice guy he is, he always says, "It is because I wore 'The Pink Coat'!"

Let's keep those babies warm!

What does it cost to have and care for a baby in the first few years?

gift for baby death on ... than 5,000 on presents for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West 's baby
gift for baby death image

Matthew H

My wife and I are thinking of having a baby, but the cost of it scares me. What is the cost in the first few years. We sould likely need daycare 3 days a week.

Answer
day care alone is gonna cost you about $500 a month, diapers (i buy pampers) are about $20 a week and not to mention if you have to buy forumula. I would say assuming you get everything you need for the baby from gifts and family members (which never happens) you would need an extra 800-$1000 a month for daycare and baby essentials. Dont let the number scare you to death. Babies are worth it. Good luck

Is it rude to request gift cards for party?

Roberta Q

I am going to have a birthday party for my 2 year old son and I am going to do like a combo of that and a Jack and Jill baby shower. Being I already have my son and he is only 2 and I am going to be having another boy I already have the majority of the things I need. The only things I need are the every expensive things. I am thinking about asking for gift cards for the baby shower to use towards the expensive things I need. Is that rude or is there a correct way to word it so it wont sound rude?

Answer
First of all, no one should ever give themself a shower! This is even worse than asking for money or gift cards. And a birthday party for a 2 year old should only include very close relatives. You may be thrilled to death with your kid, but not everyone else is.

Sorry, but you are stretching every rule of etiquette with this.

Gender reveal more acceptable for 2nd baby?

gift for baby gender reveal on Baby Gender Reveal Party T-Shirts, Baby Gender Reveal Party Gifts ...
gift for baby gender reveal image

Coming Soo

I am expecting number two and Id like to celebrate this baby as well. I understand that second baby showers are tacky. I don't want gifts or or implication of gifts. I also think a gender reveal would be fun for us as well alittlsuspense. What do you think? And a meet and greet may not be somethingwe ca

Answer
In this day and age, a second baby shower is perfectly acceptable - though some hardcore snobs will disagree, but a gender reveal is a much better option if it fits in better with /your/ social group, and your lifestyle.

I'd go for it, and if you genuinely do not want gifts, simply include on the invitation a subtle deterrent such as "Your presence is all that we need."

Best of Luck, and congrats on your second child :)

Why do men complain about paying child support but when they have?

Summer Sun

another mistress they don't complain.. its still money you have to use on another woman to bring her out to dinner and buy her gifts in order for her to give up her snatch.
i guess having putang is more important then their child.
no one wants to pay but they love to have kids.. nice!!
zip up the zipper you dart heads.

Answer
They complain because their choices have been stripped away... Consider the following:

A woman lies and says she's on the pill, she gets pregnant. The father, who never wanted kids, is now on the hook for 21 years of support OR he can quietly go to jail and loose his job, car, and home. Many, many men are unwitted into fatherhood they never wanted by fraud.

A woman can pull a used condom out of the trash and impregnant herself with the sperm of a man she has NEVER even slept with. Fair to men? KEEP ALL your sperm to yourself JUST to be sure??

In some states the father de-facto - a woman's husband - is required to support a child for 21 years if they were married when the child was conceived/born, EVEN if it's proven in court that the child is not biologically his. 21 years of support for a child that's not yours, you never wanted, and was created via cheating?

A woman has a choice NOT to become pregnant - there's the pill, the female condom, IUDs, permanent and temporary sterlization. AND, once she becomes pregnant she can have an abortion. After the child is born, the woman can choose to NEVER reveal the father and put the child up for adoption herself - never having had the father's consent - he has ZERO say. Also a woman can abandon a child at a "safe baby" location and walk away - no questions asked, no papers to sign.

HOWEVER, a man has ZERO choice once the egg is fertilized. Women have choices up and down the line from prevention, to abortion, to adoption, to abandonment and are ALLOWED by law to have the final say at every single turn - even if her final say is that the man has to pay her for 21 years.

This is the farthest thing from gender equality that I can think of. Any woman who enters the child support system is saying "I have chose to bring a child into the world that I cannot possibly care for myself. Instead of making better decisions, I'm going to drag the attorney general, the welfare office, the guy's nuts, and the kitchen sink into this matter and have THEM solve my problem."

This is not true independence and womanhood.

what do you get your wife for your 10-year anniversary when you've been separated for 7 months?

My wife and I have been separated for the past 7 months, but we are taking baby steps towards getting back together. We are celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary next weekend and I am clueless as to what I should get her. I obviously don't want to go overboard, just something nice. Any ideas?

Answer
What about just going out for a nice dinner and talking about some of the things that need to happen to get you two back on track...no actual gift required...

When in a pregnancy should you have a baby shower? And what should you ask for?

Brooklynn

Im 7 months pregnant.
My baby already has more outfits then he could even wear, but everyone wants to get him that. How do I ask for things other than clothes? Did you have this problem?
Whats appropriate to ask for?
I could use diapers, but people find that a boring gift to give.
Is it normal to want to throw your own shower?
What was your shower like, what did your baby get?
Fun games/activities/recipes?

Answer
I had my baby shower at 35 weeks pregnant, I didn't organize my own or ask for anything. My mum organized everything with my sister, I got a lot of clothes, photos frames, toys and baby bathing things. I also got from all of my work mates a huge baby bath filled with everything from bottles to socks.
I know that some Mothers will do a register at a baby store so that their guests can pay a small amount on the bigger items that the Mothers may need. I personally would not be offended at all if I received a baby shower invite with a baby registry.
I definitely suggest asking one of your close friends, mother, mother in law, sister etc to throw the shower for you but you can have a say in the things.
The games we played at my shower were things like guess whats in the baby diaper using different chocolates, guess how big the Mums tummy is, who can change the diaper on a doll the quickest. There are some websites that have a lot of games for baby showers on them.
