What is the traditional baby gift for a Korean's first birthday?

Viking

Answer
my father in-law always give gold as a gift. it can be a ring or a necklace. and according to him... people from old days used to do that.

perhaps it's traditional. but as years passes. people become practical that they give money instead, which can be more helpful & easy to use. in addition to that korean people are getting more & more busy these days that they don't & won't find time to go shopping mall to buy gift... so they just give money & put them in an envelope like what my husband & i normally do.

What is an appropriate gift for a traditional Korean baby girls first birthday?

The parents are close friends.

Answer
Anything will do. At that age they usually like the boxes best anyway.

I am going to a baby dedication this weekend. Is it traditional to take a gift?

ayozen_dc

The dedication ceremony will be at church this Sunday. I would like to know if I need to take a gift and if so, which types of gifts are typical for Dedication Ceremonies.

Answer
I have never even heard of a baby dedication. If it is anything like a Christening (in Christian religions), then yes, it would be polite to bring a small gift.

Answer
I would say if you bought a gift when the baby was born, no gift is needed. The parents just want you to there. However, if there is some kind if reception after wards, it might not hurt to have a card ready just in case.

I need suggestions for a gift for a baby shower hostess.?

GXSRgal87

My cousin is throwing a baby shower for me and I am so grateful for her. Unfortunately, I can't think of a good thank you gift for her. Any suggestions?

Gift Certificate to a day spa.

Gift Basket filled with Candles, Scented soaps, Flowers, Candy, Bath items, Lotions, Fruit, Wine, cheese, and crackers, Gourmet chocolates, Small inexpensive gifts, such as photo albums, picture frames, etc.

Jewelry-Charm bracelets, whimsical pins, hand painted earrings, or bangle bracelets. Or what ever she's been eying,

My baby shower was a surprise one so I wasn't prepared. My friend got her hostesses(her mom and sister) a nice photo frame with a sonogram pic and a promise to always send pictures of the baby.

Gifts for mom... i need helpp?

jenna

im a teenager that needs a GOOD gift idea for my mom. My budget is $50 but if its bigger, my sister will pay 50 and i will too.She likes cooking, but already has all the pots and pans you can imagine. she doesnt like homemade crafts or cheap jewelry.
this is hard!

Answer
Moms LOVE thoughtful gifts....
Get her a gift certificate for a facial, massage, or a manicure (something to relieve stress). Then....
make her a coupon book. Make the coupons for things you know your mom will enjoy like...
1. Good for lunch prepared by me for you
2. Good for cleaning up the dishes after dinner ect.
My kids did this last year for my b-day I redeemed them as I needed to. My favorite was "movies with me" ( they told me to pick a movie then rented it, popped me popcorn and had soda) just spent some time with me and I didn't have to play host.
Really all moms want is to spend a little time with our kids, have them be a little generous once in awhile and to know they love us.

Thanks everybody..this really helps

Answer
Make a little gift basket for her. Like include some of these things:

Dunkin' Donuts gift card (for $10-20)

A new handbag ($20-30)

Fragrant candles like Yankee Candle ($7-15)

Spa Gift Card ($20-35)

Gift cards to stores like Bed & Bath Body Works, A candle store, clothes store, or gift card from the mall, so she can purchase anything, anywhere in that mall.

A fluffy new robe

Slippers

Nice smelling lotion/cream (Like roses or mango. I got one for Christmas, and it was Hot Chocolate scented!)

A "mom" type of movie. Whatever your mom likes to watch best, whether it is Adventure or Romance! (Let me know, and I will write some good movies for that catogory!)

Something you made, like a braclet or neaklace, or knit or crochet something.

Earings

Rings

A subscription to her favorite magazine.

YOU R NOT TOO YOUNG TO MAKE HER A COUPON BOOK. MOMS ALWAYS APPRICIATE THE IDEAS IN THEM. I THINK IT IS A GREAT IDEA!

Make her a "coupon book". I used to make them ALL the time when I was younger. Type up some things you could do for her. Like "I will do one chore you ask me to do" or "I will take you someplace" or something like that.

Well, that's it for now. GOOD LUCK!!!

EDIT: And the cashmere sweater sounds like a good idea.:):):)

What size diaper should the average 3 month old baby boy wear? Need to get a surprise gift...?

AN

Answer
my daughter wore size 1 until she was 4.5 months old, but people always say she's tiny. babies should double birth weight by 6 months (not 3 months as the above poster said) and triple by 1 year.

What is a great Christmas gift for a 5 month old boy.?

kd420

I have a five month old son and my wife and I really do not know what to get him. He is our first baby and we do not know what to do. Thanks for your help!!

Answer
Honestly, he has no clue about the holidays. My husband and I got each other something nice, because in the years to come, it will only be about the kids (which is a good thing!) But, we dont get each other a gift anymore, we agree to focus on the kids instead. Unless you have a lot of $$ I wouldnt even bother honestly. If you must, then get stuff he needs like clothing.

What's a good gift to give a couple expecting a baby?

Q. My friends are a couple that are expecting in a month . Their probably won't be an actual baby shower, and that's more for the female friends anyway. However I did want to get the two of them something they can enjoy together wither before or after the baby arrives. My thought was a gift card to a nice restaurant so they can relax after taking care of the baby so much. Keep in mind I wanted to get them an adult gift and not baby supplies. Any other ideas?

Answer
It's tough to go out to a restaurant with a new baby in the family. It's going to be a while before they can really use it to it's full advantage.
A suggestion along the same lines.....you could "cater" dinner for them one night.
Arrange for food, beverages and a DVD and that way they can eat when they are able and can watch the DVD as time permits.
Very nice that you want to think of Mom and Dad during this busy time in their life. (make sure to tuck a little something for baby in whatever you do)

Is a gender neutral baby gift appropriate as a Christmas gift for a couple expecting their third child?

Q. My boyfriend's friend and his wife are expecting their third child. They already have two boys ages three and one. I thought since they are being so kind to let me stay with them and my boyfriend for three weeks, I'd get them something for Christmas.

I don't know the gender of the baby, so would a gender neutral baby gift be appropriate for their Christmas gift?
I have no idea what that will be. Suggestions are appreciated!

Answer
Of course! I'd be terrible to give them something feminine when it turns out to be a boy!

Oh, I guess you mean to get them "a baby gift?" :) Yes, I'm sure the parents would love it. What woman DOESN'T like getting baby things(especially a pregnant woman)? Plus, I'm sure it will be very useful to them as well.

I'd be interested to know what you were getting them(not that it matters too much I guess).

ETA: clothes, bottles, pacifiers, blankets, booties, rattles, teddy bears, bibs, new born mittens, onesies(sp?), etc. What all I suggested in my other answer. I wasn't sure if you knew what a diaper cake was. I didn't ever see one myself until about a year ago. It's a shame you couldn't bring that.

Or, you could get something little for the 2 little kids? Something distinctly American and/or of the state you're living in. Maybe a Christmas ornament - "for the ..... Family" or "Merry Christmas from Montana" or wherever it is you're from. Just an idea...

question about the amount of Christmas gifts you buy per child...?

moi

I think I always go way overboard on christmas presents and I'm just curious how many presents most people buy per child for christmas and how much money they spend on their children total for christmas...
I have 4 girls who will be ages 5,10,13,and almost 15 by next Christmas and I will also have a new born baby (due sept 24. 2008)....if that helps to answer this question any...
I'm just curious to see what others spend and think....
make sure you tell me how many gifts per child you usually get....since that's what I want to know the most...
thank you...

Answer
I have one child and I would get him one big gift with 4 or 5 small gifts.I think it should have alot to do with what u can afford. It's Xmas and once a year u spoil your children as much as u can afford.Mine is 19 now so I give him money. He is a well adjusted kid that works and goes to school.

exersaucer (not a walker!!!!)
onsies
sleepers (footie pjs)
tearless shampoo
baby water bottle (a milder version of hot water bottle/heating pad, sometimes good to use for colicy babies)

Infant Mylecon (great for gassy babies)
Baby Orajel
baby monitors
Baby Book (if you don't have one already)
I forget what this is called... kind of an impression kit. you use it to make imprints of your baby's hand and feet. I got four of those, lol.
Dreft... this stuff is pretty expensive, but one bottle goes a long way. Baby clothes are only supposed to be washed in hypoallergenic detergent like Dreft or All Baby

Great Gifts for my mom?

Yemeni92

My mom has been down lately (my grandfather from her side acts like he doesn't care about us anymore and blames her for his problems) since we are currently living in his house she is worried that he might kick us out and leave us out on the street.

Being Muslims we celebrate Eid and it happens to be coming up on December 8th i need some great gifts that could cheer her up. I need more options than just Jewelry Thanks to those who can help

Answer
Things from the heart are the best. Hallmark is great for things that give moms just what they are looking for. If you don't have much in you budget just make something. Get a frame from the dollar store and type up a paragraph for her with some memories from your childhood or a funny story that'll make her laugh.

You can center the story or poem and paste little pictures of you as a kid all around it. It gets em everytime because you made it and honestly its what parents live for, our kids.

Baby & Mom Gifts?

Q. My best friend is having a baby in October and I was wondering what would be some good ideas on what I should get her. I want to get her stuff for the baby and stuff for her and her hubby. I live in Arkansas and she lives in California so I will need to be able to ship it. Thanks for your ideas.

Answer
What about the necessities.....I am a mom to be and would love to get clothes (even ones that are not neccisarly for a newborn but maybe for when the baby is 12 months or so). Also a mom can never have to many diapers(for when the baby is a little older like 6-9 months, yearl old or so). Mabye get some of these with baby lotion, baby shampoo, and put them in a little basket for her.

A question about registering for gifts for baby showers?

Q. How many places should I register? What type of things does one register for? How many items should I register for? Do I register for the bigger price items too? When I had my first baby 7 years ago, I was a older teen mom and I did it all on my own with either hand me downs or garage sale stuff. Now that I am having one the right way (being married and all that jazz), my family and friends are having a shower and suggesting that I register. My family says one thing, but I thinking another. Please help settle the debate.... THANKS!

My mom's getting married. My grandparents are being finicky about etiquette.?

Viki

Obviously, it's a second marriage - the first ended in disaster and there is no longer any contact at all with the first husband, so he's not an issue.

My mom is really happy (and I'm really happy for her), she's found a great guy who loves her and helps her and is all around just a really great person and incredible match for her. Her parents act like they're happy for her, but they are strongly discouraging my mom from sending wedding invitations to her relatives. They are saying that it would be inappropriate to send invitations, since it's a second wedding. They want to attend, they just don't want invites sent out to all the relatives. I'm not sure why they would think this or what is an appropriate response. My mom thought that it would be inappropriate to exclude anyone by not sending an invitation, and that people could obviously decline attending if they so chose. But my grandparents remain adamant that it would be highly inappropriate (they keep using that word) to send invitations, and that the closest appropriate option would be to send a quiet announcement (preferably not even a printed one, rather a word-of-mouth announcement for them to spread) after the marriage has taken place. I am appalled at that option. Any ideas? Is there actually some piece of etiquette that says you can't invite relatives to second weddings? If so, wouldn't that be highly antiquated in today's society?
Yeah, that's what I thought... and no, she's not having a big white wedding, it'll be pretty toned down, but a wedding none the less. She wanted a pink dress at her first wedding, but her parents wouldn't hear of it back then... she's going for the pink dress this time (it's a light pearly pink, it's actually a bridesmaids dress) with a small veil trimmed with pink edging. I think it's perfect. I am rather indignant at my grandparents' attitude... as I suppose you can tell.

Answer
I don't know how old your grandparents are; likely in their 60's-70's, I should think. Anyway, in their generation, re-marriage after divorce was considered to be somewhat scandalous, and it was unthinkable, inappropriate, for someone whose first marriage had ended in divorce to have a big, whoop-di-doo second wedding. A small ceremony with only the most immediate family members in attendance, and the bride wearing somewhat upscale every-day attire was considered appropriate.

Your grandparents may also be somewhat concerned that your mother's invitations may be perceived as a "gimme-grab" solicitation for gifts. There's somewhat of a sentiment that if either member of the couple to be married has previously had a wedding with all the trimmings and received wedding gifts from family members at the first wedding they had, it's not fair to "dun" family invitees for a gift the second time around. I would go so far as to say that your mom should de-emphasize the gift-giving aspect of her wedding, and not have a registry or otherwise indicate an expectation of gifts. If any of the relatives invited to the second wedding gave particularly lavish gifts for the first wedding, or have indicated any distaste for giving gifts the second time around, I'd go so far as to suggest that the bride's parents let these invitees know that your mom only wants the gift of their presence at her wedding and their good wishes to her are gift enough.

I'm with others that as long as your mom uses common sense and good taste in planning her wedding, she's to be congratulated for finding love "the second time around." Good luck to her and I hope she has a fabulous wedding.

How to afford all these gifts? Parties? Graduations? Weddings? Baby showers? Arrgghh!?

Q. I have a VERY tight budget.(I am single & live alone, no kids). I have very little left over for even food after I pay all my bills. I keep getting invited to graduation parties, bridal showers, weddings, birthday parties, baby showers etc....its getting ridiculous all the money I am giving out. Just for graduations alone, I have 6 parties this spring! Where do I draw the line? How to afford all these gifts?

Answer
LMAO @ Candy - get a 2nd job to pay for gifts?? Are you crazy?

I feel your pain and I know what it's like, as I have a very big family. Somebody is always getting married, having a baby, a shower, a graduation, a christening, etc.! What I do is shop all year long for gifts. I scour the discount and clearance areas in my local stores for generic items like silver photo frames, sets of baskets and towels, pretty candles, stationary, etc. I have bought many, many gifts for under $5 by shopping the clearance tables! Lest you think the gifts are cheap and tacky - they're not! I've gotten things that were over $50 originally for $15, etc. Nobody has to know you got them super-discounted. PLUS, if you have a "store card" like at Kohl's, etc., you can get even more money off. Just keep your eye out when you go into stores and start stockpiling gifts to be given at a later time.

2 part question: Birthday gift from baby girl to Daddy?

Q. My girl is 3 months old now and her Daddy's birthday is February 8. I have been trying to think of a gift from her to him...so do any mommies who have done this have any cute ideas?

Also, I wanted to put her little handprint in his card, are ink pads you can buy safe for this use?

Answer
A lot of the ink pads in craft stores are safe for kids to use- for her hand print. As for the present, is there something her daddy needs? something you think he'd like but you're not 100% sure? My mom found a tie she liked wasn't sure my dad would or not, but he needed some ties, so she said it was a present from Ashley when she was an infant and he wears that tie to this day.

Xmas tree gift for sgl mom and babys first?

Q. Need a tree decor idea or even a present can be from myself or even from the baby to mommy.

Fionce left her after getting pregnant and the baby single-handedly saved her life(literally) and for that i call the baby, her angel.

Its the babys first xmas and mommys first as a mother who is doing a remarkable job considering her obstacles.

I need some sort of gift ideas for either the tree or a gift i can hide and act like its from the baby to mommy...the more tears and happier i can get her the better.

Please help ! Lol

Btw, baby girl is 9mo

Answer
Concerning a tree ornament, Hallmark have every year a special 'baby's first Christmas' ornament where you can insert baby's photo. You can even make an ornament yourself by decorating a small picture frame.
Or take a Christmas bauble and print baby's hand- or footprint on it and write 'baby's 1st Xmas 2012' on it, too.
There are also Christmas baubles where you can insert baby's photo or DIY snow globes.
Then you could make a magic cup with baby's photo (wearing an Xmas hat or a bib saying 'baby's 1st Xmas) for the mommy. The magic about the cup is that the photo only appears when you pour a hot beverage in it!
Or paint a white tee for her / have it printed saying 'Greatest mom in the world' - and again you can make hand- and / or footprints of baby on it, too.
You can find all these ideas and even more and also some instructions at the website giving great tips for 'gifts from baby':
http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/gifts-from-baby.html

Also check out their ideas for new mommy gifts, maybe you can get some ideas there, too.

Hope my tips helped and wish you a Merry Xmas - it's great that you care about that lady and her little one!

Should I send a xmas gift or a baby shower gift for my unborn god baby?

Victoria G

I am going to be the godmother of my bestfriends first baby. She isnt due till march 22nd but I'm not sure if it would be weird if I sent a gift for the baby for christmas since it wont be born yet. Should I just wait till the baby shower or go ahead and send one for xmas and the baby shower? What would you do? I am sooooo excited so maybe that is why I want to send gifts already LOL! Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
If you would like to send a gift to both baby and mother, send a book that Mom can read to the baby before she's born, or send a music CD that Mom can play for the baby. Mozart is very popular. These gifts will benefit both mother and baby and promote prenatal bonding!

Gift Ideas for New House & 2nd Baby on the Way?

Q. I'm not great with gift-giving; I tend to mull over the 'perfect gift' for far too long. My friend and her husband recently moved into their new home, and she just found out she's expecting her second child. We're out of state, so my husband and I wanted to send them something, but we're not sure what. I realize personalized gifts are the way to go, and that you all don't know them, but any general ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Gift certificates, big ones are the most fun. If they are handy, maybe Home Depot. Or if not, maybe Bed, Bath and Beyond. Think of the things they might for the home and use that as a guide. Gift certificates are good, because they can satisfy their needs in their own style and taste.

CHEAP new baby gift ideas?

Q. So my teacher is having a baby in May. I REALLY want to get her a gift, she's one of my favorite teachers. She isn't finding out if it is a girl or a boy though. I love shopping for baby clothes, but I'm sure she'll get enough of that :) I have a really small budget, like $15 all together. And I don't just want to get one thing. I was thinking of going to the Dollar Tree & getting a basket of like blankets, some little books, some pacifiers, bottle brushes, a little bath toy, & a few other little things. Do you think this would be OK or should I not go to the dollar store? Is that TOO cheap? I don't want to look like the cheap student who doesn't have $$ (even though that is what I am) LOL I just want to get her a good gift. Any recommendations? Should I maybe just get an outfit or 2 on clearance at walmart or target? :)

For a budget of 15 $ you can make your teacher a nice baby gift basket or also a diaper cake. She'll surely appreciate something handmade!
See how to make a diaper cake here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/how-to-make-diaper-cakes.html. You can add the decorations according to your budget.
Low-cost additions for a diaper cake or a baby gift basket are items like baby body care, plain burp cloths, bibs, teething toys, rattles, cuddly toys, socks, a baby bath thermometer, onesies, baby booties, a rubber ducky, plastic baby spoons, a super soft baby hairbrush, a sun hat, a cap or soft baby books.
For additional savings use travel sizes of the body care products. Or sometimes trial size packs with various body care products are available at a reduced price. You can even ask for free samples and baby freebies at the chemist or drugstore.
For more tips and tricks and photos of inexpensive baby gift baskets see here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/cheap-baby-gift-basket.html

Since you'll need your gift in a few months only you have enough time to bargain hunt for items at reduced prices. You could also get a baby outfit during the winter sale. Take one for 9 or 6-12 months and it'll be perfect for next year's winter. On the other hand, you seem to like your teacher a lot, so something you made yourself like the diaper cake or basket would be more personal.

Hope my tips help!

Gift for baby and mom..?

My friend just had her baby.. today. I don't have a lot of money, but want to get her and the baby something. I don't want to sound cheap, but I really can't spend more than $20 combined on both of them.
I don't really have anything left of my daughters that I could give her for her baby.
What are some cheap, but cute, gift ideas for mom and baby?

Answer
You could get the new Mom some bubble bath- So, when Dad watches the baby for a little bit she can have a relaxing bath.

You could get the new Baby Picture frame- Maybe something like Baby's 1st year- where you can put pics from each month in it.

Hope this helps.

baby shower gift ideas?

Q. Good evening ladies

Just wondering my baby showers coming up and people are asking my host what i need for baby, she asked if i could make a list... we have all the big things.. any suggestions for smaller things???

Thank you!! and its our first!!

Answer
Extra sheets for the crib and/or bassinet
Thin receiving blankets
Thicker blankets for when it gets cold outside
Burp cloths (we used cloth diapers which are super absorbent and hold up well in the wash)
Diapers, diapers, and more diapers in all sizes (just don't open them all. if one size gets outgrown, you can exchange them for the next size)
Wipes
Throw away changing pads (for when you're away from home and want somewhere clean to lay baby to change his/her diaper)
Diaper rash cream- desitin, balmex, etc
Baby wash, shampoo, lotion
Detergent to wash baby's clothes in- Dreft, Baby All, etc.
Clothing- if you have enough newborn and size 0-3 month clothes, you can specify the next size (we did this at my baby shower and most everyone went along with it)
Swing or bouncy chair (my daugther loved her travel swing the most. it was compact, folded up so it could easily be moved from room to room, had flashing light and played music)
GIFT CARDS!
If you're bottle feeding and have a dishwasher, a nipple and ring basket is essential (like these: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4457086&sourceid=1500000000000003260330&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=4457086)
You'll also need a bottle and nipple brush (like this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11158658)
If you're going to breastfeed, ask for a Boppy pillow, lanolin creme for your nipples, and breast pads. Maybe a gift card to the maternity store to buy a nursing bra.
Things to stock your baby medicine cabinet with- infant tylenol, a thermometer, gas drops (malicon drops worked well for us), antibiotic ointment (it won't be long before baby is mobile and getting ouchies!), orajel or teething tablets, a cold pack
It's always fun to ask each guest to write down their best parenting tip or something interesting that they didn't know until they were a mom.

You can think ahead a few months and ask for things he/she will need in the future like:
baby spoons
bibs
baby dishes
sippy cups
teething rings
rattles and toys to teach hand-eye coordination
high chair

It may be easier if you go to walmart, target, kmart, or babies r us and make a registry. that way everyone knows exactly what you want. you can print it out from your home computer and give a copy to the hostess so she can provide copies for guests who don't have internet access or acess to the specific store.

Newborn Baby Easter Basket Goody Help Needed!?

Q. My sister is having a baby on April 23rd (C-section) and Ive been putting together a Easter Gift Basket for my niece...but I'm a little stuck right now.

I have the basket, lots of baby clothes and goodies, a little stuffed bunny...just cute stuff to fit in the basket.

I bought 6 bigger Easter eggs to put stuff in and I've only gotten 2 filled, one with 2 little pink nail polishes and one with tiny barrettes. What are some good ideas of other baby oriented things to put inside of eggs?! Or even something fun for mom or dad to open...I just can't think of anything!!

Answer
Because the baby is going to be just born, I wouldnt give too many little things unless they are for the parents, because the baby wont be able to play with any so small for several months.

Maybe instead of using all the eggs put some diapers in the basket, or a nice picture frame. Or if you really want to use the eggs maybe put a gift card to a baby store in one of them, or you could get your sister a cute "mom" necklace, they have some very cute inexpensive ones at walmart and target!

Easter gift???

Outrageous

Ok... I'm going over my boyfriend's parents house for easter. I'm there every Sunday for dinner. Should I get them something for Easter.... like an Easter gift or something?
My boyfriend's sister recently had a daughter. Should I get her baby something?
I am totally clueless. Any help would be highly appreciated :)

Answer
It would be nice if you took a little something, anything, for the baby or the family. It's not expected or required, but since you are going over there to celebrate the holiday with them, it wouldn't hurt to bring something. Maybe a small basket of candy you can all share, and a little stuffed bunny for the babe.

Baby Shower gifts? for father?

Robert

My best buddy that Ive known since junior high - 9 years now - is having a baby. He invited me to his baby shower, I dont know what to get him and his wife. My gf was thinking about getting them a diaper bag and stuff it with items, I wanna get something un-expected, and humorous. Maybe something they will use for a long time, I dont know... no diaper cakes please. Thanks in advance.

Answer
As a mother who had a baby shower, and then a baby... I GREATLY appreciated all the things we were actually going to USE. Such as diapers, diapers, diapers. And clothes too! I didn't so much appreciate receiving newborn sizes as I did sizes 0-3 months because my son was already 8lbs 4oz at birth and barely fit into "newborn".

Also regular baby blankets and receiving blankets were a handy gift that I used OFTEN. And still do. Your girlfriend's idea of a diaper bag stuffed with items is a really good idea!

Baby shower?

Q. My son and his wife are expecting in January and live 8 hours away. I want to do an absentee baby shower then take the gifts to them at the shower they will have in their hometown in a couple months. How should my invitations be worded to not sound tacky. They are unable to come home to do a shower due to not being able to get time off. I want to do something nice for them.

Answer
