List of baby shower games?

Yosukelove

Hi ! [= I'm helping my mom on throwing a baby shower for my older sister.. but I don't know what games to do for the baby shower. Anyone have a good list of ideas?
Please go into detail of your game [= Thank you !

Answer
1) Guess Mom's Tummy Size: (Materials- String or yarn and scissors) Have each woman pull the yarn to the size they believe would fit perfectly around the Mother-To-Be's center of her pregnant tummy. After everyone cuts their string, compare the results to the Mommy-To-Be's actual tummy. Give a prize to the woman who is the most close! This is a baby shower favorite.

2) Never say "Baby": (Materials- baby safety pins or another type of baby object you can place on a string for each woman at the party as well as string or yarn, enough for each woman to wear as a necklace). Have each woman place the necklace with the baby safety pins around her neck when she gets to the party. The rules for this baby shower game are given out at the beginning of the baby shower that whenever someone says the word "baby" during the shower, any woman who calls it out gets a pin from the other woman who stated the word. At the end of the baby shower, the woman with the most pins wins a prize.

3) How Many Baby Items Can You Name: (Materials- pad of paper and pen for each woman). Have each woman write down as many baby products as they can name (bottle, blanket, pacifier, etc) within 5 minutes. Sure it is easy at the beginning, but towards the last few minutes, the women will start racking their brains for more :) Give a prize to the woman who gets the most baby products named!

4) Who Can Make The Mother-To-Be's Baby: (Materials - Baby magazines, Scissors, Glue, Paper). Have the women group up into teams of 3 and give each 3 baby magazines. Have them cut out pieces of different baby qualities and put together a picture of what they think the Mother-To-Be's baby will look like. Have the Mother-To-Be pick which baby would possibly look like hers the best! Give prizes to the winning team! One of the top baby shower games!

5) Pin The Sperm on the Egg - (Materials: Click Here to Order) - Check out this wonderfully funny game called Pin The Sperm on the Egg. Just like the old fashion game of pin the tail on the donkey, this new and exciting version will thrill your friends and family at your next baby shower!

6) Guess How Many Safety Pins: (Materials- Safety Pins and Jar). Pass around a jar full of baby safety pins. The one who guesses the closest wins a baby shower prize. A baby shower game favorite! You can mix it up and use a different baby item that the mommy to be might need like onsies or pacifiers or bottle nipples or breast pads. Just have fun!!

7) Place The Baby On The Mommy: (Materials- Cutouts of a baby with tape and blindfold). Another one of our favorite baby shower games is the baby shower version of Pin The Tail on the Donkey. Blindfold each participant and then give them a paper baby to then approach the mom and place the baby as close to the tummy as possible. The one who gets closest to placing the paper baby on the pregnant tummy wins.

8) Bottle Races: (Materials- Baby bottles with Milk or alternate drink). Have each participant take a bottle filled with a liquid and suck the bottle as a baby would. The woman who drinks the most in an alloted time or finishes first wins the baby shower gift. This baby shower game gets everyone laughing!

10) Baby Bingo: (Materials- Pens, Pre-Printed Bingo cards that use the numbers of how many people attend the baby shower) Prior to opening the baby shower gifts, number each gift on the box starting with one. If you know that 15 people will be attending your shower, pre-print bingo cards with numbers 1 through 15 and randomly place them on 15 cards. When the mommy-to-be's decides to open the presents, she grabs the present she wants to open and reads the number out loud. As soon as someone receives bingo, they win the baby shower game and the baby shower prize.

11) Guess the baby item: (Materials- any baby products and blindfold). A bag of baby items are placed in front of the mother-to-be for her to take one item out at a time blindfolded and tell her baby shower guests what item she has in her hands. This is really fun baby shower game when you choose some crazy baby toys or products.

Fun Baby Shower Games?

Jackie O

I have a awesome buy weird friend and her parents asked me to put together a baby shower.. Her ideal shower is kinda like a BBQ though nothing fancy. Ive never done a baby shower before.
What are some good fun baby shower games?

Answer
Here are some fun games:

Baby Shower Bingo
This is the most popular of baby shower games. I like it because it keeps your guests involved and entertained while the mom-to-be opens her gifts. Sometimes it can take up to an hour or more so having a game to keep guests busy is ideal.

Rules:
Each guest gets a blank baby shower BINGO card. Have them fill in each square with gifts that they think the mom-to-be will receive. The winner is the first person to get 5 across, down, or diagonal. Plan on 6-8 winners depending on the number of people at the baby shower. Small prizes like sample body lotions, lip gloss, candles, etc. make nice prizes.

First to Deliver
This is the most hilarious of baby shower games. Buy some small plastic babies that are tiny enough to fit in an ice cube tray. Put the babies in the tray and cover with juice or soda to freeze the babies into the ice cubes. The babies will float so you might have to freeze them in layers. Pour a small amount of liquid in the tray, let it freeze, and then fill the tray to the top to make a full size ice cube. The baby will then be secure inside of the frozen cube.

Rules:
When all of the guests have arrived, give them each a glass of punch with one ice cube baby in the glass. The first person who âgives birthâ (ice cube melts and baby pops out) gets a prize.

Donât Say Baby
Each guest is given a safety pin or clothespin when they arrive at the baby shower. When the shower starts, announce that the word âbabyâ is taboo and anyone that hears another guest say it, can take that personâs pin. The person with most pins at the end wins! You can choose another word besides baby. Some common words said at baby showers are: cute, adorable, tiny â choose any word that you think would fit your shower best.

Uh-oh Dirty Diaper
Make some small diapers out of white felt. Use pinking sheers to cut the felt for a nice effect. Pin a colored ribbon (blue or pink) to the outside to dress it up and hold it all together. Before pinning them all together, choose one to be a dirty diaper. Use melted chocolate or Dijon mustard for the perfect effect. When guests arrive at the shower, give them each a diaper corsage. Announce near the end of the shower for everyone to check their diaper. The one with the dirty diaper wins! The prize for this baby shower game can be a larger door prize like a gift basket or nice plant.

Birthday Closest to Due Date
This is a great way for the guests to introduce themselves. Go around the room and have each person say their name, how they know the mom-to-be and their birthday. The person with their birthday closest to the babyâs due date wins! Be sure to have a few prizes on hand in case there is more than one guest on or near the due date.

How Big is Mommyâs Tummy?
This game is great if the mom-to-be is a good sport and not too sensitive about her growing belly. Give each person a long piece of string with a sticker label on the end so they can write their name on it. Have them cut the string to the size that they think the mom-to-beâs tummy is around. The person with the closest length wins!

I need ideas for a baby gift?

Lisa A

I need a gift idea for a newborn/the parents.
And good/unique suggestions out there?
For the previous baby, I crocheted a full layette set for them myself. I can't do that again!

Answer
It is hard to find a baby gift that is unique, because most babies need similar items. However, you can always explore ways to personalize the baby gifts to impress the new parents.

What should I give a baby as a gift for confirmation?

For a christening, I recommend a personalized gift, especially something the baby can't outgrow. How about a personalized sign for the nursery? They have nice ones here: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/

Answer
Make a little gift basket for her. Like include some of these things:

Dunkin' Donuts gift card (for $10-20)

A new handbag ($20-30)

Fragrant candles like Yankee Candle ($7-15)

Spa Gift Card ($20-35)

Gift cards to stores like Bed & Bath Body Works, A candle store, clothes store, or gift card from the mall, so she can purchase anything, anywhere in that mall.

A fluffy new robe

Slippers

Nice smelling lotion/cream (Like roses or mango. I got one for Christmas, and it was Hot Chocolate scented!)

A "mom" type of movie. Whatever your mom likes to watch best, whether it is Adventure or Romance! (Let me know, and I will write some good movies for that catogory!)

Something you made, like a braclet or neaklace, or knit or crochet something.

Earings

Rings

A subscription to her favorite magazine.

YOU R NOT TOO YOUNG TO MAKE HER A COUPON BOOK. MOMS ALWAYS APPRICIATE THE IDEAS IN THEM. I THINK IT IS A GREAT IDEA!

Make her a "coupon book". I used to make them ALL the time when I was younger. Type up some things you could do for her. Like "I will do one chore you ask me to do" or "I will take you someplace" or something like that.

Well, that's it for now. GOOD LUCK!!!

EDIT: And the cashmere sweater sounds like a good idea.:):):)

Gift Card Baby Shower?

pumpkinpat

My sister is having her first baby and she lives in Alaska. We want to hold a baby shower for her and she will not be able to attend. Because of the cost to ship things to Alaska we were thinking about doing a gift card baby shower and having people put on the gift card what they would like it to be used on. What are your thoughts and how do I word the invitation?

Answer
The gift cards are a good idea but maybe you could give people a few options. When I was in the Army and had a birthday, holiday or other gift giving event I could not be there for in person, I would think up creative ways to get the gift I wanted to give to the person it was for. One idea was to call a store local to the person and purchase the gift over the phone with a credit card. I did this for my sister once. I called Peir 1 Imports and bought her a papasan chair and stool and I wouldn't tell her what it was. She had to wait until her birthday and go to the store to pick it up. The store agreed not to release it to her until then.

Another idea is mailing a gift card along with a catalogue or clippings of the item you want them to purchase for themself. I did this one year for Christmas presents for my family members.

Also, it's great that you are hosting a shower for your sister but she may be really sad she can't be there for it. Maybe you could have someone video tape all the guests wishing her well and send the tape in a box along with a few party favors, hats, balloons, and other misc things from the shower - sort of a shower in a box. That would be really sweet.

WHatever you do I'm sure your sister will appreciate it. Good for you for being such a great sister! Cheers!

I want to get my mom an amazing Christmas gift?

Q. So it's kind of difficult to know what to get my mom for Christmas because she is one of the people that says I don't have to get her anything and she is not the typical mom. She does not care for jewelry as a gift, or flowers, she does not really care for spa stuff or bath oils or anything like that. She has all the music she wants, millions of pictures of the family and crafts that have accumulated from me and my brother's school years hanging on the wall. So, she is a very family-oriented person at least. I want to get her something more personal than a gift certificate, though.
Thanks everyone! Great answers, I couldn't choose a best answer.

Answer
So she probably likes practical things she can use, and she has to eat. Buy or make her some foods she will like to eat and include a gift certificate for her favourite restaurant.

Or give her your own computer-generated coupons for things she will enjoy or chores she does all the time--perhaps a homemade meal made entirely by you (and your siblings?); a night out while you babysit your brother (if he is younger); maid service for a day (laundry and cleaning provided by you), etc...

If she has a lot of pictures that are all over the place, offer to organize them into albums, scrapbooks, collages, frames, or CD/DVDs; or buy her a digital frame, rotating/carousel frame, or photo album library (I'm not sure if that's what they are called).

Take damaged photos to a photoshop for restorations.

Have prized photos made into something like a totebag, pillow, throw, wallpaper, Christmas ornaments or 2011 calendar. Or visit one of the printing company websites (see below) and create your own photo gifts.

AMAZING Birthday gifts for mom?

Q. This year, my mom will be 48 and I want to get her the most AMAZING and thoughtful gift she's ever had! But I've been looking everywhere and all I see are the usual "give her a spa day, breakfast in bed, a necklace, etc" and I really don't want to so something like that that is somewhat boring to me and that I've done in the past. I've been thinking really hard for gifts but I'm stuck. Her birthday is on the 16th of February so it's coming soon! I'm willing to pay extra money for shipping as well. By the way my mom and I are literally best friends and have the best relationship ever. I want it something personal and meaningful!

Answer
You know what might be nice (being a mom around the same age) - put together a scrap book for her. Start maybe while she was pregnant with you (or you could even go back to her childhood if you have any pictures), and then continue as the years go by.

Add stickers, and other items to personalize it. Especially include special moments with you and your mom.

weight loss in the first weeks after baby?

D.H. (a mo

I just wanted to know what is normal to lose in weight in the first 3 weeks after having a baby. In the past 2 weeks and 2 days. I went from 189 lbs to 157.2 lbs I been eating even though I don't really have an appetite. And I also had a c-section (was on a liquid diet for 36 hrs).
I am down to below what I was before I was pregnant. Cause I was 185 before I got pregnant.
I lost 15 pounds during morning sickness and gained that plus 4 lbs back. Plus I was overweight to begin with. This is the smallest I been since I got out of high school in 2003.

Answer
I had a baby by c-section 6 months ago. When i went in for surgery i was 200 pounds! In the first 2 weeks of recovery, i lost 40 pounds! The weight is mostly water retention. Especially from the IV they give you! When you are pregnant your body makes tons of extra liquids to keep you hydrated. No worries, it may take a while before you get back to your reg, weight before pregnancy. But dont stress it, time will tell! You just look after that gift of god, your baby!! Good Luck :)

Is having a baby face, gift or curse? (pic)?

Q. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa40/christianevo/hihihi.jpg

I don't know if I should get plastic surgery to not have a chipmunk face =/

Answer
GOD. You are gifted! There is no such thing as a curse to have a young looking face. You are just blessed. Calm down and wait for what puberty had saved for you.

Wedding Gift for wife?

Kevin A

What would be a good wedding gift to get for my wife to be? I am getting married next month. Thanks!!

Answer
You could get her a locket with baby pictures of each of you, with your monogrammed married initials on it.
You could get your moms involved and make her a dvd with a picture show on it. Get photos of when you were babies, growing up, etc and have it set either to your song or another song that is romantic. You could send it to her room while she is getting ready with a romantic note.
You could have someone present her with earrings or a monogrammed hankie while she is getting ready.

You could record a video message to her and have yourself present the gift to her, and have someone hand it to her while she watches it.

For fun, you could also get her a t shirt that says Mrs. _. You could wear one that says Mr._ for the honeymoon, along with a romantic gift too.

My husband got me a heart shaped locket with an inscription "This is my heart and it now belongs to you"
I cried forever and ruined my makeup. lol

I am throwing a baby shower for my husbands niece and need some ideas.....?

csize

I am throwing a baby shower for my husbands niece and would like some ideas. We live in the south and it is not going to be fancy but nice. Am I supposed to buy a corsage for the mother to be? Are we supposed to play games and give out party favors like some of the websites I have looked at? I already have my theme picked out and sent out the invites. Any ideas? Thanks! Oh, she is having a boy.

Answer
My mom always buy a corsage for the mom to be. She also buys gifts for the winners of the games, when the games are done, she passes out the remaining gifts to everyone that didn't win one.

Games:
Get a clothes line, some pins, some baby clothes. The person has to be blindfolded and has an alotted time to hang as many clothes as she can...the person with the most clothes at the end of the time wins.

Clothes line, pins. Put about 15-20 pins on the line. The person has to take off the pins with one hand, can not use the other hand at all. As the person is taking the pins off, you have to name baby stuff...the person with the most pins in the one hand wins.

The best one, is for everyone to go around and give the mom to be advice. She picks her favorite.

The funnest one, get some string, and everyone has to guess the size of the mom. They need to cut the string to see who is the closest to the mom-to-be's belly. It's hillarious to see how long and short these peoples measurements are.

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

whats the best gift to get your mom for her birthday?

pyroaman

Answer
For a really unique and different birthday gift, have a look at a personalized Photo Collage Jigsaw Puzzle. Just send a selection of photos and specify any other hobbies or favorites she may have. 15-25 photos usually works best. You can also specify any words that you want - a message of favorite poem. Based on your photos and input, the professional designers will create a unique photo collage layout for your approval before making it into a puzzle. Don't worry, you get a chance to review and approve the photo collage design before they make a puzzle. Once completed, it can be framed and put on the wall as a keepsake of the birthday.

Baby shower/sprinkle for baby #2?

Q. My grandmother finds it distasteful, but I like getting family together to celebrate EVERYTHING and my second baby isn't less important than my first. I want to celebrate it :)

No one really does gifts in my family to begin with so that really wouldn't be an issue.

How should I go about the invitations?

Answer
When did it become distasteful to welcome the coming of a child? If you aren't looking for big gifts then have a "sprinkle".
http://www.creative-baby-shower-ideas.com/baby-sprinkle.html
They have a cute poem here at this website.

If your grandmother feels it's still in bad taste, then let her know you are having a sprinkle and if she doesn't approve then she shouldn't attend.

should someone register for gifts for a baby sprinkle?

Q. i thought it was more simple than a shower--just diapers and such.

confused?
it's usually a baby sprinkle for 2nd babies; baby shower for 1st.

it's more low key.
How did it come about?
Baby showers first came about as a way for friends and family to gather in a celebration to help a new mom prepare for the baby. With a first child, a new mom needs to stock up on lots of baby supplies, including the of big items (the car seat, stroller, high chair, crib, etc.). It used to be that baby showers were only held for the first child.
Why? The parents already purchased the big items the first time around so they don't need as much for the next child. The baby sprinkle started as an idea to celebrate all children, since they are all a gift. It allows for a smaller baby shower, since the mom-to-be would need less this time around.

This is not to say you can't have a "full baby shower" for baby #2 and beyond. If your circumstances require the need for a full baby shower, by all means go for it.

The sprinkle is just a type of baby shower that can be used to help second (and third)time moms. It is in not required by baby shower etiquette to be the o

already thinking about baby number 2....?

Q. So, I just had a baby, and I literally mean JUST had a baby, Saturday. I really miss being pregnant! lol at least parts of it. I miss having people smile at me in the store, and as much as it drove me nuts, I miss having people randomly come up and touch my belly.

I love my son so much, but I'm almost anxious to get pregnant again. I'm planning on waiting at least 2 years, especially sense I got pregnant so young, but I miss being pregnant. I feel empty, if that makes sense. I miss feeling him kick and move. I miss some of my cute maternity shirts... lol.

I feel like I'm going through the baby blues.

I enjoy having my son, and I can't wait to be able to take him out in public. He's absolutely beautiful... if I do say so myself!

Also, at what age did your lil one start to get on a good schedule and start sleeping through the night? he seems to be doing well, but I've heard 2-4 weeks will be miserable!

Thanks!

Answer
The feeling you feel may be part of the baby blues. However, it is perfectly normal. Being pregnant is a wonderful feeling. Your life is going to be turned upside down for a while, so you may want to get used to being a new mom before you add another baby.

My husband and I decided to try for our second when my son turned 1. Now pregnant again, I am realizing that two will be a ton more work with them both being young. However, it will be worth it. You may want to wait until your son becomes a little more independent. That will also give your body some time to heal since it just went through a lot of stress. Waiting a while will give you time to settle down with your new gift and allow yourself to think of when baby #2 should come.

In answer to your second question, the first month is a bit rough since everyone is settling in. The key to sleeping babies is to make sure that they get their days and nights sorted out. Any room my son was in during the day I would make sure the light was on. As we prepared him for bed in the evening, the lights were gradually dimmed. Being consistent is key as to whatever you decide. We've had this routine since day 1 and my son has always been a great sleeper.

Congratulations! Best of luck to you!

Baby shower for baby number 2?

Q. What is the proper etiquette for a baby shower if you had a baby shower for your first baby. Do you still have one for your second or do you only get one shower?
Im not pregnant with baby number two but a close friend is and me and he sister are unsure if we should throw a shower or not since this is her second child.

Answer
I wouldn't throw your own. But if another family member or friend is offering. Then go for it. I personally, would call it a baby sprinkling rather than a baby shower. Just so people don't feel obligated to bring a ton of gifts. And skip the registry this time. Just let people feel free to bring things if they want to or not. Most people will though.

What would be a proper present to bring to a Bris?

Q. A friend's baby is having his Bris this Thursday, and I wonder what to bring along. Scotch, nappies, earplugs, anything, you name it, but I'd like it to be proper procedure.
And the question just occurred to me whether the present is more for the child or more for the parents?

Answer
If you have already given the baby a gift, do not feel obligated to bring one to the bris. However, a small token gift, such as a bib or stuffed animal, is perfectly appropriate.

Though it is thoughtful to give a baby gift with religious meaning, it is certainly not required, nor even expected, if you are not Jewish. Any gift suitable for a newborn baby boy is appropriate.

Do not be offended when your gift is not opened in front of you. The bris ceremony does not involve gift opening, and most parents choose to open the gifts after their guests have gone home.

What do you think about this baby name?

Ezra Sydney... I really like the name Ezra, and Sydney is a family name. I want to use this for my first child, whether it be a boy or a girl, I think it sounds pretty unisex. Any opinions?

Answer
To name your child "Ezra" would be quite an honor. I am not sure how much you know about the prophet Ezra but the Jewish and Christian communities alike attribute Ezra the prophet for doing several things that helped spread the God's Word throughout the lands and he also helped in dealing with Jewish law. Here is a little history on Ezra:

Ezra was the son of Seraiah (2 Kings 25:18-21), and a lineal descendant of Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron.

In the seventh year of the reign of Artaxerxes I Longimanus, Ezra obtained leave to go to Jerusalem and to take with him a company of Israelites (Ezra 8). Artaxerxes showed great interest in Ezra's undertaking, granting him "all his requests," and giving him gifts for the house of God. Ezra assembled a band of approximately 5,000 exiles to go to Jerusalem. They rested on the banks of the Ahava for three days and organized their four-month march across the desert.

No record exists for the 14 years between 459 BC, when Ezra is thought to have organized the ecclesiastical and civil affairs of the Israelite nation, and 445 BC, when Nehemiah first appears in the Bible's chronology. Nehemiah's first recorded act was to rebuild the ruined wall of the city. After this reconstruction, a great group of people gathered in Jerusalem to dedicate the wall. On the appointed day, Ezra and his assistants read the Torah aloud to the whole population. According to the text, a great religious awakening occurred. For successive days, beginning on Rosh Hashanah, the people rejoiced in the holy days of the month of Tishri. Ezra read the entire scroll of the Torah to the people, and he and other scholars and Levites explained and interpreted the deeper meanings and applications of the Torah to the assembled crowd. These festivities culminated in an enthusiastic and joyous seven-day celebration of the Festival of Sukkot, concluding on the eighth day with the holiday of Shemini Atzeret. On the 24th day, immediately following the holidays, they held a solemn assembly, fasting and confessing their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. Then, they renewed their national covenant to follow the Torah and to observe and fulfill all of the Lord's commandments, laws and decrees (Neh. 10:30). Abuses were rectified, and arrangements for the temple service were completed.

Christmas gifts for a 9 month old?

For my sca

I am planning on starting Christmas shopping extra early this year. This will be my first Christmas with my daughter and I don't really know what to get her. She will be 9 months old and I haven't the slightest clue as to what will be really exciting for her. What have you done in the past for your baby's first Christmas or what do you plan to do?

Answer
I didn't go "all out" when mine were under a year. In fact, too many gifts might overwhelm her.

I got mine a few books, one big toy and a couple of smaller toys. Oh and some clothes...

Oh and by the way, you're not the only one excited for Christmas this year. My husband will be home for Christmas this year, after spending 15 months in Iraq. So I'm over the moon for Christmas-time to get here. :)

Is my 9 month old gifted?

Jeena S

My daughter, turning 9 months next week, has seemed very bright since early infancy. She is very interactive and understands when we talk to her, such as"lift your hands up." or "put your arm through the sleeve" she says "up" with her arms outstretched for us to pick her up, she also waves and says "Hi" she says "book" when she wants her favorite book. this is in addition to "mama and dada." also, she gives kisses when I ask for them...and she recently started a game that she plays with us- she shakes her head, then we imitate her and she laughs, then she waves her arms, we imitate it, then she shrugs her shoulders, and we imitate it... she finds this game so funny. She is also clear about letting us know what she wants/likes/dislikes. for example she sometimes chooses what she wants to eat, if I show her the containers and ask her "do you want yogurt or cereal?" she will choose one. So it seems to us (her parents) that she has a very high IQ. She also attends daycare part time during the week and the teachers there have remarked about her intelligence. I should mention that she is not advanced with her motor skills, she is on the lower end of average, she sits up, and scoots around like an inchworm and rolls to get what she wants, but she is not yet crawling or trying to walk. Her dad and I were both considered gifted as children, her dad is an MD/PhD physician and researcher and I am a research scientist working on my PhD at an ivy league university. Thanks in advance for your input.

Answer
I think it is too early to think whether she's gifted or not. And I think rather than think on those lines, you should simply identify her strengths and weaknesses and work towards them. My daughter was also very behind in gross motor skills - she crawled at around 14 months and walked only after 17 month mark. But she was advanced in her fine motor skills and cognitive skills. We learned this when we took her for an evaluation on her pediatrician's recommendation, because she was lagging in gross motor skills. We were told that it often happens that babies who are focusing more on one type of skill may be lagging in another. Indeed my daughter started speaking early too and was already talking in sentences at 18 months. She's also very good with puzzles, legos etc.

I think right now you should just focus on building her strengths. E.g. I knew my daughter was speaking early, so I used to talk to her a lot, describing everything around us and what we were doing. We also gave her a lot of opportunity for her to practice her fine motor skills. We also gave her opportunity to build her gross motor skills, but we never pushed her. I think you should just focus on doing the right things to aid her development. Whether she is gifted or not, you'll know eventually.

What to include in gift basket for new mother/newborn?

HappyToBeM

what are some good things to put into a gift basket for mama/new baby??

i am mailing this.

Answer
I'm currently on the receiving end of these, I'm only 29 weeks but its the first baby for a while so I'm getting loaded with things. If I get another stuffed toy or newborn size baby outfit I'll have to donate it to charity honestly, I have no space left for them. I'd get things that they'll never stop buying, nappies, wipes, powder and things. I'm pretty much set up for clothes until at least 6 months so maybe bigger sized outfits would be better. And for mum, maybe a voucher to get something special, or even at the local grocery store so she can get things she needs.

Pleeeeese, give me some ORIGINAL ideas for a wonderful baby shower gift, for a special mother.?

Yvonne T

I have thought of everything. I think... but how about an original way top present, or just anything? Oh, she is having a girl, do any day, her shower is this thursday, we are in dental assisting school, and the girls in our class have put together a little money each for the purchase of a crib, but some are able to do more, for someone who does not have much. Please help?

Answer
As a mum of 3 the best gift anyone can get is disposable nappies, wipes, bepanthen cream & baby bathing solution.

Why? Because we go through tonnes of them & its often difficult to get to a store for supplies in the first weeks & mum-to-be will love you for it. These items are also quite expensive as an ongoing expense so you will be helping out where it will be most needed.

But a really special gift that IS appreciated would be you giving homemade vouchers with redeemable chores on them. Some examples:

Evening of babysitting
2 loads of washing & drying
Family dinner cooked
Morning coffee at local Café
Vacumn the house
Manicure & Pedicure
Doing the grocery shopping

This allows you to be individual, creative & ultra helpful during a time when new mums are so exhausted. My girlfriend did this for me & it was so special, just what I needed.

I hope the baby shower goes well.. let us know what you decided to do!

TWIN SISTER as MAID OF HONOR?

Q. I dislike my twin sister a lot at times. I'm getting married, and my mom expects me to have her as my maid of honor... but the thing is I just don't like her like that. Growing up with her was hell. When she was nice to me, I was a huge idiot, and told her everything and trusted her. As soon as we got in a fight, she used all she knew about me and threatened to tell my folks on me. And I was SUCH an idiot to keep doing this to her all the times. I ALWAYS TRUSTED HER, because I thought maybe she would change. When we were kids, I lost my Walkman, and she had a cd player [gift from an aunt] and her walkman that our folks bought us, and so she gave me her walkman. but every time we got in an argument she demanded it back, and threatened to tell my mother that i lost mine. she was always super bossy, and it hurt a lot. I'm not saying I was perfect or a saint or anything. I had my little moments, but I never ever wanted to hurt her the way she did to me. I just had this little hope that she would change :(( And she's so two faced. No one ever beliees the way she acts. Everyone thinks she's so quiet and sweet, and except for my immediate family, no one knows her real behavior. She stole all of my best friends I've had for years and tried to leave me out of their convos and stuff, and got mad if I talked to her friends. I know I seem jealous and to be honest, I was [AM!]. My mother wants her to be my maid of honor. But I was thinking of giving that title to one of my closest friends. But my mom is super mad and she said she won't come to the wedding unless my twin is the maid of honor. My mom never got along with her sister either, and my aunt became her maid of honor too. Apparently it looks bad. I don't know what to do!

Answer
This is your life too and you need to grow a backbone because over the course of your life you will find that people will bully others (you) into getting what they want. Now is the time to start being assertive. This wedding is for you and your intended. Hopefully he is the kind to stand by you which helps. Make the decision to pick someone YOU want and ask your fiance to back you up on it. Being a twin is not some automatic invitation to be the maid of honor. I bet anything you would not be chosen to be hers.
It is all a matter of having confidence in yourself. Do some reading on how to be assertive because it will help give you confidence and don't forget to ask your man to speak up for you if this becomes a problem. It is simple, your twin is not your best friend, someone else is. That is all you have to say.

Twins baby shower? When?

When Should you have a baby shower if the mommy-2-be is expecting twins? Her actual due date is Sept 30, The month of July is out b/c all weekends are already booked. So should it be the last weekend in June which is really early or the first weekend in August which is a little risky b/c babies could be here?

Answer
Ask the mommy-2-be what she thinks would be more comfortable for her. I threw my sister-in-law a baby shower & she chose the date, which was about a 5 weeks before her due date. But she was not having any complications. (By the way, her theme were bears...and they had told her one was a girl for sure...and guess what? They were both boys. Though they are faternal twins, they almost looked identical for the first 3 years.)

So the first weekend of AUGUST would be just fine, if she's ok with it. Usually, twins don't come too early. Her's were only about a week early. But like I said, it all depends on the mommy-2-be!!

Hope you have lots of fun! ;o)

TWINS FUN GAME IDEA:

Juggling Twins!

This game is fun to play at a shower for those moms having multiples! It's like hot potato.

WHAT YOU NEED: 2 baby dolls, music that can be turned off & on, and a person who controls the music.

HOW TO PLAY: Have guests stand in a big circle. Pass two baby dolls (or however many babies mom's expecting) around as the music plays. Whenever the music stops, the person holding a doll is out of the game.

Best to have the dolls apart from each other so the game moves quickly and people are constantly having to pass a baby. When it comes to the last two people, use just one doll or have 2 winners!

This game gets pretty crazy as people get eliminated! So fun!
