Answer
Hi, how about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their own name in the storyline, and they can keep it forever! Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Three Little Pigs, Mother Goose, Teddy Bear Land, Ballerina Princess, Little Mermaid, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift... Good Luck!

WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT FOR 12 MONTH OLD BABY ?

dudette

I am look for a really great gift... There are so many choices please help! Thanks

Answer
Any toy that promotes discovery (we got our daughter some baby musical instruments that play and flash: trumpet, piano and guitar. They were $5 each at Toys R Us). She loves playing with them!

Activity tables/gyms are also good to help their coordination. They make them for various age groups.

Books are awesome to get kids to love reading. If you wait until they are at an age for school, they might feel forced to like books and end up hating them...

Good luck!!

you can get christmas balls and put your babies hand print on them. That would be something cute, something they will keep and use and it wont break your bank :)

Gift to new grandparents when baby arrives?

Austin Ell

I am wanting to give my parents a special gift when my son arrives next month. Any suggestions?

Answer
It's a nice thought, but nothing could be as good as your son!

Having said that, how about some nice picture frames with the very first photos of him. Or an album that you can add photos to as he grows up (one every month for example).

Baby names?

Elise

Just curious... What are your favorite baby names that have the best and strongest meanings?
Thanks! All opinions welcome, just please provide the meaning (and perhaps origin) along with the name.
BTW..
I already have my own opinions.
I just want to know how many people realize what they are naming their children.

My favorites are :
Vivian: Bright
Rochelle: Rock
Victor: Victorious
Claire, Clarise, Clara, etc....: Clear
Ruben: Red
Stella: star
etc...
Ok... are you SERIOUS??!! Does no one take into account the actual MEANING of a name before branding a child with it for life??!!!!!
This is unreal!!!
Oooh.. Thanks Partygirl. Kiah is a beautiful name!!!
I really liked a lit of those names,
Tegan, Maeve, Finley, Callista, Calliope, Eulalia, Iris, Alice, Adeloa, Conrad and Malachi. I really like the latter two for boys names. Thanks for the ideas!
Wow... thanks for the site info! I didn't realize that both of t hose names had deeper meanings, but I like them all the more because of it :-)

Answer
Many of these are Celtic, but I'll separate those that aren't by loose origin (not every culture the name is common to, but the basic root etymology) ...

Gwyneth - happiness or white/fair/blessed
Talulla - princess of abundance
Tegan - fair/beautiful
Tegwen - fair/beautiful and blessed
Imogen - maiden; sometimes further equated with the similar word "image," and taken to indicate a girl "in the image of her mother"
Niamh - bright
Maeve - intoxicating
Carys - love
Orla - golden princess
****************
Riordan - little poet king
Findlay/Finley - white/fair warrior or fair-haired hero
Harvey - battle worthy
Angus - one strength (also the Irish god of love and youth)
Lawler - soft-spoken

GREEK
Callista - most beautiful
Calliope - beautiful voice
Agatha - good
Eumelia - melody
Eulalia - well-spoken (literally "to talk well")
Isidora - gift of Isis (goddess of the sky and nature)
Eudora - good gift
Daphne - laurel
Iris - rainbow

GERMANIC
Alice and Adelaide - noble kind/sort/type
Adelia, Adele and Adela - noble
Matilda - strength in battle
**************
Henry - home ruler
Conrad - bold counsel

Clementine (French/Latin) - merciful and gentle
***************
Malachi (Hebrew) - my angel

Edit: If meanings are important to you, you'd likely find this site useful: http://www.behindthename.com/ Unlike other random "baby name" sites, you won't find randomly created meanings or loose etymologies here. Ruben, for instance, is a form of Reuben, meaning "behold, a son." The red meaning you found is likely related to the old pet form Ruby (which is a fairly obvious "red" reference, but as a separate name, a completely different etymology). ;) Likewise, Vivian is generally thought to stem from Vivianus, from Latin vivus meaning "alive." Definitely worth looking into. ;)

Is this a good idea for a gift?

allyson

My mom and dads anniversary is coming up on valentines day and my moms favorite restaurant is Panera bread. Ive heard it is kind of pricey though but i was thinking about getting them a 30 dollar gift certificate to panera bread and then a 20 dollar gift certificate to the movies as well as a offer of free babysitting of the youngest children so they can go out to a dinner and movie any night they choose. Is this a good idea or should I maybe put a little more towards it to make sure the whole meal and movie is covered? All advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer
That is a wonderful gift, I'm sure they'll appreciate. It depends on how old you are and if you have a full time job. Remember it's the thought that counts, and you sound like a very generous and thoughtful person. I'm sure they will bring some extra money to have a great time.

Christmas Gift ideas for a 2 year old girl?

:]]

I want to get a present for my boyfriends two year old daughter, but I can't think of anything? She likes baby dolls, but she has alot of them already so that's thrown out. She also likes blankets, big legos, and stuffed animals. Got any ideas?

Answer
A two-year old will really, truly, not get the idea, or be pleased, if they get a gift on Christmas. It's really just another day to them. Which is totally why everyone gets toddlers an insane amount of gifts every year, which is nonsense, but that's just my opinion. And yes, I'm a jealous teenager.

Anyways.
If they throw something out a lot, don't get it.
I suggest you get a gift basket for her. A cute one too, so she can carry her things around. Throw in the blankets, legos, stuffed animals, pillows, and might as well get a couple small dolls for her while you're at it.

Sounds pricey? Not that much. I've seen tons of places that set out handmade gift baskets - already wrapped, too - around this time with all that jazz for only twenty bucks.

The stuffed animals, in my experience, toddlers and babies like ones that are just the right size for them, so it's big enough to hug and carry, but small enough so that it's not towering over the little one. Several small plush often overwhelm the child - get a nice big one, and if you insist on smaller ones, give them to your boyfriend to hide. When the time comes, and she's not co-operating or whatever, take it out to bribe them with.

I agree with one of the others on the animal pillow/plush. They come in penguins, lady bugs, dolphins, polar bears, every other animal you can think of, and I've seen them at the mall, in one of those carts. Where I live, they're thirty bucks, but they're really cute and squishy. A two-year old might not get it though.

You can get a blanket customized for her. Choose your color, fabric. Or bring in one of your old ones, and get them to embroider her name, with some cute pictures. Toddlers tend to like pictures that are all over, or running down the sides, instead of just in one corner. Spread the love, you know?

My little brother - he's two - LOVED his Pooh-bear backpack that he got for his birthday. We're training him for daycare soon, and every morning, he sees me carrying mine my backpack to school, so he was super physicked when he got one. Pack it up with some toys, and maybe a sticker book. It's much more efficient and toddler-friendly than a gift basket. He'll have a sort "friend" in the backpack when he starts school, and whatnot. It doesn't even need to be jazzy. My cousins was like a design made ten years ago, with dark colors, and only a Winnie and Tigger on the front. He still carries it around, and it's a month since he got it. That's a pretty long life-span for a child's play toys.

Hope I helped!

Gift for new big brother?

MommyOfThr

My son will be a few months over 2 years old when baby #2 is born, and I want to get him some kind of gift for when the baby is born. Should I get him something to do with being a big brother, or just something he would like? I need some ideas please :)

Answer
I'm in the exact same situation, my son will be 2 and a half when our next boy is born in a couple of weeks!!

My son has shown a really big interest in Toy Story so I was thinking of getting him a Woody or Buzz doll/big figurine... so he has his own 'toy' to look after - boyish version of a baby doll i suppose - plus my son's bday isnt until November so he wont get any presents for a while so may as well get him something he'll enjoy for a while

My son has also started to treat his teddy and his mickey mouse teddy like babies, i have to change thier nappies, they go to the potty, eat at the table etc lol its so cute, so i'm hoping those teddings + the woody/buzz toy i get him, will give him his 'own' baby he can look after when i'm dealing with the new addition :)

Birthday ideas for baby girls's 1st birthday?

Expecting

her birthday falls nextweek but I plan to have a small get together that weekend... I will be inviting few neighbours and their kids... How should I decorate the living room and what should I buy... I'm so excited... Pls don't leave any tips out

Answer
I'll let someone else give you the ideas on toys & such...but I really do think this is a great thing to do in addition to whatever else you do....
Buy a small journal & write a letter to her - about the whole past year & all the struggles & wonderful moments. Take a while to write - days...jot things down as you think of them. I know you had some struggles early on with nursing, so write about that - all of it. This is a gift you save for years & keep adding to & give to her as an adult. Then as you think of it, in the years to come & EVERY year around her bday - add to it. Talk about details you'd forget & leave out of baby books. If you moved, if someone in the family passed that later she might no remember, if something great happened (like someone getting married), etc. As she picks up words now - she will say funny things, write them in there too. For instance, by oldest wanted to name my younger one "Blue with some Green on it" when he was born. We didn't go with *that* name as you can imagine, but it went into his book. His reactions to having a sibling, etc. I also wrote about how I missed him when I was in the hospital & how grown up he seemed all of a sudden. It is a wonderful gift to give once they are grown.

Anyway - enjoy it momma & remember the party IS for you too! To celebrate how far you've BOTH come in that year & that you made it, with your sanity intact & all. :)

Happy bday to your baby girl & good job momma!

Ok so my baby is turning 1 on October and i want to make it SUPER special!! and before people start telling me that theres no point in making it because she wont remember, my baby is a smart little girl and i know she will know whats going on...so with that said can anybody give me an idea for a theme? i want something very girly like her but i cant think of anything as special as her!! Thanks in advance...

Answer
For my 3 years olds1st b-day, her theme was flowers and cupcakes... I am very "artsy" and did student teaching for ppreschoolersfor a few years... I used a garden idea and hand-made her invite on special paper with a special poem and a keepsake from her... we had a cake in the shape of a daisy... on our wooden fence we had gigantic realistic flowers with a letter from her name in each and a sign over it that said happy birthday... handmade felt cupcake gift bags with a sippy cup, bubbles, a board book, and a mini rubber duck... cupcakes with flowers iced on them... we had fruit kabobs & mini wraps... she wore a tu-tu and a custom made diaper cover that said birthday girl Grailey on the bum and a tiara.. and we had little flower decorations everywhere..she LOVED it!!! I have most of the websites to order these items if you'd like them... wasn't too expensive

my best friend just lost her baby how do i comfront her?

seannah

how can i talk to her and not bring it up what should i get herto make her fell happy should i give them the baby gift i got them

Answer
Most women want to talk about what has happened to them, and be allowed to express their sadness and emptiness now that their baby has died. Don't be afraid to talk about the baby, or the mother's loss. Do not turn away or change the subject if your friend wants to talk about these subjects, because that would show that you care more about your own comfort than her grief. Helping a friend through a miscarriage involves being a sounding board, listening to her grief, holding her hand, or offering a literal shoulder to cry on as needed.

It's okay to tell her that you don't know what to say. You might tell her how sorry you feel that she lost her baby. Share the joy you experienced with her when she told you about her pregnancy. Most of all, let her know that you care. Even though most women want to talk, your friend may not be at that point, so don't "expect" her to say or do anything.

Ask your friend if she has done anything to provide a tangible memory of her baby. If she has not but would like to, you might be able to help her. Some people hold a memorial service and/or have a marker placed on the grave where their child is buried. Others want something they can keep in their home such as a stuffed animal with a birth certificate, which is made up with the baby's name and other information. For many parents, some type of memorial is very helpful in their grieving process.

Offering to help your friend in a physical way - cleaning, cooking, answering the phone, driving her or older children to where they need to go - can be a great relief. However, don't give a vague offer of help and expect her to call you when she needs something. She may be in no condition mentally to remember who made the offer, and probably won't want to burden you with her needs anyway. However, she would probably be very glad to have you step in to take care of some of the routine things that need to be done -- things she is just too numb to care about. Remember, too, that other family members will be grieving in their own way and that should also be respected.

Let me offer a word of caution. Comforting your friend does not mean offering platitudes or trying to explain why she lost her child or trying to make her "get over" her loss. This is her loss, and it always will be. The baby she lost is no less a part of her life than if a birth had taken place. Do not tell her how to grieve, and do not make her feel that she is being judged for how she grieves (or for the fact that she lost her child). Society tries to "sweep it under the rug" and tends to make the mother feel like she is wrong for grieving. Be considerate her feelings.

Remember, the grief should not be for the child, but for the parent(s) now left without the child. The child is now in heaven, and if the parents know Jesus as their Savior they will one day see their child again.

Memorial ideas?

Q. Im having a memorial for my newborn son this week. Without listing evrything I have planned,if you have any special ideas I may not have thought of,Id like to "hear" them. I want this to be as perfect as it can be. TY.

Answer
I lost a baby boy at 21w3d due to incompatent cervix...he lived for 3 short hours. I know how you must be feeling! Its horrible and no one should have to deal with this.

I have a few songs that I love. At first they made me cry my eyes out but they help me now.

Have your volume turned up because it will automaticley start to play on both.

A heart of gold stopped beating,
Two wonderful eyes are at rest,
God broke our hearts
To prove to us
He takes only the best.

God knew you had to leave us,
But you did not go alone;
For part of us went with you
The day He took you home.

To some you are forgotten,
To some a part of the past,
But to those who loved and lost you,
Your memory will always last.

Daddy Please don't look so sad, Mommy please don't cry
"Cause I am in the arms of Jesus and He sings me lullabies
Please, try not to question God, don't think he is unkind.
Don't think He sent me to you, and then He changed His mind.

You see, I am a Special child, and I'm needed up above.
I'm the Special gift you gave Him, the product of your love.
I'll always be there with you, and watch the sky at night.
Find the brightest star that's gleaming,
That's my halo's brilliant light.

You'll see me in the morning frost that mists your window pane.
That's me in the summer showers I'll be dancing in the rain.
When you feel a little breeze from a gentle wind that blows.
That's me, I'll be there, planting a kiss on your nose.

When you see a child playing, and your heart feels a little tug,
That's me, I'll be there Giving your heart a hug.
So daddy, please don't look so sad, mommy don't you cry.
I'm in the arms of Jesus, and He sings me lullabies.

Should I get rebaptized?

Z

Lately I've been pretty torn on this. I was baptized and confirmed Catholic but wasn't really sincere in my confirmation and haven't practiced since then. I haven't even been a Mass since I was in high school. I was kind of bitter and annoyed I was baptized in a church I had no use for but never really put much more thought into it. I still considered myself a Christian but didn't go to church much. Lately that changed an I felt a calling. I've started going to a non-denominational church much more frequently. They're doing baptisms again in about a month and I could do so.

On the one hand I kind of want to because I had no say in my previous one and my confirmation wasn't really valid, plus I want my commitment to my faith to be my own, not something I inherited form my parents. I like how churches that do adult baptism tend to get people more excited than confirmation, I like the videos and photos I've seen of really excited and happy looking people my age coming out of the water.

But on the other hand I heard some things from other people in churches that baptize babies about how it's not necessary. Just that baptism was merely a dedication of me to God, not to any specific church or denomination, and thus the denomination it was done in is irrelevant. And that if I do it again I'm saying that the sign of the love my parents had for me in that and symbolism of God's grace to anyone even those too young to know what's happening meant nothing and that I'd be denying how important that was. I've been thinking about that a bit more.

So I'm still kind of torn, if it happens it'll be in about a month.

Answer
When I saw your question my heart leapt with joy. Don't hesitate my friend. I was Christened and confirmed too but let me tell you some important things:- (A repentant believer who is baptised with a baptism of repentance (Mark 1:4, Acts 2:38) is saved by it - honestly 1 Peter 3:21 Titus 3:5 etc): Every human being born into this world is born through the Adamic sin nature not a child of God but in the wrong household. We are born to serve Satan in his kingdom of darkness, we are born cut off from God, and on our way to hell already and that's why Jesus said, we must be born all over again (John 3:3) of water (that's baptism) and Spirit (that's Holy Spirit John 3:5), because water baptism is specifically for the remission of our sins (Mark 1:4) and in baptism, Jesus Himself comes and washes us from our sins in His own blood (Rev 1:5) so we will be spotless, glorious, sanctified, without wrinkle etc (Eph 5: 26 & 27).

In addition, and most importantly, during baptism INTO Christ's death and burial (Rom 6: 3 & 4), God will CRUCIFY our old man for us (Romans 6:6), which is our old Adamic sin nature, and that's when we are truly born out of Adam and born again of God, by water (baptism) and Spirit (H.S.) and we enter God's Kingdom (John 3:5). Without water and Spirit we CANNOT enter (John 3:5).

Thereby we have changed Masters and Households; instead of being in Satan's control & household and service, God adopts us into His family by Holy Spirit of Adoption and we even have an inner witness of the fact that we are His true sons/children (Romans 8: 15-17), because we are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus and water baptism when we 'PUT ON CHRIST' (Gal 3: 26 & 27) His righteousness; and God delivers us OUT OF Satan's kingdom of darkness which we were born into the first time through Adam, and translates us INTO the kingdom of His Son (Col 1:13). Also, during baptism; IN HIM we are circumcised with the circumcision WITHOUT hands (God does it for us), by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, through the circumcision of Christ (Colossians 2:11-13). All of this makes us into a JEW INWARDLY, because circumcision is not of the outward flesh but inward (Romans 2:28 & 29). Circumcision is of the heart in the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26, 11:19). All of the above causes us to be BORN AGAIN OF GOD in baptism into and through Christ the Way to the Father (John 14:6)

Baptism is specifically for the remission of our sins (Mark 1:4) so that having been washed INSIDE, we can then receive the gift of the Holy Spirit according to (Acts 2:38), because God gives His Spirit to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32). The washing of regeneration (Water baptism) is what saves us in conjunction with the renovation of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5) for as Peter confirmed, baptism now saves us...through Christ's resurrection (1 Peter 3:21), so we MUST be born again (John 3:3) of water and Spirit to enter God's kingdom (John 3:5).

You will be told by others that you can be saved merely by faith - it is not so. Look up the scriptures I have given and you will see that I speak truth. Baptism saves us (1 Peter 3:21, Titus 3:5) because we are washed in Christ's blood (Rev 1:5) and our sins are remitted (Mark 1:4, Acts 2:38) as long as we have a truly repentant heart for our sinfulness. Without repentance and water baptism, we are still in our sins! We can't go to Heaven still in our sins.

He who believes and is baptised shall be saved. (Mark 16:16)

Ideas for a Baby Shower?

wilem008

My friends baby is due in 3 months and Id really like to plan a baby shower for her! She will be a single mum and it short on money so I thought it might be nice to throw her a shower and hopefully she will get lots of usefull gifts...

Anyway, what kinds of things could I do to make the shower really successful? Time of day? Food? music? Games/Activities? What have other people done?

Answer
Well when my mom threw a baby shower for her sister, We played some of the classic games, Like having everyone take a roll of yarn and guess how much it would take to wrap all the way around the mom and who ever was the closest got a little gift [nothing expensive, just lotion or something.] And then we played the classic game of "guess whats in the diaper." pretty much the melted chocolate candy bars in a diaper, and everyone had a piece of paper and had to guess what type of candy bar it was and write it down. The rules were, though, You couldn't taste it [not sure if you wanted to because of what it looked like lol], But whoever got the closest to guessing all 4 or 10 diapers [its your choice how many you want to use] they got a prize.
And my mom came up with a game...im not sure what its called..but she took little plastic babys [the ones that are teeny tiny] and froze them in ice cubes in the freezer. And the point of the game was to melt your baby out of the ice cube before anyone else. The rules were, You couldnt bite on it, or try and break the ice. You had to melt it, meaning rubbing it inbetween your hands, sucking on it, just whatever you had to do to get your baby out of the cube. It was alot of fun. And whoever won that, Got a prize.
And at my baby shower, my sister [she was the one who planned it] she went out and baught clothes pins, And handed one out to everyone. And the rule was, nobody could mention the word "baby" if they did and someone caught them, Then they get to steal their clothes pin. And whoever has the most clothes pins by the time the baby shower is over, They got a special prize. [like a bath kit w/ sea salts, etc.]
I thought it was alot of fun. But the rules to that game were, If somebody says the word "baby" and they have more than one clothes pin, You can only take one from them. [just to make the game fair.]
And getting down to the sentimental stuff, Tell everyone to bring a bead with them so that they can string it onto a necklace. [or wrist band, anklet, etc. it just depends on how many people you have invited.]
If this is their first pregnancy, Pass the string around and have everyone who brought a bead [you might want to go out and buy some just incase some people didnt bring one]
And have them give the first time mother, Advice on letting their kids grow up, Tips for during labor like how to breath or things that will help them cope that they found useful, and just their wishes for her as a mother. And put the bead on the string and pass it along to the next person. And when this has gone around the whole room, Put it on the mother, And the rule is that she has to wear that until after her baby is born. Its called a labor necklace. Its meant to help the mother be stronger during her labor emotionally wise, Because lets face it, labor is a scary thing especially for someone who's never been in that kind of situation. And it really helps her emotionally and it gives her strength. Its actually an indian technique. All the mothers would join in and make a necklace before the woman went into labor, and right as soon as she did, they would put the necklace on her and chant to her giving her words of incouragement. It actually made the birthing process something more spiritual and special. Because giving birth is truely the right of passage into motherhood.
I wouldnt worry to much about music, With all the guests they more than likely will be talking and you wont be able to hear the music anyway.
But the time of day, you might want to ask the mom-to-be, since she might tend to take naps during certain times of the day.
And snack wise, I would ask the mom-to-be as well. If nothing bothers her, then i would go for some lemonade in a baby bath tub or just a regular punch bowl, maybe a 7 layer bean dip with chips, Or you can ask the guests to bring their own special dish. [less clean up too!] And of course, brownies or cookies, or some sort of small desert cake. Pregnant women arent suppose to mow down on sugar. [even though a little indulgence every once in a great while is ok] Let her be spoiled with something sweet [=

And where the baby shower will be held, If the weather is nice, I would suggest a nice park, or outside in a backyard. If the weather isn't so great, Then there is always inside someones house. My baby shower was held at my grandma's house, but i would suggest having the baby shower at a family members house. Its cheap [as in FREE lol], and if the people you've invited is mostly family, Then it makes it easier for them to find the place.

Tell her congrats for me!!

Are baby shower favors necessary for an Indian baby shower functions?

Patel

Answer
I have been to a few Indian baby showers and there were always some sort of favors or gifts for the guests.
There were tons of games with small prices (candy, etc) and at the end all of us received a baby shower favor or a photo frame. Favors can be store bought or hand made.
I liked the gourmet baby shower fortune cookies, http://www.chandagiftstudio.com/newbabyfortunecookiesindividuallywrapped.html ,they were so cute and perfect, totally reflected the occasion. Hit of the party, innovative, unique and not expensive!!!

My sister (married) wants to have a baby girl. What bible scripture promises can one pray for this desire...?

t_a_m_i_l

to be fulfilled. Has God ever anwered your prayer for a baby with a baby?

Like the promise, "Delight yourself in the Lord & He shall give you the desires of your heart."
Cinderella,

Ps 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. 6 And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light & thy judgment as the noonday.

This is a Psalm of David. How did He delight in the Lord? David delighted in the LORD's Law, Torrah, doing God's will, statutes, testimonies, commandments, comforts, peace. Basically David delighted in God's Word & the Sanctuary.

Delight oneself in the LORD, and He promises to give you your hearts desire. Also, Jesus said that if we abide in His Love & His Word, we can ask what we wish & He will give it to us.

So, yes, God can give us our hearts desire if we abide in Him & His Word.
His will is revealed in His Word. Delight yourself in His Word. Also one needs to delight oneself in the Lord & His Love. Abide in His love & His Word is a condition. It is His will for us. Also speaking the promises. That is what this ?is all about. What we don't want to say is, "I'll never have a baby girl. God thinks I'm not good enough." That is not God's will for us.

Yes, I know some who were prayed for & didn't get pregnant yet or doctors say couldn't (sometimes because of previous abortion). But I also know of some who were told the same thing & were prayed for & became pregnant.

I personally believe God wants my sister to have a baby girl. I want to claim the positive truth rather than what others may say are facts that it can't happen.
Cinderella,
About your friend, one can still claim God's promises for her also. I guess it takes receiving it from God. Once God hears us, we need to receive. Sometimes a baby needs good adoptive parents, it's God's will
Cinderella,

Thanks for all the info. I see you are trying to make me see a balance. I appreciate that. But, I have prayed for my sister & verses have come to mind when I wrote you. So, I'll have to pray those. As far as God giving us what we ask when we abide in Him (His love) & His Word (promises), ask what we will. So also if He hears us He answers us. When we have the assurance He heard us we can recieve, and if we receive, faith is the title deed, that what we don't see is made aparent. Love has to be the root. His Word also. Then we need to receive. Sometimes people don't receive, because they don't know what God has given them.

I believe my God keeps His promises. But if we ask for wrong reasons, we don't get.

Sorry that you disagree with me. But I may not be writing what I believe clearly.

Answer
Know also that the verse that you quoted isn't the way some think it is. All that verse is really saying is when you delight yourself in the Lord, His will becomes your desires.

I have two very good friends that are believers. Both of them started two years ago trying to have a baby with their husbands. They both have very similar difficulties, but have been down very different paths. The one was at the last stage of how far she was willing to go with the doctor's invasivness. She just recently got pregnant. The other woman is going to adopt. They both prayed. They had other's praying with them. The both have fasted and prayed, and one got pregnant and the other didn't.

Around them several young girls got pregnant out of wedlock, and are having children, before the one got pregnant. God allows and doesn't allow things in our lives for reasons. The both want babies so bad, and one has finally been given the gift after 2 years. The other has peace about adopting. She would absolutely love to go conceive and give birth to her own child. Both couples are serving the Lord with all their heart.

I say all that to say that it is perfectly fine to pray for a baby. But God has a bigger picture that we can't see, so His answer is not always what we want it to be. The one friend that finally did get pregnant, beforehand discovered a growth around her reproductive area. The doctors removed it. Had she gotten pregnant and discovered it after, it would have put both mother and child at risk. Remember that His will is far above our thinking.

Also, if you are delighting yourself in the Lord just to get what you want, then you are delighting yourself for the wrong reasons.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am just going to add to what you responded to me by asking, about my one friend that delighted herself in the Lord and wanted to have her own child but can't.

1Jo 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

It has to be according to His will. And how do we figure out His will by delighting ourselves in Him.

I don't know why my friend is unable to conceive despite doing everything you just mentioned. However, she understands that there is a bigger picture she can't see. The Lord's will for her might be to adopt and that child come to Christ. Or that she would be able to minister to other families that are going through circumstances such as hers.

The Lord has a plan for each of our lives that exceeds any of our desires. I am not saying I don't want your sister to have a baby or that she won't have a baby, motherhood is a wonderful thing. I have a beautiful daughter that brings so much to my life. I am saying sometimes God says no to what we want because He has something better planned for us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tamil,

This will be my last response on this as I am not going to beat a dead horse, and if you disagree we will have to agree to disagree

I believe we need to pray in faith for our desires. I have done it again and again. Many times God has changed my desires especially when I was really seeking Him on them. He has even told me no before, because He had something better for me.

I have heard much about the claim it perspective and I agree with praying in faith but as James says, God allows us to go through tough times and things we don't understand to make us rely more on Him and to grow us.

If what you claim were to be true about someone delighting in the Lord, praying, and claiming, then God should give every Christian that abides in Him and in His love what they desire. At least that is the way it sounds from what you wrote. The problem is there have been many strong Christian women that have never been able to have children. I use that as the example because that is what we have been talking about.

The question I pose is why does God heal one and not the other when both are doing the same thing? Because God's will is different for each one.

God speaks through prayer, supernatural circumstances, His people, and His word.

God reveals His will to each believer. He doesn't necessarily use His word like you said. When God called me to be a pastor's wife, He used His people to reveal His will for my life. He used His word and prayer to confirm it, but revealing and confirming are two different things.

Again I say that I hope that your sister is able to have her own children, praying in faith is great. If per chance, God's will for your sister does not include her own children, she needs to understand and others need to be there to encourage her and let her know that God hasn't abandoned her, she is still loved and important to God, and God still has a purpose for her.

It is a very difficult road to travel. Eventhough I never experienced it, I walked with both of my friends and counceled them. The one came to me as a shoulder to cry on, I desired so much for them both to have a baby that I spent a lot of my time on my face before the Lord praying for them. I fasted and prayed for them both. The church anointed both of them with oil, and the elders laid hands on them to pray for them. I understand the power of prayer. I have seen people healed from brain tumors, cancer, etc. The Lord healed me of sever back pain. I have seen others that have died eventhough we prayed the same way for them as those that were healed. Sometimes the Lord says no.

As far as my friend that didn't conceive goes, she has never had an abortion. She has had physical problems from when she was a teenager. She still believes and prays believing, I have been praying for her, but God never promised she would have a child. She trusts God whether He gives her a child or not and her faith is strong.

Birthday gift ideas for my mom?

Alyssa B

I have no idea what to do, but I like something sentimental.

Answer
I made this for my mom one year because my mom and I have this goal to make the other cry....take pretty paper and cut in many slits...on each slit write fond memories you and her shared even funny things that only the two of you know but make you laugh out loud all the way to the sentimental times that make you cry just thinking about them....put all the slits in a mason jar and tie a ribbon around the jar...then tell your mom day after day or just on a whim, pull a slit out of the jar and you two are togehter in thought any time day or night...sure to be the BEST gift she gets...good luck

Easter gift???

Outrageous

Ok... I'm going over my boyfriend's parents house for easter. I'm there every Sunday for dinner. Should I get them something for Easter.... like an Easter gift or something?
My boyfriend's sister recently had a daughter. Should I get her baby something?
I am totally clueless. Any help would be highly appreciated :)

Answer
It would be nice if you took a little something, anything, for the baby or the family. It's not expected or required, but since you are going over there to celebrate the holiday with them, it wouldn't hurt to bring something. Maybe a small basket of candy you can all share, and a little stuffed bunny for the babe.

What should I put in my baby's Easter basket?

Michael K

She is 5 months old, and my first and only baby (I can't have any more babies because of medical reasons). I know she is too little to understand, but it is important to me that I celebrate her first Easter. Any cute ideas for her Easter basket? I was thinking a little stuffed bunny, and a book about Easter, that I can read to her. Any other ideas? She is a very spoiled little girl. She has everything a 5 month old could possibly have lol.

Answer
How about baby's first easter picture frame? You can personalized it with her name! With express shipping you can still get it by Easter.

Gifts for mom... i need helpp?

jenna

im a teenager that needs a GOOD gift idea for my mom. My budget is $50 but if its bigger, my sister will pay 50 and i will too.She likes cooking, but already has all the pots and pans you can imagine. she doesnt like homemade crafts or cheap jewelry.
this is hard!

Answer
Moms LOVE thoughtful gifts....
Get her a gift certificate for a facial, massage, or a manicure (something to relieve stress). Then....
make her a coupon book. Make the coupons for things you know your mom will enjoy like...
1. Good for lunch prepared by me for you
2. Good for cleaning up the dishes after dinner ect.
My kids did this last year for my b-day I redeemed them as I needed to. My favorite was "movies with me" ( they told me to pick a movie then rented it, popped me popcorn and had soda) just spent some time with me and I didn't have to play host.
Really all moms want is to spend a little time with our kids, have them be a little generous once in awhile and to know they love us.

To new and expecting moms...a baby registry question?

Benji's Mo

I am currently 18 weeks with my first child, and will hopefully find out the sex of the baby next week. I am starting to work on my gift registry (some family has indicated that they wanted to get us baby stuff for the holidays so that we can get the nursery done early).

What things are a must?
What was the most useful?
What was completely useless?

Answer
cool question I actually have my registry printed out in front of me. I had my baby in may and there were things I could have done without.
Musts: car seat, bottles, bathtub, health kit (nail clippers, medicine dropper, nasal aspirator etc), wash cloths, socks, onsies, sleepers, head support, humidifier, receiving blankets, butt ointment, a place for the baby to sleep and sheets for it.

Most Useful: bobby or a newborn bobby lounger, snap and go stoller (for infant carrier the two together is like a stroller), video baby monitor, crib bedding set, bottle warmer, a bundle me to cover the baby in it's carrier if it's cold where you live, a play mat.

What I could have done without: A day and night bottle warmer. It would have been perfect if I could have continued to pump milk. If you pump and store the milk, it has a section to keep the bottles cold.
So in the middle of the night you don't have to go all the way to the kitchen to warm the bottle.

a baby girl?

xlost_n_no

my best friend is due in december and she's having a girl. I dont' know what to get my friend or the baby. i was thinking of makign a quilt. but what else could i do that is not a simple gift.
the only thing they told me was the babies room is fairy themed if that helps

Answer
The coolest thing is a diaper cake! You can use the theme of the room as the decorations on the cake, and it is useful since its made of diapers. I have made 2 and they have been a huge hit at the baby showers I have been to. If I knew how to put a picture on here I would send it to you so you could see the one I did for my niece. You buy a large package of diapers, which ever kind the person uses, I personally used swaddlers by pampers just because they were white on one and I used pampers babydry on the other because it was my first one. You roll up the diapers in a roll and tie them with yarn or ribbon, my cakes had almost a hundred diapers on them. You could use newborn and size one since those are the smallest ones and usually the diapers are giant on most babies. Then you put things in the middle of the cake, in layers. Like my first layer was a box of sensitive baby wipes and then you arrange the diapers around them and make it round shaped and you tie all around that layer, I found yarn works well cause it is cheaper can get it in lovely shades of pink and then you put another something on top of the box of wipes and surround that with diapers and tie them and make that layer smaller than the bottom one for this layer I used a baby wash and some diaper cream. Then you could put a pack of onesies in the next layer up and put the diapers around those in a smaller circle than the previous. The top layer I used some hand sanitizers for kids that I got from bath and body works and surrounded them by the rest of the diapers and tied around all those to keep it in place. For the top I bought little anklet socks, the ones with lace around the cuffs and rolled them to look like roses and got some of that curly ribbon and topped the cake off with that. Then I got some embelishments like ribbon and baby diaper pins, bibs that say I love my mommy and another that said I love my daddy and pinned them on the thicker ribbon. I used some other ribbon to tie travel sized soaps and lotions to hang around the edges as well. I got fancy ribbon and put it around the bottom of the cake edges and when all is said and done it looks like a wedding cake and gets so many compliments that you know its the best gift ever. I used a flat board to carry it on with the base wrapped in a baby receiving blanket. I think I also hung some small toys like teethers and rattles on it as well. It will take a couple hours of nonstop work to get it done, but it helps immensely. You can google diaper cakes and get some more ideas on how to make it, if you give me your email address I will send you a pic of mine as I was working on it and after it was finished. As far as the quilt, I might wait until the babys first birthday and see if the mom will give you some of the special outfits that the baby has outgrown and use some of those as parts of the quilt. My sister in law actually used some of my baby blanket and added it to a quilt for my daughter and it means everything to me. Good luck and congrats to your friend! Also another idea is to try to take a picture of the babys hands or feet or the mom and dad holding the babys hand and crop everything except their hands out of the picture and frame it.

Advice from Jewish folks?

djc1175

I'm Christian, and my Dr's wife is expecting their first child(male) next month. They are Jewish. I would like to get them a gift but have no idea what to get. When I was with him the other day I mentioned a 'Hamsa" his answer was "Oh, my wife has ton's on those." Any good idea's for me??
My question is here, because this is about Culture and Society!

Answer
As I'm sure you already know, Jews don't believe in Baby showers for the most part. They see it as bad luck.

So, wait until after the baby has been named.
(Usually another separate ceremony)

Personalized gifts are always welcomed after the Naming ceremony!
A personalized Kiddish cup or Mezuzah is always welcomed as these items become part of the child's Heritage collection.

What would be a proper present to bring to a Bris?

Tahini Cla

A friend's baby is having his Bris this Thursday, and I wonder what to bring along. Scotch, nappies, earplugs, anything, you name it, but I'd like it to be proper procedure.
And the question just occurred to me whether the present is more for the child or more for the parents?

Answer
If you have already given the baby a gift, do not feel obligated to bring one to the bris. However, a small token gift, such as a bib or stuffed animal, is perfectly appropriate.

Though it is thoughtful to give a baby gift with religious meaning, it is certainly not required, nor even expected, if you are not Jewish. Any gift suitable for a newborn baby boy is appropriate.

Do not be offended when your gift is not opened in front of you. The bris ceremony does not involve gift opening, and most parents choose to open the gifts after their guests have gone home.

If someone you know has a baby. Do you bring a gift when seeing them in the hospital?

Danielle

If the answer is yes. What kind of gift?

Answer
It really depends on the culture where u live.
But,the usual thing is,when u meet them at hospital,u must give them something like flowers or a box of chocolate, whatever feels right to u. Remember, the gift usually is for the mother and not the baby.
Later, like after a few weeks u generally get a gift for baby(like some toy or clothes).
Hope that helps :)

When to give gifts when several events are going on?

cgirl97

My dil, is expecting the second baby in January. Is it ok to give the newborn gift with Christmas gift? Or do I wait and give after baby is born? She isn't having a shower this time but know it is good to have baby items ready beforehand.

What is a good, sensible gift to give when she's in the hospital?
A busy winter.
Joli; I guess brown hair, glasses and a santa hat aren't that uncommon?
I got the mother some nice relaxing type gifts; a candle, in her fav scent and a nice knitted throw and a gift package for the little one to be. I am done, thanks.

Answer
Give the newborn gift after the baby is born. As far as what to give her when she is in the hospital......I don't know her. She may be worn out and need rest, she may want to be lavished with flowers to celebrate giving birth, she may want a cute outfit to bring the baby home in.....it really depends on the mom. Different women want different things (that is why we are all so difficult usually) I don't know her, but I'm sure if you think about the type of person she is you can come up with what she would love. Good luck!
