Lately I've been pretty torn on this. I was baptized and confirmed Catholic but wasn't really sincere in my confirmation and haven't practiced since then. I haven't even been a Mass since I was in high school. I was kind of bitter and annoyed I was baptized in a church I had no use for but never really put much more thought into it. I still considered myself a Christian but didn't go to church much. Lately that changed an I felt a calling. I've started going to a non-denominational church much more frequently. They're doing baptisms again in about a month and I could do so.
On the one hand I kind of want to because I had no say in my previous one and my confirmation wasn't really valid, plus I want my commitment to my faith to be my own, not something I inherited form my parents. I like how churches that do adult baptism tend to get people more excited than confirmation, I like the videos and photos I've seen of really excited and happy looking people my age coming out of the water.
But on the other hand I heard some things from other people in churches that baptize babies about how it's not necessary. Just that baptism was merely a dedication of me to God, not to any specific church or denomination, and thus the denomination it was done in is irrelevant. And that if I do it again I'm saying that the sign of the love my parents had for me in that and symbolism of God's grace to anyone even those too young to know what's happening meant nothing and that I'd be denying how important that was. I've been thinking about that a bit more.
So I'm still kind of torn, if it happens it'll be in about a month.

When I saw your question my heart leapt with joy. Don't hesitate my friend. I was Christened and confirmed too but let me tell you some important things:- (A repentant believer who is baptised with a baptism of repentance (Mark 1:4, Acts 2:38) is saved by it - honestly 1 Peter 3:21 Titus 3:5 etc): Every human being born into this world is born through the Adamic sin nature not a child of God but in the wrong household. We are born to serve Satan in his kingdom of darkness, we are born cut off from God, and on our way to hell already and that's why Jesus said, we must be born all over again (John 3:3) of water (that's baptism) and Spirit (that's Holy Spirit John 3:5), because water baptism is specifically for the remission of our sins (Mark 1:4) and in baptism, Jesus Himself comes and washes us from our sins in His own blood (Rev 1:5) so we will be spotless, glorious, sanctified, without wrinkle etc (Eph 5: 26 & 27).
In addition, and most importantly, during baptism INTO Christ's death and burial (Rom 6: 3 & 4), God will CRUCIFY our old man for us (Romans 6:6), which is our old Adamic sin nature, and that's when we are truly born out of Adam and born again of God, by water (baptism) and Spirit (H.S.) and we enter God's Kingdom (John 3:5). Without water and Spirit we CANNOT enter (John 3:5).
Thereby we have changed Masters and Households; instead of being in Satan's control & household and service, God adopts us into His family by Holy Spirit of Adoption and we even have an inner witness of the fact that we are His true sons/children (Romans 8: 15-17), because we are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus and water baptism when we 'PUT ON CHRIST' (Gal 3: 26 & 27) His righteousness; and God delivers us OUT OF Satan's kingdom of darkness which we were born into the first time through Adam, and translates us INTO the kingdom of His Son (Col 1:13). Also, during baptism; IN HIM we are circumcised with the circumcision WITHOUT hands (God does it for us), by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, through the circumcision of Christ (Colossians 2:11-13). All of this makes us into a JEW INWARDLY, because circumcision is not of the outward flesh but inward (Romans 2:28 & 29). Circumcision is of the heart in the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26, 11:19). All of the above causes us to be BORN AGAIN OF GOD in baptism into and through Christ the Way to the Father (John 14:6)
Baptism is specifically for the remission of our sins (Mark 1:4) so that having been washed INSIDE, we can then receive the gift of the Holy Spirit according to (Acts 2:38), because God gives His Spirit to those who obey Him (Acts 5:32). The washing of regeneration (Water baptism) is what saves us in conjunction with the renovation of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5) for as Peter confirmed, baptism now saves us...through Christ's resurrection (1 Peter 3:21), so we MUST be born again (John 3:3) of water and Spirit to enter God's kingdom (John 3:5).
You will be told by others that you can be saved merely by faith - it is not so. Look up the scriptures I have given and you will see that I speak truth. Baptism saves us (1 Peter 3:21, Titus 3:5) because we are washed in Christ's blood (Rev 1:5) and our sins are remitted (Mark 1:4, Acts 2:38) as long as we have a truly repentant heart for our sinfulness. Without repentance and water baptism, we are still in our sins! We can't go to Heaven still in our sins.
He who believes and is baptised shall be saved. (Mark 16:16)
