Gift ideas for Mother's Day??? Anyone?

emmadoll

I need some gift ideas for mom, the woman who has everything. Please do not suggest flowers or candy... that's boring. Thanks!

Answer
How about a gift certificate to a spa, if you have the money like a 150 dollar one so she can get a nice massage and maybe a new hairstyle.

If money is tight how about a year magazine subscription that has something to do with one of her hobbies, like a gardening magazine, cooking, baking, home decorating, etc. You can get a year subscription for about 20 dollars and its thoughtful and not just like flowers that are gone in a week..a magazine subscription keeps giving. You can right in the card something cheesy like I got you a gift that will be there the whole year just like you are for me :)

Or something for around the house a cappuccino maker? A new set of pots and pans? George forman grill? New dishes? New bath towels? A new comforter set? A maid service for a month so she doesn't have to clean. New vacuum cleaner? A gas gift card, or grocery store gift card, a few books on things shes interested in, a series of a tv show she likes on dvd, (lol ok I think I'm giving you my list of what I would like- maybe it can spark an idea though..)

hope i helped :)

Okay so my boyfriend is 17 and he's going to be an uncle and I'm trying to think of a creative cute gift to give him when his niece is born in a few weeks and I can't think of anything and need some help. The weird thing is that me and his niece have the same name, so I'm trying to think of something really special that has to do with that as well. Thanks!

New Baby gift?

chrissytim

my aunt just had a baby boy--her third. what would be a nice gift besides clothes and a scrapnook that she and the baby could have and cherish and use forever??

thanks :)
and i want it to be unique..not like a blanket, or pillow

something no one would really think of getting....

Answer
try having a diaper cake for him.

it's like a layered cake made of three or five different sizes of diaper covered with baby's clothes.

bottom layer: XL size diaper. let's say a shirt that will fit for a 1 year old boy with a cartoon character design.

second layer: L size diaper. with a shorts that fits for 9 month old baby boy in different colors.

third layer: M sized diaper. with blankets and baby toys around.

fourth layer: S sized diaper. with bibs or towels around in different shades

a top layer with baby bottles and pacifiers.

designing your diaper cake is easy, you just have to be creative and patient and have all the things that you needed for it.

Gifts for an 8 month old?

Airica **M

My son will be 8 months old at Christmas and I would like to start picking things up here and there. Problem is, I am not sure what to get for him at that age. What did all of your babies play with and get interested in at that age? Did they actually unwrap their gifts? Could you tell they were excited even though they didn't fully understand the situation? Just wondering! Thanks!
Minnie - I LOVE Christmas! To me, the waiting is torture so I always start early..normally I run out of hiding spots...good thing Madden is so little..dang now I'm wondering about next year. LOL
Amber - Thanks! That was really helpful! I already know most people will get him clothes so I'm trying to do the toys and stuff. I'm like you, I love to have presents under the tree....I wish I could put it up now.
Nutter - It's true, everyones babies are different. Hopefully my little guy is trying to walk at Christmas..that would be a JOY! He actually rolled both front to back, and back to front yesterday so I am still pretty excited!
Kayti - I'm so jealous you are doing outdoor stuff, my little guy can't be outside much this summer so we are going stir crazy in here. Looks like he will be getting noise makers, seems to be the one thing everyone is agreeing on.
Donna - That was pretty snarky and well quite frankly, you annoy me.

Answer
My daughter was 9 months old at Christmas and she LOVED unwrapping presents. Of course, grandma kept giving her Christmas presents early, so she got some practice :). She liked her sit-to-ride push toy, and she still uses that. She also likes blocks, a ring-stack thing, tub toys, and a little play kitchen. A lot of people got her clothes, because they are just stinking cute, and she liked waving those around on Christmas morning and getting inside the boxes they came in. Because I like presents under the tree, I wrapped up some of her favorite snacks, too. And a coloring book, which she hasn't really cared for until now. She also got a lot of board books and a glow worm, and a pretend remote control and cell phone. They were a hit and still are.

They really don't need a lot for Christmas. Mine would get something, and then play with it before opening another. So it took a while to get through the presents.

Good luck!

Xmas gifts for 8 month old baby boy?

randomness

I'm trying to figure out what will be the best gifts for my son. So far we got the lol zoomers speedway, laugh and learn move station, and baby laptop. Any other ideas on some good toys he will use for awhile? He likes buttons and cracks up at silly noises (like most babies his age lol) we have clothes and books picked out already so just some fun educational toys for the upcoming months. Thanks!

Answer
When our oldest son was that age he loved his Stride to Ride Lion. They can push it like a walker and later ride on it. He loved it until he was around 2 and now our youngest son loves it just as much.

We also have a crawl and cruise jungle for our youngest son.

Another favourite is their activity table. It has numbers, letters, shapes and colours to help introduce little ones to them.

What's a good (lucky) gift for a pregnant Chinese (Taiwanese) woman?

Colin T

My sister-in-law is from Taiwan, but lives in America. She recently became pregnant, and I know her well enough to be sure that she would appreciate a traditional Chinese acknowledgment of some kind. While I can find lots of Chinese traditions about baby gifts for children, I can't find anything about the mother except how she should behave during the pregnancy. What, if anything, would be a good gift for her before the baby is born?

Answer
A bamboo plant is considered Lucky - as is the number 6.

Which year is this that the baby will be born in? You could get her a stuffed animal of whichever animal year the baby will be born in. It might be the Rat in 2008. Maybe you can find a "cute" stuffed animal rat?

Rat

The rat applies to anyone who is born in 1912, 1924, 1936, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, 2032, and 2044.

The rat was the first animal in the Chinese zodiac cycle. The rat is usually considered to be aggressive, ambitious, power-hungry, suspicious, generous, honest, quick to anger and prone to spend freely. All of those who are born under the sign of the rat are charming, imaginative and generous to the one they love. However, those born under the sign of the rat are frequently hot-tempered and overly critical. They are normally suitable in sales or as a writer, publicist or critic. Rats have to avoid Horses but get along well with Dragons and Monkeys.

Hope I could help!!! I'm sure anything special for her would be a nice gesture too - certificate to a spa, restaurant, baby store?

Jewish Mothers: what sort of gift would be appreciated (or not) by a jewish mother who's just had a baby girl?

hannah

I could buy baby clothes, but I'd like to get something that would also be culturally sensitive as the mother's whole family is keenly Jewish. They are not Orthodox (for example, she chooses to wear trousers and t-shirts), but her baby has a jewish name and will be given a jewish rite of passage. I apologize in advance if I've worded anything inappropriately here; I'm learning.

Answer
It sounds to me like a respectful, well-stated question!
Here's a link to a site with over 200 gift items for Jewish babies and children:
http://www.thesourceforeverythingjewish.com/search.asp?SKW=03BabyandChildren&CAT=Baby+%26+Children
You might consider getting a small jewelry item, a Jewish lullaby CD, or a hamsa to hang in the baby's room....
This site can be a bit pricey, but at least it will give you good ideas.

Baby name meaning miricle. ?

Emma Nelso

I am writing a story where the main character has the devils sons son. The legacy (in this story) is that te Satan line has two males and then a female so she was supposed to have a female but it is a male.

I need a male name that means Miracle. Not gods blessing as the character believes god hates her as she turned to the devil for help. Do you know any names? I was thinking Ellijah but I don't know what that means.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Answer
Elijah means "My god is Yahweh" Yahweh is another name for the Christian/Jewish god.

Most of the names i found where actually for females. .
perhaps you should just let her have a girl.

The only male name i found was Milagro. Most anything that comes up from a search really means "Gift" not "Miracle".

girl names meaning Miracle:
Alazane
Karishma
Milagros
Nessa

Need non-toy gift ideas for a 3 year old boy?

kmmckim

Well I had been planning to take my 3 year old son to pick out some fish for his birthday but today my mother brought him home with two fish in a fully equipped fish tank. So now that my awesome birthday idea is ruined I need some ideas for really special birthday presents. I want this year to be special for him because he is going to be a big brother next week. His birthday is still a few weeks away but I wanted to take him out to pick out something really cool shortly after the new baby is born to let him know he is still special and important. We don't want just another toy we want to find something that is just for him that he can really enjoy. Any ideas would help a lot.

Answer
Um how about an art easel complete with art tools, a themed desk/table for toddlers(like spiderman), a trip to the zoo or aquarium could be fun also. A high end wagon with a canopy shade and all, a powerwheel car. I'm sure you'll come up with something great!

Need help with a memorial gift?

hapymom03

My nephew was born too early and did not make it. This April would have been his first birthday. He means a lot to our family and I wanted to get something to give my brother and his wife to honor that day. So if I had this saying...You touched our hearts the day you were born in your own endearing
way.Happy First Birthday to a
Forever Angel.
Love (then our names and the date)
engraved on this...http://www.thingsremembered.com/webapp/w...

Would that saying be good or any suggestions? Keep in mind the cost of personalization is $3 a word from the place I am looking at.
The star idea is great, although that has already been done for him. The tree idea, he has one in their yard. As for the March of Dimes I am raising money now and doing the March For Babies this month.

I know it is not his first birthday that is why it says to a "forever angel"

It will be painful for them that day weather I give them anything or not. She has a count down on her myspace page till his "first Birthday"

And yes she is moving on they have twins 4 months old still struggling to come home from the special care nursery.

Okay well I had mixed feelings before and you all had so many different views I went with this....http://www.thingsremembered.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_9951_597759_-1_1?fcref=

Then had them engrave "Forever in our hearts, then his name and then We love you"

I know nothing I do or don't do and that day will make it harder or easier! Thanks for all the imput

Answer
As a mother who lost a baby, I disagree with those who say not to remind the parents of the baby's death. It's something a mother can't possibly understand until she has experienced it. The worst thing one can do is to pretend like the baby never existed. However, every parents handles it differently. Some choose to honor their baby's birthday (like I do), while others try to put it in the back of their minds. I personally would love your idea, but I'm not your brother or sister - in - law.
Another idea would be to make a donation to the March Of Dimes in your nephew's memory.
I wish your family well on what will surely be a bittersweet day.
*EDIT* Again, as a mother who has experienced infant loss, thank you for raising money for MOD. I'm sure your brother and his wife really appreciate it.

has anyone given birth recently at white memorial in east los angeles If so what gifts are they giving baby?

Rocio Ruiz

I want to know what are the gifts the baby and the mother get when they are discharged.

Answer
I haev never given birth at that hospital, but I have given birth four times. We were usually sent home with the cap the baby wore (you are supposed to leave the shirt/gown and blankets), a pacifier if you want, any remaining formula from the open case, any remaining diapers and wipes from the open packages, any remaining sanitary pads and such from the mother's maternity package, and a diaper bag supplied by a formula company with samples of formula and sometimes other small products (a Huggies diaper, a Playtext bottle, varies depending on which company and what partners have donated items to be included) as well as a lot of coupons. Other than that, we never got "gifts".

Ideas for baby gifts for a baby GIRL?

Q. Two of my sis-in-laws are due in 3 days (September 4th). For each new baby in the family, we send gifts to the mom/baby when the baby is born. One of my SILs is having a girl. She lives nearby and requested clothing for her gifts, so I got her that. My other SIL lives out-of-state though and hasn't told anyone what she's having. If it's a girl, it will be her 4th girl, and if it's a boy, it'll be her 2nd boy (she currently has 3 girls and 1 boy). I have no idea what she wants/needs. What should I get her if it's a GIRL? Having 3 girls, she already has SO many clothes. I have ideas of what to get her if it's a boy, but I'm LOST if it's a girl! She already has tons of burp clothes, etc. since she has 4 kids already. Any thoughts?!
Also, ideas for things that are easy to package up would be great. I'm going to be mailing this! :o)

Answer
You could get them the hooded towels with a matching hand mitt shaped like a duck which is gender neutral, also a lot of babies take pacifiers which should be thrown out after a few months so maybe some of those. Maybe a gift card to a spa for mom so she can relax when she gets home or even a box of chocolate covered strawberries sent from edible arrangements delivered to the hospital, this was my favorite gift I received in the hospital.

What would u buy for your 4 month old baby girl for her first Christmas ?

Answer
Take some photographs of her for later, when she is old enough to understand what's going on around her.

Right now, no gift is appropriate for HER.

is it mandatory for guest to bring gifts to a baby shower?

urdirtylit

my friends are planning my baby shower for my baby girl do they have to bring a gift?

Answer
Is this your first child? If not then that is tacky. Baby showers in general are tacky because you expect others to buy things for your child that should be your obligation. I dont do baby showers, but if you really are hard up for gift just ask that people bring diapers and wipes. those are what you will need the most.

Oh do I have some games.....these are straight off my website's Baby Shower Guide....

Baby Shower Bodysuit Decorating

Bodysuits are one thing the new parents will need lots of!! A great activity is to have guests at the baby shower decorate bodysuits!! Purchase enough bodysuits and fabric paint for each guest attending and set up the "creation station" in a location that will not be needed during the rest of the shower!! (This will allow the bodysuits to dry without them having to be moved.) When the shower is over...offer to wash the custom bodysuits for the new parents, making sure to follow the directions on the fabric paint bottles. For large baby showers....purchase a wide range of sizes so these creations will be a part of baby's first full year!

Suggestion: Cover the table being used with a plastic drop cloth covered with an old tablecloth that is no longer needed (the one with gravy stains on it from last Thanksgiving??). 5 Tubes of 1.25oz Colored Fabric Paint should be enough to decorate 10 Bodysuits (when used sparringly).

_____________

Letters to The Baby
As the guests walk to the table where the gifts are being placed.....have a special station set up on the side of the gift table. At this station have cute baby themed stationary laid out with some nice pens. Beside the stationary have a card out asking each guest to take a few moments to write a note to the new baby. When the guests have finished writing their notes, have a tray or basket provided to place them in. Once all the guests have written their notes....the hostess can then choose one or two, at random, to be chosen for a prize (this could be your shower's door prize). When the shower is over these notes can be placed in a scrapbook or album to be enjoyed by the parents now and by the baby years down the road. Sweet and sentimental and sure to be treasured by the new family!!!

Suggestion: I would advise that these notes not be read in front of the crowd....your guests may not want their letters shared aloud for all to hear. These are their special words to baby and the new parents so allow these words to be just for them!!
________________

Scavenger Hunt For Useful and Unique Baby Items

After the gifts have been opened....surprise the parents with a scavenger hunt for these fun and unique items!! Before the shower you will want to hide these items in rooms that won't be accessed during the party. Have the clues written on parchment paper rolled up and secured with ribbon. The first clue will be handed to the parents (or mommy) the remaining clues will be hidden with each item as it is found.

Item #1: Clue"In the crib you thought baby would sleep.....but there will be many nights you'll be up with baby watching TV. In your comforting arms she (he) will want to be cuddled. Underneath this gift you can both be huddled. There is something for baby and something for mom. Something for daddy....and something for all." (now the hostess will add a clue revealing where the gift is hidden ie: hidden in a room at the top of the stairs, take a sharp left, open the door, it is there!!). Hidden in this room could be a Moses Basket with A Soft Throw blanket and A DVD of a television series mom or dad really likes and a CD to dance with baby to that mom or dad likes!!)

Item #2: Clue: "There are so many items that the book did not heed.....so many items you will not know you need!! At 2 in the morning baby's teeth seem to come....or those irksome gas bubbles that just aren't any fun! A delictable dessert.....not edible at all....has been prepared for your baby....has been prepared for you all. It is full of those items you will definately use....and some extras of items you won't want to lose." (Now the hostess will add a clue revealing where the item is hidden...ie: "Go to the kitchen and open the door that leads to the place where our food is stored." Hidden in the kitchen pantry will be a diaper cake loaded with all those little items mom and dad will need....but not neccesarily think of until baby is fussy at 2 am (gas drops, infant tylenol, teething gel, soothing bedtime lotion, extra pacifiers, extra batteries for the mobile and other baby items, tooth and gum cleaner, all those little neccesities that you can think of that will be used by mom and dad!!)

Item #3: Clue: "This final gift is one for the future....he (she) may write books or learn to tie sutures. A beginning of something that could grow into more, a gift of possibilites....of opening doors." (hostess adds a clue as to the location of this gift.....ie: "On the livingroom mantel there has been hidden an item that is attached to the visable ribbon." (the hostess could have ribbon that appears to just be shower decoration ribbon.....but is, in truth, ribbon cascading down the mantel (blue or pink?) that is actually attached to an envelope that is hidden behind something on the mantel like a picture frame.) What will be found is a savings bond that can be put towards baby's education or future, in general, that will be eligible for baby to cash in upon it's 18th birthday (or the like).

***This is just an idea of a scavenger hunt type of game. Make up your own poems/limericks. Have fun....this will be something truly different at the shower and a great way to gift items to the new mom and dad. IF there are people who couldn't attend the shower because they were otherwise engaged or lived too far away...see if they can maybe contribute some of these items!! Maybe Aunt Ethel and Uncle Gerald in Hobokin can put some money towards the savings bond.....cousin Randy can buy the CD of dad's favorite band's Greatest Hits...and Grandma Elouise can contribute towards the diaper cake!! A great way to have those absent in person....but present in spirit contribute to this celebration!!***

Answer
Best Baby shower gift for a gender reveal xmas baby shower:

Three Tier Diaper Cake: decorate it with baby items but rather with Christmas related items. A red ribbon for the first tier, a white ribbon for the second tier and a green ribbon for the final tier. Donât forget to top it off with a Santa plush doll or a Frosty the snow man doll.

Remember, you want to fuse these two events at every corner and with every possibility.

How to have X-Mas cheer in your baby shower:

These two events should never clash or compete with each other instead they should work together and add to each other. How? Well, Iâm going to come out and say it. You should have a gender reveal party. Why you ask, because of the following reasons:

Gender Reveal Parties have no set decoration style. They are gender neutral so it fits perfectly with traditional Christmas decorations and itâs color scheme of red, white and green.

Your Baker can frost the gender revealing cake with red, white and green frosting. This will conceal the pink âits a girlâ cake or the blue âits a boyâ cake at the same time playing to the X-mas color scheme.

It is hard to compete with Christmas so why fight it. Revealing your childâs gender to your friends and loved ones with an X-mas cake will only add to the Christmas cheer.

Gender reveal parties are co-ed friendly and can be adapted to other events and celebrations.

Mix in some Christmas inspired baby shower games, an X-mas decorated diaper cake and baby shower invitations with a bit of Christmas cheer in them and you got yourself a stupendous X-mas baby shower!

How exactly do you play baby shower bingo? And what kind of little prizes should I give out for the winners..And what are some good ideas for finger food at a party?

Answer
For a gender reveal you should have a vanilla cake and dye it blue (boy) or pink (girl). Cover the cake with icing so you can't see the inside. When you cut into the cake...SURPRISE!!! You should give out gift cards or baby bottles with pink or blue Hershey kisses with a copy of the ultrasound picture and a balloon tied to it. Finger food-Goldfish, mini sandwiches, grapes, chips, cookies, etc.

Congrats on the shower!! and GOOD LUCK!!
