What setting do I set the shoulder straps on an infant car seat to bring home 5 - 7 lb. newborns?

gift for preemie baby on Preemie Boy Layette Baby Gift Basket | Unique Baby Gifts
gift for preemie baby image

Ivy has Tw

The straps are currently in the middle position. Do I need to put them in the bottom position for the newborns? How old / what weight were your babies when using each of the shoulder strap positions?

It is the Graco Safeseat, and it is twins, so they will be less than 7 pounds each when I bring them home.

Answer
It really depends on the size of your child - length/height will also impact where the straps go in addition to weight.

My twins were 5 lb 1 oz and 5 lb 4 oz - their seats were on the lowest setting when we took them home (around 3 months, we were at them middle setting, 6 months the highest setting and in rear facing convertible seats just before 8 months). Ask your hospital about a "car-seat test". They did this for our twins, they put them in the seats, adjusted the straps and hooked them to oxygen monitors to make sure that they were safe before releasing them. They make sure that the baby can breathe comfortably at the angle of the car seat.

At the hospital that we delivered at, if our twins did not pass, we could not take them home in the infant carriers and would have to get something called a "Car Bed" to take them home. It was available in the gift shop if we needed it - it is for preemies and babies too small to safely sit in a carrier. Thank goodness both of our little ones passed and were able to come home in their car carriers.

Congrats and best wishes!

ETA - I have seen your questions before and it seems like you are someone who likes to do their research etc . . . just in case - here is a picture of a car bed and a link to more info on the Car Seat Test sometimes called Car Seat Challenge:

What store carries a good selection of the smallest preemie clothes (1-3 pound size)?

kathij43

My friends just had a baby who weighs 1.5 pounds. The baby will be in the hospital for 2 months. I know clothes aren't practical, but I want to give them a couple of sleepers/hats anyway, in addition to some other things. If you have been in this situation yourself, what are some other gifts that you appreciated or could have used, either for yourself or the baby? I'm already planning on offering housecleaning help and meals.

Thanks!

Cute name for handmade baby items boutique?

gifts for baby made in usa on Baby Gift - Made In The USA Romper - For Counsel
gifts for baby made in usa image

Kathleen E

I need to come up with a cute, crafty name for an online boutique i'm trying to start. I started with Crafty Creations, but would like some other ideas. The stuff I will be selling is all handmade, a little vintage, cute stuff. All baby. Any suggestions?

Answer
"Made by Mom"
"Mother's Hands"
"Mother's Hand"
"Loving Hands"

and, according to what area of the country you are in, you might try using a term like, "Momma" or whatever is used there, but if you plan on going into sophisticated areas of the country, I wouldn't use such a term. Since this is an online boutique, it might be useful to think about how people will google the name or try to find it some other way. So, if I was looking for some handcrafted baby items, I would google the words baby and handcrafted, or handcraft. Something to think about.

"Lovecrafted" or Love Crafted

For what it's worth, I used to be a sales rep in the gift industry, with a baby line sometimes. I saw the names of tons of shops all over the USA, but mostly the southeast. And I think it's a great idea for you to ask for other peoples' thoughts, because I saw a lot of really bad names out there.

And pleeeeeease don't use the word, "special" in the name.

Should I give a gift to a day care teacher?

Mihaela-Ta

Is there any "unwritten" rule that as a parent one should give some sort of gift to his kid's day care teacher? And if yes, what would be appropriate and when (is it for Thanksgiving as a THANKS for taking care of our baby, is it for Christmas (what if she does not celebrate this holiday?), is it for New Year ...). I am so confused because I came to USA not so long ago and I don't know how things really work here.

Answer
It is not required to give gifts for holidays, but it is often appreciated. Christmas is when most parents will give gifts. It does not really matter if the person celebrates the holiday, it is simply a time when many parents show their appreciation for the care their child receives.

I work in a daycare and always appreciate the gifts parents give. It lets me know that they really do appreciate what I do for their children. Many parents give gift cards, others candy, etc. It is not the expense of the gift, but the thought behind it. One parent got me a really cute teachers ornament, I still have it on the tree today.

If you are going to give a gift I would choose Christmas, other holidays are not typically gift holidays. As a suggestion most teachers do not want coffee cups, soaps, candles, or cheap candy. One of the best gifts I ever saw(for another teacher) was a poem about a mother appreciation for the care her baby received, it made the teacher cry, and she still has it in her room to this day. It is the little things like that which are really appreciated.

What should I get my mom for Christmas?

Abby

My mom is usually busy with work but she is vegan and loves to cook, hang out with friends and drink wine, or throw girls parties. Any suggestions?

Answer
Two solutions.

1. Get her a set of spices, cookbooks, cooking utensils, or a gift card to the grocery. Maybe one of those cute wine glasses?

2. Something from Bath & Body Works. They are having tons (yes, tons!) of deals going on right now, such as 5 Hand Sanitizers for $5. Another awesome deal is Buy 3, get 3 free! (Lotions, scrubs, shower gels, etc.) In fact, I just bought my momâs & 2 sisters gifts from their website last night, (not to mention a lilâ something for me, too) for just $26.07! Cheap, right? Each of their gifts was only about $6, and this includes a soap, hand sanitizer, and hand sanitizer âcaseâ type thing. I was really impressed! These deals end today, though ï

Hereâs a link to their website, if you like this idea- http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/home/index.jsp

Plus, get promo codes here- http://www.retailmenot.com/view/bathandbodyworks.com

Hope you like these ideas, happy shopping & happy holidays! ï

Opening gifts at a baby shower when you have a baby registry?

gift experience baby on Baby's Photo Shoot Plus Prints, Sydney city, inner west to greater ...
gift experience baby image

Anondovy

I'm a little torn on this subject. I'm constantly reading that it's proper etiquette to open gifts at your baby shower however what if you have a baby registry and some people have sent the gifts to your home? If some people bring the gift and some send it to your home and you open the gifts, won't the ones that send it to your home feel left out?

Ladies who have had a shower and have had a baby registry please comments and help me based on your experience. Thanks!

Answer
Usually the only presents sent to the house are from people that can't make the shower.
I wouldn't take the gifts to the shower, maybe if the shower was at my house I would open the presents at the shower. If I could wait that long.
After you open the presents at the shower say your thank you's and say thanks for all the presents that were sent to the house.

What to do my husband and I are wanting to adopt my sister's baby we don't have a lot of money for lawyer?

trisha

My sister is having a baby it will be here sometime in august of this next year. She wants me and my husband to adopt the baby. I just don't want her to be able to take the baby from us later in life. Please tell me what I need to do.

Answer
What you do is stop being so damn selfish and instead of trying to take your niece or nephew away from its mom, you help your sister parent the child that she's giving birth to!

Please pass the following information on to your sister:

EITHER PARENT OR ABORT!

DO NOT ABANDON YOUR CHILD TO ADOPTION!

Seriously.

Adoption Truth @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOZGwqHVnKs

Myths told the unmarried mother @ http://gift-not-choice.tripod.com/myths-about-asfa.html

What you should KNOW if you're considering adoption for your baby @ http://www.cubirthparents.org/edd/index.php?id=1

If you know you don't want it now, then get an abortion before it's too late, because if you abandon it, you're screwing it up for life - and probably yourself too. If you don't want to abort, then please do not allow anyone pressure you into abandoning it.

Also, don't listen to anyone suggesting that open adoption is the way to go - it is almost never legally enforceable! Many parents have lost access to their children due to "open" adoption promises. Please read http://lifemothers.com/thewall.html and www.bringperihome.com/ and www.exiledmothers.com/adoption_facts/wish.html and http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100709095305AAjeM4z and http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100830162150AAi478W before listening to the hype.

Taken from Nancy Verrier's book, Coming Home to Self: http://www.nancyverrier.com/self_book.php

For the adoptee every day is a challenge of trying to figure out how to be, although he probably doesn't understand the difficulty this presents for him. It has been true his whole life and, therefore, feels normal. However, it takes a great deal of energy and concentration. And it never feels quite right. He never quite fits. Therefore he feels as if /he/ is never quite right.
(pg 50)

Abandonment and neglect are reported to be the two most devastating experiences that children endure - even more devastating then sexual or physical abuse. That's why some neglected children do naughty things to get attention. Even though the attention is hurtful - being yelled at, hit, or otherwise harmed - it is better than neglect. /Anything/ is better than abandonment. Abandonment is a child's greatest fear. For adoptees, it is also reality, embedded in their implicit and unintegrated memory.
(pg 102)

It is sometimes difficult to spot grief in children. After all, it isn't as if the child sits in a puddle of tears his entire childhood. As one adoptee said, "Of course I played, laughed, sang. Do people think that if you're not sitting in a corner with your head on your knees, you are not sad? I had happy times, but the sadness was always there, even when I was having fun."
(pg 117)

Please, if you're not gonna abort your baby, then make damn sure you parent it. Read http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2009/03/breaking-silence-on-living-pro-lifers.html - it's by someone who made both choices at different times in her life.

What should I get my friend who lost her baby?

sweetbby93

My friend lost her baby this morning, he was only 6 hours old. I want to send her and her husband something, but I don't know what to send that can possibly make them feel any better. Any suggestions?

Answer
right now a card... it won't make them feel better, but still good to send... nothing but bringing their baby back will make them feel better.

the best thing is to not forget over time... in the beginning it is raw, nothing matters, no gift, no card, no favor, no flowers... nothing matters. but a card will get tossed in a pile and looked at in a month or two and appreciated.

and mark your calendar for this date next year... send them a "thinking of you" card...

if they're Christians, a few days before Christmas give them a little angel ornament, w/ wings or a gem in the color of the birth stone... something related to the baby - the month's gemstone, flower are good ones.

We lost a baby almost 7 years ago... my sister is the best at remembering - maybe because she was supposed to be the Godmother, I don't know ... but every year, we get something, last year it was a silly little ceramic bear w/ a purple hat (violet being Feb's flower, and amethyst the gemstone) - looked like it was from the dollar store!! But it was probably my favorite gift!! one year it was a refrigerator magnet of a violet, another she actually gave the gift to our living daughter, it was a purple giraffe that sang "Jesus loves me"

right now, if she's up to it... just be there and let her cry... don't say much dont say about getting past this, baby's in a better place... just be there and listen, don't attempt to answer the teary "why" questions... just say I don't know and cry with her.

sorry I went on so long... sheesh, took me back!!

My best friend is due with her baby girl any day now. What gift should I give her in the hospital?

Lindsey H

I want to give her and/or baby a gift when they are in the hospital. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could get her/them? I am the baby's godmother.

Answer
Diapers are always a nice thing to get. Its a wonderful thing to remember the mother in all this. Try to put together a basket of goodies for herself. Lotions and bath beads are awesome in the first few wks. She'll love you for it!

My in-laws are asking me what gifts they should buy for my baby girl's 1st birthday. Any suggestions?

Answer
Is there anything you NEED for the baby that you can't afford to get? Or something that you plan to get in the near future for her? If you are okay finacially, then open a savings account for her. Let them know that maybe an outfit and a small deposit into the savings account would be perfect.

You don't need a gift, but bringing one is always thoughtful and classy. Personalized gifts are best. I like things babies can't outgrow, like personalized signs for the nursery. They have nice ones here: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/

Christmas and Gift buying ?

gift for baby jesus craft on Le Saint Evangile De Jsus-christ Selon Saint Jean (French Edition ...
gift for baby jesus craft image

lisa r

It amazes me how people will go into debt buying gifts. What's the purpose ? Your credit gets ruined if you fail to pay on time or end up getting laid off or whatever. The day after christmas everthing you spent boo koo bucks on just went 50% to 80% offf ! I find all this gift buying for the retailer not the consumer. Its obsurd. The best gifts of all are the ones from the heart. Look at what it has done all over the world...the children that feel left out because they dont have a gift under a tree if they have a tree at all on christmas morning. This Holiday as we created it in tradition has created heavy hearts. Is that what Christmas is supposed to be ???????

Answer
I am on a pension, I cannot afford to buy much and I have a really large family. Throughout the year, I buy small gifts when they are on special, Also I make items of all different shapes and sizes using my sewing machine and crafts. Each fortnight out of my pension cheque, I put $10 into my Christmas Bonus Club Account, which gives me $260 just before Christmas as well.
I also bake heavily in the week prior, and make up celophane bags of home made sweets, and biscuits.
A neighbour who has little, I give a small hamper each year as well. Every cheque, I buy an item to put in it.
I also put a nice purchased gift for a needy child under the tree at my church.
Every person gets a gift, and it is given with love. I might add, I do not go without, and I do not owe any money to anyone.
It isn't necessary to drown in debt every year like so many do. Commercialism, greed and 'keeping up with the Jones', spoil what should be a wonderful celebration about the birth of baby Jesus.
It is getting harder to bring our children up to have decent values while this goes on around them.
I agree with you, and I hope you have a very merry Christmas.

Speaking of Recalls, Did you know that Old Navy recalled several Baby items?

Q. They recalled most of the their stuffed animal toys that have rattles in them, due to the button eyes.

I bought the bunny online for Christmas for my baby since it matched a hat and onsie she had, and as soon as I got it I thought the buttons could cause a choking hazard, so I never really let her play with it (she was never fond of it anyway since it was too big for her tiny hands) Mainly it just sat in her car carrier next to her and she never even paid any attention to it and now today I just got an email about the recall that includes pictures and model numbers.

http://oldnavy.gap.com/customerService/i...

Just thought you guys may appreciate knowing this especially, if you shop at Old Navy.
Okay, let's try this again since the link did not work the first time:

Also just a reminder that magnets that can become dislodged and swallowed are very dangerous. I've been seeing a lot of toys with magnets just glued in (like letters for the fridge) at discount stores lately. Those aren't allowed anymore and certainly shouldn't be used around kids under 3.

miss melia

I need a gift for a baby shower, but the parenst already have everything they need. What is somethign i could give that would be unique?

Answer
One of the most unique gifts that I received for my first pregnancy was a hospital bag. Someone bought a good size bag and put shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothepaste, toothbrush, baby lotion,etc...... That was so nice. When I got home from the shower, I put it in my overnight bag and did not have to worry about packing those things. It was a life saver and I am still using it 3 years later. For my next pregnancy, I went into my bathroom closet and pulled it out.

Is it a girl or boy? I have some more unique things if I know what the sex is.

How much to spend on a baby shower gift?

JEE

Three of my friends have baby showers this summer and I have never attended one before. I recently got married and all 3 of these friends attended my bridal shower and wedding, and they each spent around $200 on gifts. Should a baby shower gift equal around the amount that they spent on my wedding gift? Or should I be spending more or less?

Answer
If they are your true friends, price shouldn't even cross your mind. Go to Babies R Us and you can ask an associate for help. Or if you really don't know what to get, a gift card can be an option, maybe $100 each...just a thought. It just all depends on what you can afford for all three of your friends.

If money is an issue, you can be creative and make baskets for your three friends (since all three are held this summer). Go to a craft store than go to Walmart, a baby can never have too many diapers, onesies, bibs, etc.

I would like to give my kids a "present from the baby" when they get to see him for the first time. I want something simple but enjoyable. My kids are 6, 3 1/2 and 2 years.

Answer
There's always the "older sibling" t-shirts. The other thing that they would probably find a lot of fun would be a camera. You could get them a cheap disposable camera and a little photo album. Let them take pictures of the baby and of them with the baby, then print them for them and make them a little album.

If you are invited to the baby shower, should you get a birth announcement?

silly_prin

I think it is tacky to not send a birth announcement to someone that was invited and gave a gift at a baby shower. My mom doesn't think it is necessary because none of her friends kid's have sent birth announcements even though she has been invtited to their showers.

Answer
I have been to about 8 or 9 baby showers and never have received one-- I thought that tradition had been pretty much dried out? Maybe thats just around here (in Virginia)...

I'd like to get her something for hosting but she won't answer that part of my emails when I ask what she needs. I don't think she wants me to feel obligated.

Gift cards are always nice but you can also pay her back with hand made certificates that will probably be VERY much appreciated. Stuff like:

What are good games to play at a baby Shower?

katheriner

My baby shower is next week and the hostess wanted to know which games I would like her to have. I don't have any ideas! Do you?

Answer
1. Baby Bingo. (Everyone fills out a bingo sheet with gifts they think you will get. As you're unwrapping gifts, they mark it off their sheet if they guessed correctly. First one to have a whole line of gifts checked off wins.)

2. Put a special gift in the center of each table. The person whose real b-day is closest to the baby's due date wins the gift.

3. Purse games. I.e., whoever has the most lipsticks in their purse wins. Whoever has the heaviest purse wins. Whoever has a specific collection of items (such as a stick of gum, hair accessory and a coupon) wins. Etc.

I think I would have to say it is knowing that my best friend's newborn baby boy got to go home from the NICU!

Answer
You kinda sorta just changed my views on the best thing. :) It was my new camera and expensive perfumes. Now,I'm sure it's my little brother is having so much fun with his toys and our new kitten and that makes me happy. We haven't fought all day. And we usually constantly fight. And my family's on the way. And you made me realize it because you said it was your best friend's baby and that made me think. Thanks!

What kind of volunteer work is offered at hospitals for 15-16year olds?

Riley

I know different hospitals may offer different options, but a general idea will help.

Answer
When I volunteered at my local hospital, we had a lot of options. Ranging from Gift shop (like a cashier), Mammography clinic (greet patients and show them to dressing rooms), Nicu ( work with babies), Help desk (Give visitor passes), Coffee shop, Laboratory, Book cart ( Go room to room offering books).
There really is a lot of options.

My mom is 34 and my dad is 41. They really don't have any specific likes or hobbies. However, I know that my mom doesn't like body sprays, she prefers perfumes, and scented lotions. My dad likes 80's music, but he already has a lot of CDs and vinyl records. Feel free to think of something completely different from what I have written. Thanks in advance :)

My husband is hard to buy for, but like most men he likes food. I bought him a Christmas box of three types of sausages...one elk, one buffalo, one deer. I think it comes with cheeses too. He also likes boxed chocolate candy that is soft chocolate in the middle. Tin of Danish cookies. I guess you can say I am giving him a food Christmas.

Gift certificate to a clothing store, or a fast food place.

DVD movie/movies.

Have you seen the BIG tin of three different types of popcorn already popped. Great gift. Put a big bow on top.

I wanted to give my mom something special for christmas this year to show her how much i love her. I was thinking of buying a journal and writing a nice quote on each page. There would be one page for every day of the year and she can only read one a day. I would give it to her on christmas but should the first day start there or on new years? What do you think of this idea? Any suggestions to make it better would be awesome! Thank you! =)

Answer
That's a really sweet gift made from The heart! I think she should read her first quote on Christmas day when u give it to her...that way the following Christmas she can start a new journal from you....make it a new tradition ;-)

How can I cope with my mother in law honing in on my pregnancy?

gift for unborn baby image

I love my

My Mother in law, while very generous and loving, is also bothersome because she tries to get too involved with my pregnancy and acts like this baby will be in her care as much as mine, which is not true, as I will be a full time Mom. It bothers me because I've looked forward to being a mom my whole life and it feels like she is trying to hone in on my experience. She calls it "her baby". She talks like she needs an extra of everything for herself (a nursery in her house, a car seat base for her car etc.) She has bought almost everything we will need for the baby, which I am grateful for, but also annoyed at because I wanted to do some shopping too. She calls me daily to ask how "her baby" is and then goes on an on about what a great Mom she was and how wonderful it will be to take care of my baby. Then she gets kind of kooky and talks like my unborn baby tells her things (she's joking but it's annoying), making it sound like she knows my baby better than me. How do I deal?

Answer
Just be grateful that she cares for you and the baby she is not unusual and if you are ever stuck she will be the first to help you When she comes next give her a hug and join in the fun stuff about what baby is saying etc I wish my mother in law had paid for a lot of the children's things that we had to buy over he years. You will see what I mean I hope you have a Wonderful time with your children we did with our four . You are giving your Mother in law a gift of the most wonderful thing a mother can do to bring a baby in to this world . bless you.

What does everyone think of the ideas of my story?

Basically Annabelle is one of the oldest souls in Rocky Falls, Alaska. In a past life, she moved from Bulgaria to Alaska when she was ten. She is the daughter of the very first king of Rocky Falls (StâncoasÄ Falls) He decided that the poverty in the town would be solved if he split the town in half, one being poor and the other side being rich when really this made matters a thousand times worse. In revenge, Evangelya's mother, a villager living on the poor side who was also a witch cursed Annabelina and her father, banishing them from the rich part of North Rocky Falls and forcing them to reside in the poor part. However the spell backfired as she wasn't a very strong witch and she ended up cursing her unborn baby too, created a devilish version of Annabelle.
A powerful witchcraft family moved from Bulgaria and overtake the kingdom. The family's power is air and each of the family have a different power. They are most powerful at dawn but can become more powerful if practiced overtime.
There is Alesa (Alice) daughter of Marko (Mark) and Rayna (Regina). Her power is the power of the mind. She can make you think or see what you like. There is Damnyan (Damian), don of Marko and Rayna. His power is the ability to hear from further away, say about 300 yards. There is Emilya (Amelia) daughter of Marko and Rayna. Her power is her smell. She can catch a scent from 300 years and know exactly what it is. There is Iliya (Elijah) son of Marko and Rayna. His power is to transport himself within 300 yards of somewhere. There is Marko, the head of the family. His power is the gift of knowledge. He is able to either give a certain knowledge to someone or take it away. There is Nikolay (Nikolas) son of Marko and Regina. His power is to see what other. Angelina is the only one who is strong enough to kill Evangeliya, the cursed changeling, who created disease and illness across the globe as revenge.

So what do you think and what ways can this be improved? :)

Answer
Charlotte. First off, I would suggest you read this piece out loud. You have an unbelievable number of errors and I think if you do that you will understand what I mean. It's very distracting and makes it difficult to focus on the story itself. Secondly, who is "Evangelya" or her daughter? Before mentioning her in the first paragraph ( In revenge, Evangelya's mother,), we readers did not know who these people were. Can you explain what the purpose was to put different names in parentheses, when you continued to use the original name going forward? (Marko (Mark) and Rayna (Regina)). And did you mean that Damnyan was the son of Marko and Rayna or is he really the don? I'm sorry, but this one is really too difficult to comment on your idea. Sue

baby gift ideas for 9 month old image
Q. I'd really like to hear from moms of babies especially but do answer if your kids are older too :). Could you say how old your child is too please. I have an 9 month old and I'm lost for ideas lol.

Thank you!

Answer
My newborn is being "gifted" with some of the stuff he needs, bottles, his bouncy seat, a small set of linkey toys to chew on.

My 3 year old is getting(hopefully, we haven't bought anything yet)
the 2nd tinkerbell movie
a table and chairs
a tinkerbell barbie if they get restocked
some clothes and pajamas
memory
candyland

Her grandparents got her
an art easel
Elmo's restaurant

Neither of them get a lot for xmas since they have their b-days right beforehand(my son will be arriving on friday via c-section, lol) and my daughter's b-day is 12/14.

When she was a year old, we got her a laugh and learn table, a pop up tent and a dora couch that unfolds into a bed, she still uses everything but the table, but she used that to walk the day after she turned 1, lol.

Good luck!

Does anyone have any father's day gift ideas for a new daddy?

Something my 7 month old baby daughter can give him?

Answer
For father's day we always make a book for dad. The first year it was "Me and My Dad." I gathered up a bunch of pictures of my son and his dad and put them into a simple story about the two of them. Then I printed the words onto a paper with a cute border, taped the pictures on, and took it to Staples and had it laminated and bound. Here's what the pages said:
Cover: Me And My Dad
Page 1: My name is Michael
Page 2: This is my dad, his name is Roman, but I call him Daddy.
Page 3: My dad was the first person to hold me after I was born.
Page 4: Daddy and I like to play together (a few pages of playing pictures)
Page 7: Sometimes we would play so hard we would fall asleep right where we were.
Page 8: Sometimes we would take naps together.
Page 9: When I was little I used to suck on my dad's nose.
Page 10: One time, my dad wrote a song for me. My favorite part went, "And the toys and the rings will dance around, and around, and around, and around."
Page 11: Daddy puts all of his change in my piggy bank
Page 12: When I grow up I want to play pool and golf, just like my dad.
Page 13: The End, Happy Father's Day June 20, 2004.

HUGE HIT! We've done one every year since, its a great tradition.

I would like to get something for her that will hopefully have some meaning down the road, any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Answer
well you gave her the gift of life that's the biggest gift of all, why don't you write a letter to her for when she turns eighteen( or whatever age you feel she ready to read it) tell her about all the hopes and dreams you have for her, describe what she looks like and how you look forward to the many wonderful years ahead, tell her how you feel and what kind of mother you want to be, basically just write whats in your heart, put it in an envelope and put it somewhere where it cant be lost or destroyed, i think it would mean so much to her.

What are some good things to do for your bod and baby in early pregnancy?

I just found out that I am pregnant and the nurse told me that I was about 6 weeks. What are some good things I can do now that is good for me and the baby? Should I start taking vitamens? Are baths okay? What kind of things should I avoid?

Answer
Get a good book like "what to eat during pregnancy" & start a new diet full of fresh fruit and veggies,
i took Vitamin substitutes but this in no way should be your only source of vitamins and minerals- they should be a boost or a bonus ontop of an excellent diet.....
Drink lots of water (good but also aids in preventing stretch marks)

AND a big one is stay fit, look after your body by exercising regularly, pre-natal yoga and aqua aerobics and good ones to do. you have to remain fit for the birth and so you can cope through the last trimester-
lol, you dont want to be one of those pregnant ladies you cant do anything for herself & you need to be fit to better cope with labor-

The thing about Baths is confusing........
I did it, they say not to #1 belief is because water can enter the vagina and cause infection, which is bullcrap because your allowed to swim (its recommended you swim during the last trimester to prevent posterior position of baby) and yes, it has been proven that water does not get near the womb and case infection
#2 is the heat, this is why they say dont have spa's - My rule of thumb was havinng a bath slightly shallower so that my tummy wasnt entirely under water and having a 'warm' bath, not a hot one-
The heat causes your blood to pump faster & therefor increase the blood flow to the baby & they're unsure what this does BUT its better to be safe-

Avoid: Alcohol, smoking, drugs, passive smoking, VitaminA (dont take a vitamin high in VitaminA it can cause birth defects), avoid heavy lifting, heavy exercise, straining, dangerous acts (eg. climbing a ladder when you could fall), amusement parks etc.

Otherwise treat it as a gift, and remember you want the best start for your baby and that starts now when its in the womb but dont bubblewrap yourself, its not a disease & you can live as you have been

what kind of gift do you give if you are attending a baptism?

G's

One of my good friend and his wife just had triplets. Baptism is this week and i have no clue what kind of gift you get them. Also, is it a gift for each one?

Answer
You Don't and Babies ? being baptised ?
Tip-toeing through this topic can be difficult because the arguments for and against it can become quite theologically deep. There are different opinions held by different Christian denominations, each claiming to have the clear teaching of scripture. But there are basically only two responses to whether or not it is alright to baptize infants: yes and no. Let's briefly look at both.

Baptizing infants has been practiced for a very long time in Christianity. Within the scope of this practice are denominations that insist that the baptism itself brings the infant into a salvation relationship with God. On this, CARM strongly disagrees. Baptism does not save anyone. Baptism is a sign, a covenant sign, of identification with the Christian gospel. On the other hand, there are denominations (usually Presbyterian) that baptize infants not for the purpose of saving them, but for covenantal relationship. The logic used by these groups is basically as follows: 1) infants were circumcised and entered into covenant relationship with God in the Old Testament (Gen. 12-17); 2) circumcision did not save the child; 3) the Abrahamic covenant under which the infants were circumcised is still valid since the Abrahamic Covenant is called the gospel in Gal. 3:8; 4) the Abrahamic covenant, which is still valid and which is the gospel, included infants, and therefore infants should still be included in the same covenant; 5) we see evidence of whole households being baptized in Acts (Acts 16:15). Therefore, at least some of these households had to include infants, and a good Jewish convert to Christianity would not exclude his infant children from covenantal relationship with God.

In contradiction to this, those who are opposed to infant baptism usually mention the fact that there are no explicit instances of infants being baptized in the New Testament. If anything, we are told to believe and be baptized (Acts 8:13; 18:8). They ask how can an infant believe so he/she can then be baptized? These questions are a worthy concern.

Both sides have good arguments for their position, answering the other's objections, and presenting their case. Nevertheless, one's presuppositions will govern how he/she sees the argument. But, one thing needs mentioning: since there are good arguments on both sides and since there are good and godly Christians on both sides of the argument, we need to be gracious to those who differ in this issue. Notice what it says in Rom. 14:1-5,

"Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. 2 One man has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3 Let not him who eats regard with contempt him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. 4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind."

Notice how Paul allows us to have differences of opinions on various issues? His goal was to have unity in the body of Christ and at the same time to allow for differences on debatable issues.

Finally, the position of CARM is that it is okay to baptize infants if the parents of the infant are God-fearing, Bible-believing Christians who honestly see infant baptism as a covenantally faithful act -- not that it saves the child. On the other hand, if the parents do not believe it is proper to baptize their child, then it is not okay for them to do it.
