gift for preemie baby image

The straps are currently in the middle position. Do I need to put them in the bottom position for the newborns? How old / what weight were your babies when using each of the shoulder strap positions?
It is the Graco Safeseat, and it is twins, so they will be less than 7 pounds each when I bring them home.
Answer
It really depends on the size of your child - length/height will also impact where the straps go in addition to weight.
My twins were 5 lb 1 oz and 5 lb 4 oz - their seats were on the lowest setting when we took them home (around 3 months, we were at them middle setting, 6 months the highest setting and in rear facing convertible seats just before 8 months). Ask your hospital about a "car-seat test". They did this for our twins, they put them in the seats, adjusted the straps and hooked them to oxygen monitors to make sure that they were safe before releasing them. They make sure that the baby can breathe comfortably at the angle of the car seat.
At the hospital that we delivered at, if our twins did not pass, we could not take them home in the infant carriers and would have to get something called a "Car Bed" to take them home. It was available in the gift shop if we needed it - it is for preemies and babies too small to safely sit in a carrier. Thank goodness both of our little ones passed and were able to come home in their car carriers.
Congrats and best wishes!
ETA - I have seen your questions before and it seems like you are someone who likes to do their research etc . . . just in case - here is a picture of a car bed and a link to more info on the Car Seat Test sometimes called Car Seat Challenge:

What store carries a good selection of the smallest preemie clothes (1-3 pound size)?
kathij43
My friends just had a baby who weighs 1.5 pounds. The baby will be in the hospital for 2 months. I know clothes aren't practical, but I want to give them a couple of sleepers/hats anyway, in addition to some other things. If you have been in this situation yourself, what are some other gifts that you appreciated or could have used, either for yourself or the baby? I'm already planning on offering housecleaning help and meals.
Thanks!
