Any idea where I may get patterns for making dresses besides Spotlight in Singapore? Thanks.?

TAN

Answer
I put in for free pattern downloads and this is what came up . If you have some patters around hang on to them and use some of them to make a new outfit for yourself by making a very reasonable priced Duct-tape dress form. You will have to have help in making this but it will be an exact copy of your body so the dress you make will be a perfect fit.

Baby shower hostess gift?

MommyOfThr

My good friend offered to host a baby shower for me, and it's this Saturday... I'm trying to figure out what to get her as a way of saying thank you. I don't have a lot of time, so I can't get anything personalized or anything like that. We just moved here last July, so I haven't known her for very long to know all of her likes and dislikes. She is a Scentsy consultant (wickless candles) so I don't think candles or things like that would be of much use to her. Before here we lived in Turkey (military) and I have a few Turkish made rugs that I haven't used, so I thought about giving her one that would match her decor. Would that be an ok gift? I'd like to get her something else as well, I just don't know what. I've never done this, so I'm not sure what would be appropriate. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Oh! I wish I was giving you a shower! :-) I would totally love to have a rug from Turkey as a gift!

Would it be an "ok" gift? NO...it would be the most fabulous gift ever. I don't know why anything would be needed in addition but you might consider a pretty dish in the colors of the rug that would look nice near a lit candle since that's what she's into.

Is it okay to say "Gift Cards are also okay" on my Babies R'us registry?

PrettyinPi

Should I mention this? How can I word it better? I think I registered for less than the amount of guests that are expected.I dont need anything else and I think the gift cards are a great alternative... also just incase ppl have trouble finding the items...
Thanks guys!

Answer
Gift cards are greatly appreciated! That's what I would say. Besides I found that when I was registering I was so concentrated on the baby things that I didn't think of all the things I would need after the 1st year and on. They grow so fast. Congrats on your New Year's miracle!

Need ideas for moms 60th birthday party!?

CountryAvo

ok my moms 60th b-day is in november,,, I have the money to get a hall to have it in and make some food but not all. Is it rude to ask the people that I am inviting to bring something even though it is a surprise party for her. If not how do i go about wording it so it does not sound corny or pushy.,... I am not good at these things. HELP!!!!

Answer
Have big 60's themed party! Like disco ball and afros, peace sign necklaces all of that stuff. That'll be awesome! Also, here's a website for 60th birthday party planning!!

http://www.chiff.com/entertain/60th-birthday-party-ideas.htm

Also, by tellin your guests its a surprise bday party. I would think they would want to bring a present. How about maybe suggesting gift cards for her?

If you mean by having them bring food, just write on the invite that if they could please make a favorite dish of theirs and bring it to the party.

If you need more info you can email me. GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING!!

My Grand-mom's 60th birthday?

Delhington

The perfect gift for her

Answer
A grandkids photoframe. My Mother in law is 60 and she loves this:

http://www.amazon.com/Tom-Co-Grandkids-Photo-Frame/dp/B000VNM1B2

Also, she does get cold a lot. So a sweater isn't out of the question. A shawl and/or mittens is a bit granny-fied though.

She likes to listen to CD's and read books, so maybe a boarders or barns and noble giftcard?

My mother is 66 and she likes crystal things to sit around her house. Maybe some candle stick holders?

Both 60 year olds like to shop at Walgreens! My mother would buy EB5 face cream there and my Mother in law would probably stock up on birthday cards or Christmas decorations there.

Hope I've helped!

How to get a free gift card for making a baby registry at target?

flyersfan8

Last week I got something in the mail like a little registry guide from target with a coupon that said if i registered there (which i already was anyway lol) and printed out my registry and took it to target i'd get a free $20 gift card. my question is how do you get that coupon??? My mom wanted to do it too (make a different registry and stuff) and just give me the gift card to use for my baby. does anyone know if there was something that you sign up for online, like a free offers thing ( i sign up for lots of them now lol) and thats how i got that or do you get it when you sign up with target.
thanks so much :)
no you receive a coupon for that that they have to scan when you bring a printout of your registry...sorry if my question seemed unclear...

Answer
I took a printout of my registry to the Customer Service desk and that's where they gave me the gift card.

what were the three gifts of the wise men to baby jesus?

murphy8084

Answer
Frankincense, Gold, and Myrrh.

Frankincense and myrrh are both resins -- dried tree sap -- that come from trees of the genus Boswellia (frankincense) and Commiphora (myrhh), which are common to Somalia. And in the time of Jesus could be found in southern Saudia Arabia.

And, of course, gold is gold.

Why did the three wise men bring gifts to the Baby Jesus?

Q.

Answer
This is actually a misunderstanding, there were alot more that just 3 people probably more around 300 people.

The wise men were in the east. The star was in the west, and they followed it. They came west, not east. My question is this: How in the world did they associate a star with a king, and how did they identify it with Israel? All I know is that in that section of the East, the people had a prophecy given by Balaam, which is recorded in Numbers 24:17. (Remember that old Balaam gave this prophecy concerning the nation Israel.) âI shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.â
Notice that the prophecy says a Star shall come out of Jacobâthat is, the nation Israel. And a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel. The star and the sceptre go together. That is the only place I know where they are put together in prophecy in the Old Testament. The wise men in the East had that prophecy, and so they came out of the mysterious East seeking a king.

Baby shower gift for dads?

jellybean

What's a good shower gift for a dad? It's not a couples shower but I was told my gift theme is "don't forget dad". I thought about just getting a gift and then bringing the dad a case of beer but I don't think that will fly. It has to be something I can buy in the store. I was going to get a masculine diaper bag but the ones I want are only avaiable online and I need this by Sunday!

Thanks for your help.

Answer
A basket of his favorite snacks for when he's at the hospital! I do this for all of my friends husbands when they're about to have a baby. It's a hit! Think about 30 hours of time where you don't want to leave and you're hungry. So i do instant coffee packets, crackers, candy, some soda, bottled water Etc...

Good luck!!

Ideas for baby shower gift?

creyesange

i don't get furniture when i give shower gifts. i can't afford it. this upcoming baby shower is my future niece or nephew. the problem is my brother {the father} wants to know what the baby is, but the mom does not.

the usual shower gift i get is 3 outfits. 1 for newborn, 6 months and a year, and a blanket.

the problem is that with all other baby showers i've been to everybody knew what they were having, and i can get really cute stuff for girls, or boys. but honestly i don't really like the stuff they have for neutral babies.
not that i mean to be critical, but, well, for example if i shop for a girl i can get little cupcakes and kitties in tutus with crowns etc.
or if i shop for a boy theni can get dogs playing baseball, or dinosaurs, or little monsters or a million other stuff.

but the stuff for neutrals i find to be limited. there aren't nearly as many options for them.

what should i do? any ideas?
to the person who suggested making a blanket, that sounds like a great idea but it's already taken. my mom makes blanket and even matching pillow.

Answer
You can get a 5 pack of plain white onesies. They work for both boys or girls and my sister has two or three for her son which she loves. She uses them with plaid shorts that she can't find a top to match and for pictures where the outfit needs to be a solid color.

You can also get a bouncer. Bouncer are a great gift because they are SO helpful! My sister got one that's baby blue and has green and yellow stars on it. It would work great for a boy or girl and it was only $25 at Wal-Mart. You can probably get it even cheaper on Black Friday or right before Christmas. You can also get a Bumbo chair, which won't be used until the baby is about 3 or 4 months old but they are helpful as well. Wal-Mart has them for $35, but with Black Friday and Christmas coming up I'm sure they will go on sale. If you have a Once Upon a Child nearby they also have them there brand new for $23. They come in pink, blue, and green. The green would work for either a boy or girl.

does anyone know of any good baby shower gift for twin boys?
my sister in law is having twin boys and i am not sure on what to get her...also, i went to a baby shower one time and there was a lady who gave the mom to be a present every so often and each one had a tag on them with something to do with the gift in the box. i remember the first one i think it was something like..good morining mommy its time to wake up, and the gift inside was a baby moniter..its time to get me dressed mommy and it was clothes..has anyone ever heard of that? i need ideas on what too do please help! REMEMBER THEY ARE TWIN BOYS!
gosh..so i want to have some ideas on the thing where a give her a gift threwout the day...but i cant think of how to start it off..it starts of with, goodmorning mommy its time to wake up..what would i give her then?

Answer
Google a Diaper Cake (diapercake.com) to get a mental picture of what I am talking about here. There are many different types to look at.

Buy the diapers (two packs)
Baby pins (different colors to hold the together)
Small baby items (rattle, booties, nail clippers, pacifiers, etc)
Baby blankets (two-one for each)
Something special for the mother to put in top

Just fold and lay the diapers out and fasten together (you are going to fold long ways) - put baby blankets inside and whatever else you can come up with to stuff the diaper cake with. Roll it up so you have the bottom layer.

Put a diaper on top of the bottom layer to cover the inside surprises.

Top layer is smaller of course. Stuff with things for the mom to be.

Once you have it in two layers you can fasten the small baby things on with baby pins all around the cake in different places. Get some blue and yellow ribbon to finish the decorating.

For the very top of the cake get a yellow rubber ducky. Write a special note for the mom and place it on top in blue to set nest to the yellow ducky.

This will be a conversation piece of the party and the mom to be will have a wonderful time pulling out the contents.

Use your imagination when decorating. Get some family members to go in with you on this since the cost can rise having to stuff it. That is why I suggested two blankets for the bottom.

Good luck.

BEST baby shower gifts?

Sahara

My very best friends in this world are having a baby! I am so excited! They have always done a lot for me, but this past year has been the worst year of my life. I want to make sure I get them an EXCELLENT gift. Something that would make them cry wouldn't be too bad either! :)

The dad plays guitar, loves UK Wilcats and Green Bay Packers. I am going to have a custom guitar pick made, and I've got the baby a few Wildcat outfits.

What is something I could get momma?

Any ideas?

Answer
Something homemade is always special, creative and nice. Why don't you make a mommy and baby gift basket with some goodies for mom and the baby? You can find instructions here and they also list ideas of what to include: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/gifts-for-new-moms.html. Also cute is a diaper cake where you can add stuff for mom and baby, too. You'll find instructions for that easy craft at the a.m. link, too.
If you do not want to make something yourself, some mom and baby jewelery might be the right thing. You can get matching bracelets for mom and the baby.
Or maybe a mom and baby frame and a gift certificate for a photo shoot.
I highly recommend you to browse the website 'best-baby-gifts.com' since they have lots of cute and creative baby gift ideas and I am sure you'll find something suitable there.
Hope this helped, good luck!

HOMEMADE GIFTS FOR MOM AND DAY ! CHRISTMAS ! please !?

Q. I want to make a homemade gift for my mom and dad for xmas ...what should i do ...please help ! Please ! Thanks !

Answer
Smart idea home made gift btw thats also what I'm doing. I wrote my mom a poem witch only took a few minutes to write but its very nice. For my dad I was going to maybe draw a picture, make an ordament, sculpture out of clay, you know the kind of stuff they say they'll remember for ever. Also think of what your parents do for a living or like to do or admire a lot. Like if your dad builds stuff build him something. Or your mom likes the ocean you could draw a picture of the ocean or even get some sand and use it in your own creative way. Just think about your parents and what you think they'de truely and deeply like. I hope I helped you at all and good luck with your project!!

What is a good gift idea for my niece who expecting her first baby-first baby of the whole family.?

~~Foshizzl

She just told everyone and I want to get her something

Answer
Since you did not mention any budget it is hard to give you some detailed advise. Since a new family and baby need tons of things...

You could make her a gift basket or a diaper cake. Diapers are always needed and you can include other items, too. You can also include some babysitting voucher, she'll surely love to have some free time once baby is there!

Just browse this website giving you tons of various baby gift ideas in all price ranges, maybe this will help: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com
They also have instructions on how to make diaper cakes or very cute diaper animals and it's really easy to make them.
They do not sell anything but help you to find something suitable for your needs and circumstances and give you advise. So it is worthwhile to have a look. Anyways, I find it very helpful.
And if you are looking for soemthing for the mom only, they also have cute gift ideas for expecting moms.

Good luck

I would like to give them a gift that kinda connects my boyfriend, his brother, and the new baby boy but I'm not sure what to get. Any ideas at all would be appreciated! Thank you!

And good/unique suggestions out there?
For the previous baby, I crocheted a full layette set for them myself. I can't do that again!

Answer
It is hard to find a baby gift that is unique, because most babies need similar items. However, you can always explore ways to personalize the baby gifts to impress the new parents.

Baby shower gifts---?

Blessed1

Do you remember your most creative Baby Shower Gifts?
How about the best ones?
The most useful one?
If you do how about you feel us in on what you think is the most creative-best-and useful baby shower gifts.
What did you get the least of when you had your shower with your first child?

Answer
Most creative.. a friend bought me a "Mommy Hospital Care" suitcase. It's a business her friend started.. this adorable suitcase had EVERYTHING in it that Mom and Baby will need in the hospital.. less my own personal clothing. It was awesome and I used almost everything in it.
Best gifts that got a lot of use:
Wipe Warmer.. my son loves getting his diaper changed with warm wipes.
A gift basket filled with.. diapers, wipes, toiletries, Mommy essentials, such as pads, epifoam, witch hazel, petroleum jelly, guaze, a nursing bra.. everything you need to take care of yourself and baby when you get home from the hospital.
My pump.. my Mom rushed out to buy this item 2 days after we came home from the hospital.. and my breasts got EXTREMELY ENGORGED.. my son wasn't perfect at latching yet and I needed them drained. A good pump is a must if you are planning on breastfeeding, especially if you are going back to work.
Sleepsacks.. my son has 4 of these wonderful wearable blankets.. I LOVE these.. they replace a blanket for sleeping
and greatly reduce the risk of SIDS.
Fisher Price Papasan Swing.. my son loved this as a newborn and still does.. he's 5 months old.
Baby Einstein Discover and Play Activity Center.. he started using this at 4 months and loves it.. of course, you don't need this item initially though.
We got a lot of gift cards, those also came in handy when we needed to simply restock on diapers and supplies.
I can't say I got the least of anything.. I had 3 showers, 1 was a co-ed shower because my husband and I work at the same company, and we got everything and then some.
Best Wishes!

Cute Simple Ideas for Baby Gift Box/Basket..?

Tabs

Alright so my sister in law is pregnant with her first child..yay for her! :).. and has finally put her registry up.
I have already figured out what my husband and I will buy her, but I want to make her sort of like a gift basket/box.
Now I have some ideas in my head and from online, of course, but I wanted to know what sort of things others do.
Do you neatly put them in a decorated box or basket, and if so how do you decorate it & arrange everything.
I've never made an actual gift basket, I've always bought a thing or two and put it in a pretty gift bag.
This time I'm wanting to do a gift basket or box so I can stuff more in there.
Ideas are appreciated and websites/pix of boxes/baskets/ideas would be awesome too :)
Thanks so much!

Answer
I recommed you to browse this website where they give you ideas of what to put in a homemade baby gift basket and also give you tips and tricks how to make it and how to arrange everything.
It is always nice to go with a special theme, so if your sister in law has some favourite character such as 'Helly Kitty' or if she likes cats or ducks or owls (I think you get the idea) you could center your gift basket around this theme.
Use lots of ribbons to decorate and maybe also personalize the gift basket with wooden letters or simply add a door plate with baby's name. Choose a basket your sister in law can use later on to stack the diapers or take a Bumboo baby sitter and fill this up.
It's all explained in details and with photos here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/newborn-baby-gift-baskets.html

Oh, and if you feel comfortable to babysit, do not forget to add a babysitting coupon (booklet). This is the best gift ever (I am a mom of 3 and know what it means if you have a few minutes on your own when stressed out...).

Good luck, hope my tips helped.

Loss of an infant baby girl quotes/poems?

Donny

My friend just lost her two week old baby girl due to liver/kidney problems... I'm having a tough time figuring out what to say to her right now, I can't imagine the pain she is going through... I would like to send her some uplifting poems/quotes about the time she did spend with her beautiful baby...
Thank you everyone..Today is the funeral, and these quotes have helped. I'm going to go look at your blog now... I can't vote up for your comments because I'm not a level 2? Sorry, and thanks again!!!

I will lend you, for a little time,
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief.
You'll have his lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
In search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come
To take him home again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.

Sweet Child

by Unknown Author

God made a sweet child
a child who never grew old
He made a smile of sunshine
He molded a heart of pure gold.
He made that child as close to an angel
as anyone ever could be
God made a Sweet Child
and He gave that dear child to me
Then God saw His wonderful creation
growing very tired and weak
so He wrapped the child in His loving arms
and said, "You my child I keep"
But now my Sweet Child is an angel
Free from hurt and pain
I'll love you forever, until we meet again
So many times I have missed you
So many times I have cried
If all my love could have saved you
Sweet Child you never would have died.

When God calls our children

by Unknown Author

When God calls our children
to dwell with Him above,
We mortals sometimes question
the wisdon of His love.
For no heartache compares with,
the death of one small child.
Who does so much to make our world,
seem so wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to His fold.
So He picks a rosebud
before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so He takes but few.
To make the land of heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult
still somehow we must try.
The saddest word mankind knows
will always be Good-bye.
So when a little child departs,
we who are left behind,
Must realize God loves children.

new baby sayings and quotes ..... please help?

proud momm

I have a baby shower to attend this weekend ... as a gift, in stead of the typical clothes and blanket type thing, I am making a coupon book for my friend ... this is baby number 3 for her, so its going to be a lot of work in the beginning .... the coupons will read things such as, good for one home cooked meal, good for one afternoon free of your children, good for a trip to get groceries on your own ..... that kind of thing .... BUT with each coupon, i would like to put a little saying .... a new baby saying ... she is having a boy ................ if you have any baby quotes/ sayings, please do share. thank you so much

Answer
Aww what great idea for a gift.

A new baby is like the beginning of all things wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities

A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on. Never will a time come when the most marvelous recent invention is as marvelous as a newborn baby

A baby is born with a need to be loved - and never outgrows it.

The worst feature of a new baby is its mother's singing

Life is a flame that is always burning itself out, but it catches fire again every time a child is born.

Give a little to love a child, and you get a great deal back.

No one likes change but babies in diapers.

Every child begins the world again

Your new baby is the tinest thing in your whole life that you will cherish forever.

Babies are such a nice way to start people.

A baby is an angel whose wings decrease as his legs increase

A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for.

People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one

Record all the noises he makes so later you can ask him what he meant.

Gift ideas for mom traveling with kids?

falcios

I have a friend who is traveling overseas with her 3 kids and I would like to get her a going away gift. Any ideas as to what I should get her?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
I traveled to Korea once with my 1 year old to see a military friend. The flight was soooo long. We had a lay-over in OKC for 3 hours and then we hopped on Korean Air. That ride lasted another 17 hours (give or take). So my advice is to make her a customized gift bag (a small bag - due to carry on rules) just from you. You could include a travel pillow for her (and because she can get pillows on the plane she can even use this 5.99 pillow for one of the kids just in case they sleep with their necks drooped), sani wipes for the kids (these are about 9 bucks for 150 or more wipes) - these are essential - especially going overseas and even more so with the various viruses going around now, some aspirin for her, depending the age of the kids-teething tablets or baby bliss gripe water (hyland's tablets are the best because they calm the tummy and soothe teething pain), plenty of snacks (ie goldfish crackers), little welch's 100% apple juce bottles, the little bottles of bottled water (especially bottled water for going overseas), 3 small boxes of 5 crayons (you can buy these at any dollar store) 3 huge coloring books (I say the huge ones because the younger the child the more pages they color and the more new pages they want to color - keeps their mind off how long the flight is). Be careful not to include to many items because with 3 kids she's already going to have carry on luggage. And let me tell ya, getting kids and carry on thru checkpoints now-a-days is a mother's greatest feat. LOL (smile). I hope this helps you out some. And notice that I didn't include anything sharp or any thing that would violate faa policy. When getting gifts for airplane trips be careful to visit the airline's website to see what can be taken on board the plane and what can be carried as cargo underneath.

Gift Ideas Plz???!!!?

What should i get my mom for mother's day? She tells me she doesn't want anything, but i want to get her something. What do you suggest? (oh yeah, im only 16 so it should be something under $100 plz!)

Thanks!

Answer
I would definitely try etsy.com! All homemade stuff, so it's sure to be unique, and many things are VERY much under $100. Gorgeous jewelry, etc. They even have a section specifically for gifts for mom. =o) Only thing is ... you'll have to order through paypal or a credit card. I don't know if you have access to those or not. =oP

Otherwise, did you think of making her a nice meal? Your Mom may say that she doesn't want anything, but she would probably appreciate not having to do something she normally has to do, like clean the kitchen or cook dinner. I don't know her, but I know for my mom, I'd run her a nice bubble bath while I cleaned the kitchen & the living room up. Then I'd set the table nicely and make a nice meal.

You can easily make a nice meal by purchasing some ready made meats from your local publix. All you have to do is put them in the oven! Make a box of pasta roni & some of those green giant steamed veggies (they're made in the microwave) and get a loaf of that garlic bread in your grocer's freezer, and voilà! A "gourmet" meal for Mom, with no hassle to her. Don't forget to clean up the kitchen afterwards, too. =o)

Hope this helps!

Good gift idea for mom?

Cramer21

Its my mothers birthday today. I'm about to head out to the mall and see what I can find. Anybody got any good ideas? I already plan on some flowers.
Hey Joe, eat shit you loser

Answer
As a Mom.I can tell you that on my B'Day I really like a more personal gift. Something that would be related to a hobby I enjoy or a gift cert. to a day at a spa or spa treatment. Just think of what your Mom does as herself, not as a Mom. Gift cert. for makeup or a hairdo is good too. You have Mother's Day to buy a "mom gift' & even Christmas. So that's why i say that a more personal gift is best on a B'Day.I hope I've been some help to you!

Christmas gift ideas for my mom?

Sarah

So it's a tradition that my dad, my sister, and I spend a whole day at different stores to buy my mom Christmas gifts. The problem is that she's always reluctant to tell us what she wants. (she's sefless) We really want to give her something special because she works hard throughout the whole year. I'm sure we'll find stuff to get her when we're shopping, but having ideas beforehand would be good. So, any ideas on what I should get my mom for Christmas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Gift certificates.

Food makes good Christmas gifts. Items that can be found at your grocery store during December - they are in gift boxes and bags:

Tin of Danish cookies.
Box of chocolates.
Box of different types of cheeses.
Box of different types of sausages.
And many more.
All are in Christmas looking containers.

Have you seen the BIG tins of three types of popcorn? We have them at our mall. Great gift. Can also be given with a DVD movie.

Christmas center pieces with candles delivered from a florist or you can deliver yourself.

Answer
Barnes & Noble gift card, spa gift card, 2011 horse calendar, comfy pajamas and slippers... I am about that age and have a son in college, and that's what I'd like from him! Also, anything creative or handmade is especially endearing to us Moms. A card, a poem, a picture, etc.

Oops I spelled Nevaeh wrong, was typing too fast lol!!!

Answer
From most to least favorite, for each gender:

Girls:
Phoebe Estelle: 10/10. Two beautiful, classy, feminine, not-too-common names that complement each other wonderfully.
Matilda Grace: 9/10. I adore Matilda...it's strong, beautiful, and smart-sounding. Grace is a very common middle name, but still very nice.
Gabrielle Alexa: 7/10. I love Gabrielle...it's beautiful, elegant, and classy. I don't like Alexa nearly as much as Alexandra, but it's still pretty.
Sariah Nayeli: 6/10. Neither name is my style, but I like that they're both actual names with significant meanings, and the sound is pretty and feminine.
Adeline Delaine: 4/10. Both names are too modern for my taste, and the repetitive sounds strike me as awkward and singsongy, not cute.
London Skye: 3/10. This sounds fairly low-rent to me.
Peyton Leigh: 2/10. Peyton just sounds extremely ugly and unfeminine to me. Leigh is OK but bland.
Haelyn Nalani: 2/10: Haelyn is made-up and low-rent seeming. Nalani is pretty, though.
Serenity Neveah: 1/10. Serenity is nice enough, but Neveah is horrid...the only thing trashier than Nevaeh is Nevaeh spelled wrong.
Neveah Reign: 0/10. This is truly the bottom of the barrel. Is she a little gift from haeven? Rain or Raine would be marginally acceptable...Reign just isn't.

Boys:
Isaac Liam: 10/10. Both names sound very handsome and classy to me, and they flow well together.
Gabriel Michael: 9/10. I love both names...the only thing I don't love is that they end with the same sound, but that's just a tiny pet peeve of mine.
Elijah Amadeus: 9/10. Again, I love both names, just not the fact that Amadeus begins with the same sound Elijah ends with. That's very minor, and this is still an awesome, classy name.
Gavin Cole: 9/10. I adore Gavin, it always sounds cute, smart, and charming to me. Cole is not my style but it's OK as a middle name.
Malachi Armani: 8/10. Malachi is a wonderfully cool, dashing-sounding Biblical name. Armani is highly trashy IMO...it's just not classy to name children after designer labels...but as a middle name for a first name as great as Malachi, it could be worse.
Terrence Michael: 8/10. Terrence is a fine, classic name, and I really like Michael.
Noah Chase: 7/10. Noah is good. Chase always sounds childish and hyperactive to me, but it's a better middle name than a first.
Landon Michael: 5/10. Landon is too trendy for my taste, but not trashy. Michael is good.
Javien Lamar: 5/10. Javien is not my style, but at least it sounds masculine and potentially handsome. Ditto for Lamar.
Macarius (with any middle name): 4/10. The first name is too made-up seeming for my taste, but it could be worse. I'd just prefer Marcus, Marius, Matthias, Magnus, Marcellus, Maximus, Moses...

What is a good gift for a family with a baby?

futurenotf

I'm a Japanese girl in Tokyo, and I'd like to give something to my former supervisor in London.
The reason I'm going to give some present is he wrote a letter of reference for my graduate school application, and I got accepted thanks to his letter! I thanked him via e-mail already, but I still want to express my thanks.
I suppose the best present would be something enjoyable not just for the British man, but for his Netherlandish wife and his daughter (1-year-old girl who has just become 1 years old lately). So, it would be great if it can be both a baby gift and a thank-you gift. Plus, too expensive or too large one may not be suitable because I'd send it by FedEx or something like that.
I'd really appreciate it if you suggest good option(s).
Toys sounds good, but any ideas about something the adults can use?

should I bring a gift for a baby's baptism?

Lovelysing

I am going to a baby girl's baptism tomorrow. The ceremony is followed by a reception. I am not the godmother or good friends with the parents, just coworkers, should i bring a gift?

Answer
Nah, just show up, bring your congratulations and if you feel particularly moved, you might send a card of congratulations to the parents. (in the mail of course, polite adults do not hand over cards in person that say exactly what they are saying anyway. And send it before the ceremony)

The ideas of a bible are sweet, however, I don't think she'll be able to read it yet. Why not save that one for her Confirmation or other event in a few years, when she will properly appreciate the specialness of such a gift?

What are some free gifts for Mothers' Day?

I want to get my mom something for mothers day. any gifts for a 35 year old?

Answer
Homemade gift cards. Make a couple for each month of the year. She will then be able to give one to you each month of the year and you will have to do what the card says.
Ideas: 1. You can ask me to do all the dishes for the month.
2. I will do all the laundry for a month.
3. I will not complain for the entire month.
4. I will keep my room clean for the entire month.
5. I will mow the lawn, rake the lawn, work in the garden for the entire month without
complaining.
6. I will babysit when asked and do the best job I can.
You can think of 6 other things to make into cards. Doing odd jobs for your mother and not complaining about what she asks is the best Mother's Day present you can give.

Fathers day DIY gift?

okay. fathers day is coming! and i really want to make it special, he does so much for me and my mom and brothers. but i wanna make something that involves his hobbies: scuba diving, golfing, camping.
have any ideas/suggestions?

I wanna get him something too. something small. a gift card, etc. something not too expensive either, less than 25$ ??
help please! thnx alot!!
:D

Answer
Add to any gift a list of the reasons why you appreciate him. Perhaps have it inscribed on a wall plague.

Please don't get a joke card. In my 20+ years of working with fathers, it has been rare that a joke card that makes fun of his abilities is really appreciated.

I wrote this to "Dear Abby" for Father's Day, March 19, 2005.

APPRECIATION FOR JOB WELL DONE IS WHAT FATHERS WANT TO HEAR

DEAR ABBY: Today is Father's Day, so why don't we try to do more for dear old Dad than give him the usual greeting card that promotes the idea that all dads are imbeciles, followed by a collect call to see what he thought of the card. (Father's Day is the day when the most collect calls are made.)

We should treat our fathers the way we treat our mothers on Mother's Day and show them we appreciate them for being there. Yes, you probably tell your father all the time that you love him, but the minds of men work differently. Anyone can say "I love you," but as men, knowing that we are appreciated for a job well done is what really gets us teary-eyed.

Something else you can do -- especially you sons out there (but daughters can do it, too) -- is to make sure Dad has been to the doctor for a checkup, including depression screening. This can go a long way toward making sure he's here on Father's Day next year.

I wasn't raised by my father, but by a stepfather. Although we did not see eye-to-eye on many things, I would not be the person I am today if it were not for him. This man, who spent years climbing on top of heavy construction equipment to prepare the ground for many of the homes, businesses, roads and highways of Southern California, now finds it difficult to get into a car. Although none of the houses or roads have his name on them, they are all testaments to his life and the lives of men like him.

So today, let's do something extra for Dad, without him pulling out his wallet to pay for it. -- George McCasland, Overland Park, Kansas

***************************************************************
Remember, there's a lot of us fathers sitting in nursing homes whose children live too far away to visit. Contact an activities director about volunteering Sunday morning. Read a list out loud about why you appreciated your father.

DIY Baby Gift Ideas?

Jello

Hi~
My cousin is pregnant so I am planning to give her a small homemade present. Any simple but sweet DIY ideas?

Thanks!

Answer
Get a basket with a handle that stays upright (pretty easy to find this time of year) and put in a water bottle (the reuseable sports kind) and some snacks, a couple of baby blankets/burp clothes (you can make your own). A book or two and/or a book of stuff you have written/inspiration poetry you assemble/jokes, whatever.

And a list of local numbers like La Leche League, poison control, motherisk (drug safety during lactation)

and other resources that are useful for a new breastfeeding mom.

Because I can't tell you how many times new mom's sit down, get settled and then are really thirsty but they can't move *lol*. Eventually you learn to nurse on the go but until then its good to have a drink, snacks, remotes, burp cloths, etc all in one place.

You could also include:
*A nursing necklace (you want big brightly coloured beads, etc for the baby to play with instead of your other nipple or your hair)
*Onsies with funny breastfeeding slogans (but personally I find these annoying)

9 month old for christmas?

Chantelle

my little boy will be 9 months old round about christmas, roughly how many presents should i buy?

and suggestions for stoking fillers?
i have already got 5 :D, i have 2 more im definetley getting.

Answer
I number of presents always depends on how much you spend. Decide how much you want to spend and don't worry about the number of gifts.

Stocking-baby food, Cheerios's, age appropriate cars, stuffed animals, books, and anything else that is small.

What to give a 9 month old boy on his first Christmas?

Kelly

Answer
Word of advice: he is 9 months old. He doesn't know it's Christmas nor will he expect gifts. He won't remember this day, it's more for the family to get to see him experience it. Babies really enjoy the unwrapping part the most.

What does he like to do? Get him things he likes. Books, toys, coloring, finger paint, stuffed animals, clothes.

But seriously, don't spend tons of money. He doesn't know or care either way and he will quickly out grow everything you buy him.
