I'm almost 5 months pregnant and withing the next month or two I'm going to be having a baby shower. I was wondering what are some fun and unique games to play? And any other helpful tips, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are a lot. I have always thrown baby showers. My favorite is the diaper game. You get 4 or 5 kinds of chocolate and your melt them and flatten them in the diaper to make it look like poop. Then your guest have to figure out which type of chocolate it is. Itâs funny to see peopleâs reactions!
And the other game I play is who can suck a baby bottle the fastest. Either with water or juice, fill small baby bottle half way and let them go at it. I donât play too many games, I play about 3. And you can have the pin game that your canât say the word Baby, if so you can take the pin, or baby pin. And the one at the end of the shower wins. And how many m&m are in the baby bottle.
Make sure that you give prizes to the winners, because youâre thanking them for coming and giving you gifts.
I would also give them something as a gift as well. One year my sister was having a boy and I found little blue crosses that were made of glass with magnets on the back. I wrote his name and the year that he was to be born. Just a reminder of thank you for coming.

For my little cousin's 1st birthday, I bought her a toddler pool and a bathing-suit to go with it. Actually something usable (not just another toy) and ended up being Multi purpose. The Mom ended up blowing it up and putting it in her playroom she LOVED crawling in and out of it and playing with her babies in it. : )

You will probably need more than that. It will also depend on where you are visiting and where you are shopping at. If you are in a major tourist area, then you will need more. Don't forget about getting yourself stuff also. Not to mention snacks. Right now the exchange is about 490-500 colones to one US dollar. To keep it simple I just calculate 500 to 1. So, if you see something that is 12,500, it is about $25. If you are getting stuff from gift shops in tourist areas, it can be pricey. But, welcome and Pura Vida. Enjoy your trip.

How old are you? Your mom is being hesitant because she knows darn well that if you don't take care of your dog, she will be the one who has to do it. Is it the size of the dog she objects to? Having 3 dogs? The expense of another dog? I would demonstrate to her that you can and will take care of your dog by taking care of both the other dogs 100%....feed them, groom them and walk them to prove to Mom you can be trusted to have your own dog. Maybe tell Mom after you prove that that the puppy could be your Christmas, Birthday and all other holiday gift for a year or two. That will show her how important it is to you.... Good luck.

What should I plan on for the naming ceremony? Does it cost much to have it at a synagogue. My husband and I don't go to the synagogue on a regular basis and neither of us have been to a naming ceremony so were sort of clueless.

If you are members of the synagogue it is covered as part of your membership. A gift to the synagogue (cash) in honor of the naming would be nice. If you are naming the child after a relative then you give the donation in honor of that person as well as the baby.

If you are not members of the synagogue then you need to talk to the Rabbi and administrator. You will not get a freebie like members do.

If the transition isn't made properly and every ones feelings aren't considered it can be hard on the first child. The attention given to a new baby can be overwhelming and can over shadow the older child. older siblings need to be involved as much as possible before and after baby is born...tell them its their baby and we love it and them. All the gifts and new stuff should be balanced with small gifts and thank you for helping presents for the older child. It can be done with no adverse affects at all.

As I understand it, it is acceptable (according to "etiquette") for you to have a shower for your son since your first baby was a little girl :)

I have two boys and I wanted to celebrate the arrival of my second son as well...but seeing as I already had everything I needed for his arrival (and "etiquette" says no shower for same-gender baby number two) My sister hosted a "casserole" shower for me instead! It was a lot of fun and in the invitations she printed up a cute saying asking the guests to bring a freezable casserole instead of a gift :) It was a great idea!!

My friend/coworker and I work in a department of 5 people, the other 3 all being our superiors on different levels. They are all older Japanese men, and there are definite culture differences.

If you know of a Goodwill or Salvation Army, try that, many of these places are very cheap and have an assortment of good things like clothes, decorations, and electrical appliances that often don't exceed more then five dollars.

Note: make sure what ever you get has all the parts and test anything electrical to make sure it works properly before purchasing because you won't be allowed to return anything.

Well really, anything that he likes will be meaningful because he'll know you put thought into something that he'd enjoy. Most dads like to barbeque so I always think a safe gift idea is something for his grill. Some kind of special rub or sauce, a "#1 dad" grilling apron, or some nice new stainless steel tools. We threw a friend of the family a baby shower at 20 weeks , at 24 weeks her boyfriend broke up with her and she had an abortion. Would it be mean for asking for the 200 dollar gift card back? or do I have the right since now , there isn't a baby. I wouldn't ask for it back if she had naturally lost the baby because that's just rude, but she chose this! What would you do ?

This is one of the reasons you wait until later in the pregnancy to throw a shower. Asking for the gift card back is kinda low, she is obviously going through a hard time. The money is gone you need to accept that.

Q. My daughter is 7 months old and I was just wondering what age did your babies cut their first tooth and learned to crawl. I can see two little white areas on her bottom gums but they haven't broke through yet. Also she is trying to crawl. She just hasn't figured out how to get up on those knees! I give her plenty of tummy time to help her practice! I know all babies are different and they develop and learn on their own pace. Just want to hear different stories from different parents! my youngest never crawled went right from sitting to standing to walking.she was about 8 months old when she got the first tooth....she's about to turn 10 years old and has never had a cavity.the old wives tale says the longer it takes to get them the longer they keep them...seems to be true

some one writes that not crawling has an affect on the child's reading and writing that's complete bs my daughter was tested for gifted program at 7 years old and was reading and writing at 13-14 year olds level doing math at 12 year olds level

We threw the party and after the party, we had a photo book made for each of our twins highlighting their first year of life complete with a section with pics from the party. We used www.kodakgallery.com to create it. I know that it is not something for them now but it is something they will treasure when they are older. It is our intention to make one for them each year and allow them to help when they are older.

Friends and family spoiled them with an amazing amount of clothes and toys. The favorite was a school bus shaped wagon with blocks. They will be 2 at the end of the summer and still play with this daily- here is a link:

What is the most ethical thing to do with a toy of questionable safety?

We received a toy as a gift for our young baby. The maker is Melissa and Doug, a company that makes its toys in China and which has had to recall some toys in Canada due to unsafe levels of barium. The particular toy we received has not been recalled - yet. Still, our baby is not so hard up for toys that we need to keep toys like this - made in China, possibly with unsafe levels of barium.

What would be the most ethical thing to do with this toy? I feel funny giving it away, as if to say that other babies should be exposed to barium - just not mine. On the other hand, I don't want to stick it in a landfill, just to have a family go out and buy the identical product when I could have let them have it for free.

I am sure this question will come up again and again in our lives, as babies and children often receive gifts.

Donate it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army- & pass THAT Decision on to Someone Else. After all; it's not been "PROVEN" that the Toy is Dangerous. And until it IS; Some needy Child might really get some Enjoyment- out of getting it. :)

try printing or whatever a bunch of pictures and make a photo album. Use scrap papers that have pretty designs on them and add captions. This would be best for a friend more then your mom or dad or something. My friend liked it(: But to help you get some more ideas, try doing something they can use. Like I made the thing for my mom to hang all her jewelry on, look at things you want to get for him or her and try to make it on your own. Anything is good, if it's sentimental and hand made they'll be sure to love it. Or atleast act like they do....

Any idea how to make a nail polish bouquet?

I wanted to do something creative for my mom's bday/mothers day gift. She likes to do her nails so I thought maybe get some O.P.I nail polishes and make it into a bouquet. I know it sounds weird, but I thought maybe it was worth the shot to see if anyone else has had the same idea or a better idea and have actually done it. I used to be a stylist and manicurist. We would do bouquets for customers by taking a small basket, put the polish bottles in upside down(round bottles work best), sometimes we would stick dried leaves, ferns and other floral shop extras in with the bottles, then would wrap a bow around the basket. Depending on the way they sit in the basket, you may need to tie a wire around them through the tape and have it go through the bottom of the basket to hold them firmly. These sold really well and it was hard to keep them in stock, so they are a very popular gift. Your Mom will love it.
Sometimes we would put a nice handkerchief in the side of the basket with a corner hanging out or just line the basket with it and have it hanging out all around the edges to look nice.
Sometimes you need to wrap tape around the caps of the bottle to make them hold together or they fall out easy.

a picture board is a great idea- I did one for my moms 60th party and she had a great time showing off her pics to everyone! Go get one of those tri-fold display boards and put tons of pics of her throughout the years on it- or you can make a slide show and play it on someones laptop computer- whichever works better for you. For decorating I just used my moms favorite colors- pink, purple, and silver accents- we had fake flower petals scattered down the center of the tables and a set of pretty candles next to a vase of lillies. I also found small travel candles for 50 cents and had one of those at each table setting as a party favor for the guests. We had balloon arrangements all over the room and hung streamers and some birthday banners too. I had also found on Ebay a book all about the year she was born and we had that on the picture table so people could look through that also and I found a Life magazine from th week she was born on there too (I gave that as a gift to her and she loved it).
so as far as decorations- go with something that you think she would like, maybe vases of her favorite flowers all over, or make it a theme relating to her favorite hobby and decorate along those lines (gardening, bingo, quilting- whatever!) This is a good time also to get some family pictures taken so make sure to gather up the whole group before people start to leave to get some good family shots.

There are a few cute godparents gifts that you can give!

If you want to give them a religious gift, you could give them a beautiful bible and write a note on the inside about how special it is to be a godparent --> this is a keepsake they can have for the rest of their life!

You could give them a savings bond that they could cash in when they are older.

If it is a girl, you can buy her a cross or an angel necklace to wear when she is old enough.

You could buy them a frame and get in engraved, and have a picture of you and the baby at the baptism.

I think all of these are really special, sentimental gifts that will be treasured by both the child and parents :)

What do i get for a shower gift? I wanted it to be personalized. So far im making a blanket but i'm the girl who always makes a blanket so she is expecting that. I really want something that no one else will think of and will knock her socks off! HELP!

A really special gift like a gold bangle, bracelet, other jewellery etc, is usually given by the godparents to the child at the christening rather than before the baby is even born so I wouldn't get something like that yet.

voucher for a family photographic sitting for when the baby arrives
Voucher for a belly casting (where they plaster mould your belly and paint it)
Voucher for a pregnancy photo session
Pay for a nappy service for a month (if she wants to use cloth) or buy a months supply of disposable diapers
An electric swing
Start a scrapbooking album of their wedding pics, her preggo pics and then scrapbook but leave space for photos of the baby pictures so all she has to do is slip in the right photos

You could also pack her a 'labour bag' with scented candles, soothing cd's, oils, lotions, toiletries like shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb etc, all things she will need but its all done for her!

If you really want to make things yourself you could make a diaper cake, just google images of diaper cakes and you'll find 1000's for inspiration. You could make face washer lollipops or cupcakes.

What are some good gift ideas for a pregnant woman stuck at the hospital for 2+ weeks?

My boyfriend's brother's girlfriend is almost 33 weeks pregnant with twins and she's had a lot of issues so far. She has pre-eclampsia, liver issues, etc. So the hospital is her new home until her babies are born.

I went and visited her today and I honestly don't see how she isn't going stir crazy. I want to get her a little (or big!) gift basket of things to keep her entertained.

So far all I can think of is magazines, word searches, etc. Any other ideas?
