I wish your mother a happy birthday. I am also a mother 3, ages 15 months/ 3years/7years. I will be 35 next month and will be traveling with all 3 kids by myself (by plane) on the day of my birthday. Not exactly the present I was thinking of! I love my kids and every minute I have with them (well, almost every minute). However, the best present I can think of at this point is a weekend away. I would love to be able to eat a meal, shower, or read a book without any interruptions (from work, my kids, and even my husband). I think many mothers spend most of their time doing things for their family and often don't have time to take care of themselves. Think about what your mother enjoys to do, other than care for her family, and gift her the gift of time to do that thing. If you are looking for something more practical, I recently received a beautiful silver accordian locket. It is not too big (I don't like big jewelry), but it opens up like a book so that you can fit four pictures in it. It is called the Booklet Locket and was purchased from "red Envelope." I put all three of my girls' and my husband's pictures in it. As much as I wish for time to my self, I miss my girls when I am at work and like to take a peek once in awhile. If you have time, you can have locket sized pictures taken at Wal-Mart to put in it for her birthday. I hope your mother has a great day.

have an easter egg hunt for her. buy plastic eggs and inside them, put money, jewelry, makeup items that fit (nail polish, eye shadow, etc). make your own coupons and put them in to give her time off. do dishes for the week or vacuum, laundry, cook things along that line. Maybe she wants to take art, dance or music lessons. Maybe you can get a gift certificate for cooking lessons. There must be somethings she has mentioned over time that you can fulfill for her. a day of beauty package at a spa. Help her pick out a new hairtstyle. shower her with flowers. each day a new bouquet in the week leading up to her birthdate. hand make birthday and thank you mom cards. get her tickets to hear her favorite singer (eventho the date may be later in the year) and if it is out of town, overnight hotel reservations. maybe she wants a flower bed planted or yardwork done. Maybe have a study or hobby room set up for her. hope this helps.

OMG Karen shut your trap for real. If it is a nursing related question - you ought to just skip it. You do not know crap about proper nursing advice & you feel free to spew about it. Nursing covers are nice because they have a wire form up top so momma can see the baby the whole time & not have the babies face actually draped in fabric where it rebreathes it's own carbon dioxide. A throw won't do that. Then the whole pull a boob out for everyone to see is not a movement. In fact - cover your breasts they are gross & sexual has been the only movement & it came in about 1940 or so & has grown ever since. If you knew what you were talking about (ever) you would KNOW that. My gram (90 yrs old) will gladly tell you how women unbuttoned blouses & sat with MEN & nursed openly when she was young. It is only today they WE are perves & think that it's weird. You can look through the Library of Congress photo archives & find LOTS of pics from the 40's & earlier of women openly nursing all over the place. We used to be grown ups about it & understand babies had needs. Then formula companies got a hold on health "professionals" like you & bought your opinion & paid you to disperse it through the populous. They also became the big "educators" about breastfeeding (ironic eh?) It IS all well documented what they did - there are even interoffice memos that have been revealed - THEY instituted separating babies from mommas & putting them in nurseries to discourage nursing, etc, etc. before that time babies AWLSY roomed with moms. That isnt' "new" that is returning to what we did BEFORE formula companies got the bright idea they could force feed their products to babies through the loving hands of nurses, often without mom's permission. They paid for those wings to be ADDED to hospitals to facilitate NURSES bottle feeding & promoting their products to moms. Read "The Politics of Breastfeeding" - it has a ton of citations to document these things are fact & shows a lot of what has really happened in our culture & the sad view we grew to have about nursing. THEN nursing became something you only did because you couldn't afford formula - so it was embarrassing to nurse & THAT is when public nursing became taboo & looked down on, not because eo boobs - because you were dirty & poor. You ought to be embarrassed to say what you do & then claim to be an RN. I hope you are a troll & real RN's aren't actually like that in 2011.

For father's day we always make a book for dad. The first year it was "Me and My Dad." I gathered up a bunch of pictures of my son and his dad and put them into a simple story about the two of them. Then I printed the words onto a paper with a cute border, taped the pictures on, and took it to Staples and had it laminated and bound. Here's what the pages said:
Cover: Me And My Dad
Page 1: My name is Michael
Page 2: This is my dad, his name is Roman, but I call him Daddy.
Page 3: My dad was the first person to hold me after I was born.

Me and my dad bought my mom a gift card from Nordstrom but little did we know she dosent really shop there or like the clothes there. The gift card contains 150$ and we went to customer service and they told us they couldn't give us the money back. Is there anyway we could get our money back from the gift card? Please help!

-Some toys are usually in demand like a rock-a-stack or those buckets with blocks.

-Glass or plastic bottles depending on what the mother wants
-Pacifiers

-Regular cloth diapers (work great for burping because they tend to be thicker)

Honestly? 90% of the time I buy clearance clothes that are 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-9 range along with one or two onesies packs (usually 4 to 6 onesies in the pack). I tend to focus on 3-6 and 6-9 because babies grow so fast so that way they can put the baby into the bigger clothes when the clothes start to get small.

sterilizer (you only have to sterilize bottles/nipples before you use them for the first time, they don't need to be sterilized before every use)

It was a hand painted porcelin music box. My son loves it and wants it played when I lay him down for a nap and at night. Hopefully he can pass it on to his kids. Also, the same person gave me a large wooden memory box which I thought was so lovely. I used the diapers, baby tub. clothes etc that I got from the baby shower but now that me son is 19mo the only thing I still use is the memory box and music box.

Seeing that you don't know them very well, it's not like you can get them a personalized gift.
So opt for supplies instead. Bum cream, diapers, wipes, spit blankets, blankets and baby soap and shampoo. Don't get clothes , as she might be stocked up already and you wouldn't know what she would like.
Stick to supplies, there's nothing a new mom appreciates more than supplies. It will save her from going to the store repeatedly for the first month. And trust me, she's going to need less hassle as she is going to be very tired and busy.

If you choose to get anything, get him a card with a gift certificate for dinner for his family somewhere, or maybe a cash tip in honor of his birthday. My daughter JUST had her 1st birthday a month ago. We asked everyone to get her board books....because she LOVES them. They are inexpensive and this is a great age to start introducing books!! My daughter just loves flipping through the pages and looking at the colorful pictures!!

Other great gifts are blocks to build towers (alphabet blocks are great...Target sells a huge set of them for around $10.00). There is a great learning toy put out by Leap frog called "LuLu The Letter Spinning Spider"....BOTH of my girls have adored this!!

Other things my daughter enjoys are things she can sort.....blocks (again), links, pop beads (the big plastic ones that pop into each other), and play food (she plays with my 2 year old's play kitchen and play food way more than my 2 year old does!!)

I am looking for something simple with like socks, paint, paper and things like that.

You could make a sock monkey. There's a step-by-step online, using a quick search. It's very easy to make, and they're quite fun. I would use a sock that isn't too fluffy/stringy/falls apart easily, since the baby will put it in it's mouth. If you want to, use child-safety eyes. These won't fall off the toy, so it'll avoid a chocking hazard. You can buy them online or some crafts stores have them.
Or you could make a sock puppet, and add animal features to it like ears and a tail since children love animals.
If you want to use paint, avoid ones with lead/toxicity in them. If the paint comes off and the child eats it, he/she could get very sick.
Just make sure everything you use is child-safe so the child won't swallow anything and get sick.

I have a baby cousin who can do some wierd things?

I have a baby cousin who will be a week old tommorrow and was born a little prematurely. When he was born, he had slightly accellerated respiration, so he had to stay in the hospital until saturday. He's fine now, but today, he did something extrordinary. He rolled over on his own. Most kids can't do that until at least 3 months. What else can I expect from him in the future?

Batteries, batteries, batteries...all the baby toys need batteries. Everyone hates to spend their own money on that kind of stuff. She may look at you a little odd when she opens it if she is a 1st time mom, but I promise 6 months later she will be thanking you for every time the baby toy stopped working ..she had a new battery on hand...and the kid with thank you also. Very bad when toys don't work.babies don't understand why and get very upset.

a baby bjorn with lumbar support; my dd is 8 mos old and loves hers and will still sleep in it if she gets tired, so it must be comfortable
if shes formula feeding, a 'dr brown's formula pitcher'; there is no shaking involved, so no foam or bubbles to put gas in baby's belly and u can make a whole day's worth at one time....
a boppy with a couple cotton covers, the soft ones don't fit as well for some reason....they can be used for feeding, resting tired arms when holding a baby, when baby gets older, to help him sit up, and for him to lean over for tummy time...they are great!
i love my diaper genie 2; ppl complain that they smell, but ours never has and my dd is on two solid meals a day as well as her milk...we use the dg for poopies only so sometimes there are some in there for a while and they still don't stink; refills are only five dollars at walmart....
she will probably get a ton of clothes and blankets, socks and such
a great thing! nobody thinks of, bc i figured it out myself....a lingerie bag for washing socks, hand mitts and other small things to keep from getting lost in the wash...
a pack of soothie brand passys, funny looking, but all a lot of babies will take including mine and they have no parts to break and are easy to clean....
if u know her well enough to know about her dig cam, get her a big memory card for all her pics....
some sleepsacks for when baby is older...
diapers if you know what kind she likes....they are always a good choice
i love my primo euro baby bathtub....it is marvelous!!!
a lamaze brand baby mirror with the wedge instead of the little frame stands....hard for baby to knock over and covered in high contrast colors, my dd used to play with the wedge by itself as well as with the mirror
the mirror to go in the car so she can see baby from her rearview mirror
a 'mosquito' or 'weather' mesh cover to go over infant carrier; it's easy to see through, take on and off, and strangers can't just walk up and touch baby, and THEY WILL, who knows why, but they do!
if u get the bathtub, or a bathtub, fill it with bath stuff..towels, washclothes, baby soap, lotion, hairbrush, comb, health kit with thermometer, nasal bulb, clippers, etc...baby toys for tub, toy holder for tub side...etc...
buy her some baby board books to read to her baby and in an few mos, baby will be trying to turn pages for mom, and they can take a lot of slobber
bibs, a variety, some cutesy for going out, some with waterproof backing, some of the thick terry cloth that pull over the head, i love bumpkins for feeding, etc....and you could buy a sippy cup or two, some soft small infant spoons and bowls, etc...
just pick a theme and go with it would be fun....there is sooo much
oh, and my dd is almost 9 mos and she still LOVES her womb bear, it plays a heartbeat with blood pulsing sound, brus has all this stuff and walmart has some of it.....maybe some baby einstein or other cd lullabies and a small cd player for baby's room, buy some classical music...etc..

buy her some nice rounded baby hangers and some with clips to keep outfits together....i needed so many of those it was unbelievable...
don't buy any clothes bigger than 0/3 bc depending on size and shape of baby they may not fit in the right season; my gal was 7, 6; but long and lean, so she wore nb and 0/3 forever; she had a lot of 3/6 outfits that were too cold to wear by the time she fit in them
a gift card to the store she is registered or a nearby baby store is also great, bc she can get whatever she still needs after the shower
my dd loved her bouncy seat, but has gotten a lot more mileage out of her rainforest jumperoo; she still bounces in it like a wild monkey and she's still on the lowest settting (she is petite though), but she loves that thing to death...ok, i will stop now..if you have any questions email me....i love to shop, can you tell?

I am looking for a baby girl memory book for a single mother. All the ones I have looked at talks about the dad; or how mom and dad felt during the pregnancy. I would like a generic type book in which you only record information.

You could make your own and it would be unique! She'll love to look at it one day. Go get a pink or purple scrapbook(or they have some with baby stuff on them) they are blank inside so you just choose a theme for each page and go with it! For instance: 1st page-carrying you-include a b4 you got pregnant picture and a 36-38 week pregnant photo and write down food cravings,what it felt like when she moved,etc.-You can personalize it with photos/ stickers/ gift tags from baby shower and so much more. Scrapbooking is my favorite hobby! The next 2-3 pages could be: Your birth and include her 1st couple baby pics, fingerprints,hair etc and hospital bracelet, pic of outfit she wears home from the hospital. If you don't know what types of things to do,you can look in a baby book at the store or do scrapbook research on the net. It will be cool because you can customize her baby book yourself!

We do this in my family; I always write, "Read with expression!" because to do so fosters an early love of reading and it's how I feel books are meant to be read and enjoyed, but you should write what you feel, either about that particullar book, or just reading in general.
