Dance teacher gifts.....?

Emma H

Every year for dance recitals my friend and I always try and make something creative or buy something dance related for my mom, who is the choreographer. We are having trouble thinking of new ideas of creative things to do for her. I made her a dance blanket and we found this really cool wall plaque type thing in the past. Anyone have any ideas of some creative things that we could make or buy for her. Think DANCE...lol

Answer
I don't know what dance style you do, but at my ballet studio we decorated a pair of old pointe shoes and put the school logo on them and now they're hanging in our lobby!

or what i'm doing this year for my teacher is write a poem comprised of all the little sayings that are her trademarks...then either frame it or make a collage out of it.

Please Help...Gift ideas for mom?

Kylee's Mo

Last year i made my mom a poster with all of me, my brother and sister's pictures from our whole life on it. It said we love you supermom. She really loved it! But this year i have ran out of creative ideas. Im 17, my sister 13 and my brother 8. We have about 20-30 dollars to spend. Our parents are divorced and my dad refuses to help us out. HELP

Answer
The gift you gave your mom last year was incredibly thoughtful and sweet. Perhaps you could stick with the lovely theme and create a photo album or video for her this year. One of my mom's favorite birthday gifts was a video I made for her with pictures chronicling her life from the time she was born up to present-day, and last Christmas I made a video with my art work set to her favorite poem and she loved it too. I just used the Window Movie Maker software that came on my laptop, so it didn't cost me anything at all to make the videos, and it wasn't too complicated. There are free video editing software programs you can download if your computer doesn't already have one. If you have pictures on your computer it will be easy to import them to movie maker (or whatever program you'd use), and if they aren't already uploaded you could scan them onto your computer. Make a slideshow of the pictures and set it to songs your mom loves, then burn it to a dvd or upload it to YouTube. You can password-protect the video if you just want family members to be able to view it.

Other ideas:
~ If you have a lot of older family photos you could scan them onto your computer and upload them to a site like Photobucket or Flickr, then give the password to your extended family so everyone could view them. It may seem like a really simple gift, but I imagine your mom would really enjoy being able to share special pictures with other family members and friends, and it takes effort to scan all the photos in. If you don't have a scanner on your laptop you could scan the pictures inexpensively at Kinkos. Just be very careful handling any older pictures because they may be fragile, and don't put tape on them.
~ Make a photo album for her. You could buy an inexpensive album at an arts and crafts store like Jo-Ann Fabrics or Michael's and decorate it yourselves.
~ Many photo-sharing websites like Shutterfly and iPhoto allow you to create gifts like photo calendars, books, key chains, and even aprons and coasters with your pictures, and they're usually under $30.
http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/print-products.html
http://www.shutterfly.com/
Drugstores and other places with photo-printing services can usually make items with your pictures too.
~ Find a picture you love of you and your siblings and put it on a coffee mug with "We Love You, Supermom" so she can smile every morning when she uses it.
~ Make a special CD for her with songs she loves and ones that were popular the year she was born and graduated from high school. You can download the songs and burn them onto a disk for under $30.

If there is a special poem or quotes she loves you could add them to the slideshow video you decided to make one. Here's the one I did last year to give you an idea:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rCHEfrkD4Y
Windows Movie Maker made it simple to add the poem, transitions and music.

I hope you all have a very merry Christmas.

~ Peace : )
Good luck!

6 month baby b'day party tips?

I love my

Am planning to celebrate my son's 6th mon b'day.
I know nobody does it but am doing it because I may not be in this country to celebrate his first b'day with my friends.
I will be sending an evite to my friends......am wondering what I should write there....dont want to write the regular stuff that we write for 1 year olds......any suggestions?

Also any tips on what gifts should I give to the small kids who will be attending the party? They are all less than 1.5 yrs old to hand over candy :)

Prizzy

Answer
clothes...babies grow fast and as a 2nd time mom I love when I get gifts of clothes for my new little one.something in size 3-6 months for them to wear now and then buy some larger sized outfits for the fall/winter time. You can buy them a little play gym thing if they don't have one already. gifts for my mom's 50th birthday?

I am 19 years old and my mum is turning 50.. I have no idea what to get her. It feel like it should be something memorable since 50s a big deal but i don't have a ton of money to spend on my college budget. But i do want to get her something, none of that write a a cute card because its the thought that counts stuff.

Answer
What if you did a photobook compiled of pictures of tons of her friends and family? Maybe you could even find some pictures of her as a child and growing up. Then get some family and friends to either write messages in the book or send you messages via email or facebook and you could print them out and paste them in. This is a very unique gift and she's sure to appreciate it. :)

Another idea if you have the time is similar to the photobook just a little more complex. You could use a video camera and video a bunch of friends and family wishing her happy birthday then use those videos as well as a lot of pictures to make a mini movie for her birthday. Just add some music behind them and it will be very professional and a fun gift to put together.

Good luck! Just remember she will appreciate anything you give her.

mom's 50th birthday gift?

chester

im tired of buying candles and other crap like that and i live in the middle of no where, so it's too much work and probably cant find a place for spa stuff, what should i get her?

Answer
How about a certificate for dinner at a restaurant, just the two of you? Gives her something to look forward to. Or make her a profile on Facebook? Then she can play Farmville like everybody else is doing these days. You can host a birthday party for her, then you are off the hook for a gift.
Is there something she would like you to do (organize digital photos, change the tires, what are you good at?) Regular wrapped gifts probably lose their shine after 50 years.

Need a gift idea for little soccer players...help!?

Em

I'm going to miss my two nieces' final soccer games in a couple weeks. They're going to be upset, so I wanted to send them a cute little soccer-related gift and tell them sorry i couldn't be there. I'm not a parent and don't know anything about soccer, and their mom says, "Oh don't worry about it," but I still want to.

What are some cute little soccer-related gifts for 5 and 7 year old girls? Thank you!

Answer
Many soccer stores and websites sell ear rings and bracelets with a soccer theme.

I'm 22, and have a serious fetish for soccer moms, Why is this? is it normal? will it pass?

Jae H

they are just the hottest women I have ever seen, I cant help but be attracted to them.

Answer
Why would you want it to pass? Soccer moms are hot and who doesnt want a soccer mom? Plus they probably have a nice van that you can make sweet sweet socer mom love in. It is a sign that you belong with a soccer mom so dont try to fight it just accept it. Its a gift.

Baby Shower Registry List?

sjf156

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of items you should register for before your baby shower? Or links to good websites with registry lists. I am so overwhelmed by all the items you need to have and don't know where to start!

Answer
Finding out you are pregnant, feeling your body changing, seeing the baby on the Ultrasound and telling family and friends about your wonderful news is all part of the excitement of your first baby. Your whole life is about to change in unimaginable ways and you want the world to celebrate with you. Of course there be someone wanting to give you a baby shower; and you can bet it will be so much fun. In order to help out all the guests and your sanity, it is a good idea to set up a baby registry at several stores that cater to baby items.

Why a baby registry? Well, everyone who knows you will want to get you and the baby something will special. By registering at a variety of stores, it gives your well wishers a list of the items you really want and need. Plus, by using a baby registry at several stores not only do you give them wide selection of gifts while being convenient at the same time; it also will help avoid duplicate presents. This really isnât being pretentious; it just makes sense as you will probably purchase many of your babyâs items yourself, so your family and friends need to know what else they can get you.

What should you list in your baby registry? Thatâs a good question. The answer is fairly easy as well; list everything you want and need with a few things desired thrown in for good measure. Plus, you can design your baby registry around your own situation (i.e. amount of family & friends, your income, your feelings on what you want to buy yourself). Here are a few tips to get you thinking:

You need to decide what you want to buy on your own, so nobody buys them for you.

You also need to know that you will not get everything you list and to expect to receive something you did not register for.

List items you really need - useful items like mattress pads, crib sheets, diapers, baby bath items, diaper bag, formula, wipes, soft toys, picture frames, baby book, onesies, towels, blankets and so on.

Donât leave off the larger items - list a stroller, a car seat, a highchair, a playpen, a swing or bouncy, video recorder, camera, carry sling, etc.

List a few frivolous items as well - sterling silver rattle, baby booties, dress up clothes, hats and so on.

GO OVERBOARD - it is always best to list as many gifts as you can, so your guests can find something they like for your baby shower gifts too.

Why register at more than one store? Not all stores carry everything you need and there may be a few unique items you want that are only carried at specialty stores. And it offers your friends and family a choice of places to shop from. Here are a few stores to consider setting up a baby registry:

Target - lots of clothes and everyday items including strollers, playpens and car seats, plus very affordable prices.

Amazon.com - a huge variety of items from clothes to everyday items to strollers and more. Many items will ship for free when you spend more than $25.00.

Pottery Barn Kids - unique and eclectic nursery items including crib sets, clothing, toys and furniture.

One Step Ahead - another lovely website full of wonderfully different nursery items to delight one and all.

Giggle.com - offers a unique variety of nursery items with a European flair, very chic.

Babies R US -avoid registering here. It is the most common place to register, but they are more expensive and their selection isnât great compared to other stores.

Donât feel bad about putting only 2 gifts on your baby registry from one store. All your gifts from all the stores you registered at will show up together on your registry website from AmazingRegistry.com.

Now is a very important and memorable time in your life and you want to make it special for everyone around you as well. Creating a baby registry at a variety of stores will help make your baby shower that much easier for you and your guests. Once you complete your baby registries, do come to AmazingRegistry.com and set up your own registry website to manage all your store registrations. Your baby shower guests can access your site and get a complete and up to date listing of all the gifts you want from all the stores you registered at. It couldnât be simpler and more convenient for you or your well wishers.

If you're looking to register at more than one baby store, you should take a look at Amazing Registry, http://www.amazingregistry.com . It will bring together all the gifts you registered for from all the stores you registered at and display them on a single page. They give you your own free baby registry website like http://www.amazingregistry.com/Moncada that you can give out to your friends and family. It also shows you what was bought when from what store, and other neat pieces of information like how many gifts are still available, and their average price. You can also add a message to your friends and family on your registry website.

Creating my baby shower gift registry! Please help me list all of the necessities?

FitGuru

i am not going to include toys or things that would be "nice to have". i am only going to list the necessities.

i am planning to breastfeed, so i won't need too many bottles, and my mom is going to buy a pack of diapers per week, so i won't need that many diapers. i will be adding these two little tidbits on the registry form. (i wanted to use cloth diapers, but i don't have a washer and dryer, and i don't want to spend all my time and money in the laundromat!)

i don't need that many clothes, either, because mom hits the goodwill up very often, and my son already has a closet full of clothes.

so, anyway, i know i will need means for the baby to sleep, means for him to ride, grooming products and bottles, etc, but what brands should i go with and how many of each should i look into getting?

thanks so much in advance!

Answer
Things I would suggest are:
*Stroller (the big kind for when they're infants)
*Sun stroller (the small, light kind for when they're bigger)
*Crib
*Bassinet
*Playpen (they also have ones that come with a top addition that is a bassinet and a changing station that you can remove easily. I had a Graco one and loved it).
*Breast Pump
*Storage bags (for pumped milk)
*A few bottles
*A crib set (sheets, blankets, bumper pads)
*One of those baby slings with the cover for when you have to feed the baby in public (if you're shy, lol)
*An infant to 1 year caarseat.
*A bigger carseat for when they baby is over a year.
*Baby laundry detergent
*Teethers
*Baby Grooming kit
*Baby Medicine kit
*Baby Bath kit
*Lots of blankets and baby towels and washcloths
*A really cute diaper bag
*A SWING. It's the most important necessity to a parent, lol.

As for brands, Gerber and Graco are great. But it really doesn't matter. Just be sure to always check for any recalls and make sure everything is put together properly.

And as for cloth diapers, if you google "Diaper Services", you might find a place in your area that comes and picks up the dirty diapers and supplies you with new ones every week. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it's something along those lines and you'll be able to find more info.

What should I get my baby nephew when he is born?

Q. My brother is going to be a daddy again in May.. When my neice was born ( She will be 5 in 2 dayz wowza time flew by) I bought her a bear and if u squeezed it it said the prayer " Now I lay me down to sleep.." and she still has it.. I know it is very specail to her and to me.. I want to buy something that will be specail to my nephew and I... But I dunno what to buy him...

Answer
Gift sets are best personally for me.I just had my son and those Johnson and Johnson bath gift sets are a godsend. Also soft blankets. They have this stuff at Walmart for fairly cheap 5 bucks for one of the soft blankets or you can get a large throw blanket for 10.00.Sleeper outfits are good too, because of the cold weather and easy to put on the baby and take off.Onesies are a must, for going under the clothes.Bottles, bottle brushes, babywipes,Socks,Gerber has the best fitting brand socks for newborns. They don't fall off like other kinds of socks do.Boys are not high maintance so it is fairly easy to shop for a boy.

And if your brother and his wife don't mind hand me downs,go to a consignment shop and load up on the sleepers there for real cheap.Make sure you launder them in Drift baby detergent in case that baby is allergic to detergents.I know for me that you change a baby sometimes 3 to 4 times a day,so the more clothes the better.
Things like bathtowels and baby toys and stuffed animals are kind of irrelevant right now, with the baby being so young they can't play with them, and baby bathtowels are a waste of time, they can use the ones you use on yourself.
And you can never go wrong with a couple packs of diapers.Pampers brand Swaddlers is best. These are the type they use in the hospital.Get size one in case the baby is bigger.Boys usually are over 7lbs.
Good luck being a new auntie!

Help with ideas for gifts for Baby shower games....?

cherries03

What are some inexpensive ideas for gifts that are unique and still something people like, also other than gift cards

Answer
I just had my baby shower this pass weekend and all i did was went to the dollar store and got a whole bunch of things and put little gift baskets together. They all seem to like them. I also made candle holders by buying wine glasses and flowers and putting flowers in the bottom of the glass and gluing foil to the bottom of the glass to keep the flowers in and then glued a candle on top bottom part of the glass, then tied ribbon around the bottom of the glass. These were only decor purpose, but everyone loved them.

Dose anyone know any cool baby shower games?

PeakAboo

Dose anyone know any active but cool and funny baby shower games??
i already have:

Guess Mom's Tummy Size
How Many Baby Names can you Create
Guess How Many Safety Pins
Feed the baby
Can Make the funniest baby photo
Baby Shower Bingo

Answer
i have some!!

ok so you have to have the famous clothes pin game...everyone gets a clothes pin when they arrive, you can do 2 ways, either - anyone who says baby can have their pin stolen or - anyone who crosses their arms or legs can have their pins stolen...who ever gets the most pins towards the end of the shower wins a prize..ppl really battle this one out! lol

ok so you can make a scavenger hunt and give them a few minutes to find as many items, one with most points wins (each item one point...for ex. "movie tickets" -someone has 5 in their purse its 5 points) and you HAVE to have your purse with you...you can't leave to go get it!! we had all kinds of random stuff, and everyone had a blast..you wouldn't believe what ppl have in their purse lol.

next, get ping pong balls...and regular balloons. STick the pingpong balls inthe balloon (they will stretch) when you are about to play the game pass out each, have the players blow up their pingpong ball filled balloons and DO NOT TIE THEM! let the balloon fall to the bottom which will lock the air in...game is to have guest try to deliever the baby...(get out the ball).. each person will have to continue to squeeze the balloon till the ball pops out...the balloons will NOT pop unless someone purposly pops it...we did this and had no poping of balloons, it was so funny, took time and balls were popping out everywhere...whoever pops out the baby first wins

the black bag game- fill a bag with multiple items, some to do with babies and some not...tell everyone they have 10-15 seconds to feel inside the bag without looking, then write down all the items they can remember feeling...person to guess the most right wins.. i put some weird things like a pinecone and even a mcdonalds toy doll...as well as wipes, bottle cleaner ext...it was funny to see their guesses!

last one i got for you...my fav!! -- take index cards, fill out on the plain side numbers 1-(however many guest) then pass them out...on the lined side have guest take 2 minutes to write their advice they would give your baby at that age (the number on the front of the card)...they can put their names on it, or everyone can guess who it was...after the 2 minutes collect all the cards, have the mommy2be read them aloud...you will die laughing at some things ppl put... we did from age 1-40...it was insane...everyone said that was the funnest thing they ever did, and its a huge ice breaker...takes about 15 minutes to read the cards or so...

hope you liked some...i had a awesome shower!! everyone told me it was their fav. shower theyve been too, we laughed i think the whole time...

o just also a idea, instead of cake we made cupcakes, and bought a cupcake "tree stand" put green icing on the cupcakes and topped them with toy jungle animals we found for $0.25 cents each at a near by partycity store...instead of like $70-100 on a cake we spent just $40 and i put a huge fish bowl dish with a note saying to please leave the toys for the baby...so i got to keep all the jungle animal toys for him to play with when he is old enough...and the cupcake tree was amazing looking and took no time at all.

and for gifts for games my sister went to sears/jcpennies/dillards stores and checked in the clearance items, she found a boxed set of different size cherry oak wood picture frames set of 12 for like $15 she then found some gorgous glass boxed candles with great scents for $2.00, she went to the dollar store got gift bags and made 6 gift bags each with a medium candle and a frame...and i got to keep 6 frames for myself for the baby room... she spent like $30 something on all the gifts and everyone was amazed at them, they were nice and not just some random junky lil gifts that no one really wanted...and it was not expensive...$30 may sound like alot but if you think about it, some of these ppl spend over $100 on baby stuff for you..so its a nice return to them...

goodluck!! have fun!
