THE ABSOLUTE BEST IS THE FIRST VERSION OF JUMPSTART TODDLERS (baby) all the way thru grade school I am not a mom, bt all of my neices and nephews and all of my friends kids==I purchased a copy and it is sooo exciting.
make sure you have 2 keyboards -lol one being wireless or at least control of the mouse it is soo much fun!
you can hold the baby on lap for a while then they want to go
across the room well you tell the to "push the button" on the keyboard and they crack up with laughter then they remember which button made it and they keep pusing it...
there is something called EASY BALL that all the kids like too .......and they remember.. My neice she is 8 she knows all the songs to Jumpstart toddler -

another is that VTECH - VSMILE VIDEO GAMES

there is also a 'cellphone' that you can record a message in
I did this was sooo cute i had one that recorded MY voice, one for her mom's one for dad one for sister and one for brother
ok i get carried away, but i got smart and finally put all the voices on a tape recorder and -the kids all used them and there was no fighting, but I wanted to check that out with voice theory==amazing

Christmas gifts for a 6 month old?

Sarah F

My daughter is going to be 6 months for Christmas and I really have no idea what kind of gifts to get her. any ideas?

Answer
My son will be 7 months on Christmas.

So far we have gotten him a "Baby's first Christmas" ornament and a pair of seasonal pajamas, and some little toys, socks, teething rings, etc for his stocking. He already has so many clothes and toys, plus other family members are getting him clothes and toys. So instead of buying him more, that he will outgrow soon enough, we are buying him clothes in larger sizes that he will eventually wear (6-12 months and 12-18 months) and toys that he can use when he's older.

If you rather buy her something that she can use now, this would be a nice idea: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4328862
My son loves his and uses it all the time.

Baby Shower Gift Cards?

Carolyn Ge

I'm hosting a baby shower for a niece that is in the Navy and lives on the East Coast. She will be flying alone and is limited on the amount of luggage she can carry. Would it be terribly rude to have a Gift Card shower or should we just pay for the shipping of the gifts back to her home or could we ask for gift cards to stores like JC Penney, Target &etc

Answer
Why don't you put her registry on the invite, something like this: http://www.babycachet.com/Chaise_Blue_Classy_Mom_Baby_Shower_Invitations_p/dmis0054.htm - You can put BabiesRUs.com or Amazon.com and maybe in small text, please ship to (her address). With online purchases, you have the option to ship to another address. It's harder to put "gift cards only please", your guests won't like it so much. Hope that helps.

Good luck!

How to get a free gift card for making a baby registry at target?

flyersfan8

Last week I got something in the mail like a little registry guide from target with a coupon that said if i registered there (which i already was anyway lol) and printed out my registry and took it to target i'd get a free $20 gift card. my question is how do you get that coupon??? My mom wanted to do it too (make a different registry and stuff) and just give me the gift card to use for my baby. does anyone know if there was something that you sign up for online, like a free offers thing ( i sign up for lots of them now lol) and thats how i got that or do you get it when you sign up with target.
thanks so much :)
no you receive a coupon for that that they have to scan when you bring a printout of your registry...sorry if my question seemed unclear...

Answer
I took a printout of my registry to the Customer Service desk and that's where they gave me the gift card.

Gift ideas for a stressed out mom?

Alex Z

My mom has been crying for the past 2-3 weeks because we recently moved in to a new house but there's lots of problems in it like leaks, and cracks, and big problems. She's been really stressed out and i dont know what to give her for christmas!!! i want to give her something stress-relieving. something that will bring a smile to her face. PLEASE HELP!

Answer
mom's love it when their kids write and tell them how much they love or admire them, and I don't mean just signing a card that say's I love you mom. write it like you would a school essay, what you admire and love about her, and give it to her with a little gift like a necklace or a braclet, she will love it and cherish it. forever.

what should I get my mom for mother's day?

Q. Okay so my mom is really stressed out and I'm not sure what I should get her..I was thinking something like a day at the spa? She's one of those types of moms that likes to feel "relaxed" what should I get her?

Answer
My mom likes to cook so I went to Fresh Market and got her some unique ingredients to make up recipes. Does she have a hobby? You can never go wrong with a massage gift certificate.

Christmas Gift Ideas under $20!?

BLUB

Ok, I'm having a really hard time looking and thinking for christmas gifts for my family... They are very picky with what they want.... Also, I won't have much money since I'm a kid so yeah...
Can anyone give me ideas?
Dad- Likes things he can use for studies. Only want things he find USEFUL( at least have 5 reasons y its useful)
Mom- Wants inexpensive mom gifts (but im like bad at thinking those..) She never really told me what she wanted, even though I've been asking her so many times..
Sister- She's 20 years old.Cheap older sister. Shes just like my Dad, but she IS a girl..so...-____-
My sister is just a normal girl. Not girly, not nerdy (but she IS smart XD)

Answer
Oh, that is always difficult! How about a clip-on book light? A planner to organize his schedule? A really nice pen set.
mom- is there any low-cost kitchen tool that she complains she is always losing? Or doesn't work as well as before? Cute stationary sets can be fun. Picture frames. A new (inexpensive) purse. A warm sweater.

Divorced and happily single
60 years old but very active

Dad=

Not religious
ladies man/ smoker
Divorced

Answer
Mom-a nice scarf, or something useful. Is there a small kitchen appliance that you could replace? Or a casserole dish, or maybe something that broke that she's been meaning to get a new one of? Useful gifts are nice especially if someone isn't too materialistic. Maybe a cute little apron?
Dad-Maybe a hickory farms thing with the meats and cheeses. Does your Dad have a hobby? Like my Dad loves to put puzzles together. is there something like that that you Dad likes?
Grandma- a framed picture of the family.
Uncle-Does he drink? Maybe a bottle of some type of alcohol (you might have to give the money to an older relative to buy it for you to give to him). But then again, maybe alcohol and pill popping won't mix all that well....hmm...They have some cute #1 Uncle shirts on Amazon and they're not that expensive.
Niece-does she like barbie? are there any tv shows she's into? Maybe get her a toy from a tv show, or movie she likes.

New Born Baby Gifts!!!?

Raj

Hey! http://www.giftbasketsofcanada.com is there anybody who have purchased new baby born gifts from this domain? I want to do secure shopping! Can anybody suggest if else?

Answer
I have never purchased from that domain. Lots of companies ship to Canada. Have you thought about a diaper cake? They are creative and lots of people have never heard of them and then are thrilled when one shows up at their door. They are made out diapers and arranged in such a way that they resemble tiered cakes. Beautiful, useful, functional and a delightful gift.

You should, maybe, think about gifting that instead!

Where do I sell my beanie babies?

violet.sta

my mom gave me a whole bag of beanie babies, she had them a long time they are all in good condition, I have enough clutter and collectors items, where can I sell them?

Answer
I think right now your best bet would be e-bay, Craigslist, or Zibbet.. The last place would be a Pawn shop. I have been watching programs on TV and the babies are not being bought now. You can store them some place and see if the feeling stops, give it to someone or put it in the want ads in your local paper. If you want to store it get some of the bags where you can take the air out of them and have a smaller place to put them.
For fun get a big board of some kind and put the babies on it. Get some darts and charge so much for each try and if they hit one and it sticks, that is the baby they get and you have some money for them.{just a thought}

I thought of putting who wants to buy beanie babies into the computer and this is what came up. BTW I don't know what a TY baby beanie is.

what is gift registry?

cat

Ok, this might sound dumb, but from where Im from, its not very popular...Ive heard it on TV and web..So, what is it and how does it work?

Answer
A gift registry is a way for people who are going to be celebrating a major lifetime event (Weddings, Baby Shower, Graduations) to politely suggest items that they would like to receive as gifts.

To register, a person typically visits a store or the website for a store and adds items to their registry. The items selected are saved to a unique list for that person or couple. That unique registry name is then given out by the individual to those who are invited to the party. If they are so inclined, the party attendees can then purchase items from the registry to give to the person as a gift. This way the person getting married or having a baby is more likely to get gifts that they actually wanted, versus something that they will have to return to the store later.

As an added bonus, some registry sites actually remove items that have been purchased from the registry already. That way you don't get 15 coffee makers at your wedding.

Great gift for new parents?

Kristen M

My sister and brother in law will be having their first baby at the end of this month! we wont be able to visit them when the baby arrives but would like to send a nice/unique gift! what would be something you would have loved to have gotten when your baby arrived?? i was thinking a dean and deluca or harry and david basket...?? we'll spend up to $100..

Answer
The last thing new parents want is a basket of overpriced food.

The most useful gift we ever got after having a baby was crib sheets, burp rags, and clothes. The more you have of those items, the less you have to wash them. When you have a baby you go through sheets/rags/clothes constantly which means you are constantly having to wash them.

But if you're wanting to get the parents a gift for themselves, try a gift card to a nice hotel and a promise to babysit when they get around to using it. The other thing parents want after having a baby is time to themselves.

shes not really into bf ,phones and makeup...
and she wants a
50th av Barbie-she dosent play with them just collects
Bratz
a huge stuffed dog
this big baby doll
a pink monopoly set
lollies
a new tv set for her room
blue ray player
DS games
lots of toys...
is this ok or what else should i get her

Answer
Wow, you're being very generous. I think everything on the list is great except the baby doll, toys, and Bratz dolls. I can't imagine a 16 year old playing with any of those, and it would be awkward and weird to receive them (I'm 17, and for me it would be). The Barbie doll collector's item is fine. I collect Blythe dolls. Maybe the huge stuffed dog is okay is she really loves dogs or stuffed animals, but it seems really juvenile too. I guess you're in Aus or NZ if you call candy lollies. Maybe you could get her a nice beach towel or something else she could use this summer.

Gift for Expecting Friend?

Busy Mommy

A male friend of mine and his wife just announced they are expecting their first child in October. I bought my friend a book that is a father-to-be's guide to pregnancy as a "congrats" gift. Do you think his wife will feel left out if I do not give her a gift? Do you think I should also get her something? If so...what? I know she is very knowledgeable on pregnancy as she is works as a nurse at my OB's office, so a guide to pregnancy for her would be useless, I think...she knows it all!
Jodi-You say "his friend" like there is more to it than friendship and I can assure you that there is not. I have been friends with him since we were in grade school. He is now very close friends with my husband also. I see him much more then I see his wife, she very seldom comes along when he visits us so I am not that close to her.

Answer
I say you do not have to buy your friend's wife a gift...after all...HE is your friend, if you consider her a friend it seems it's more of a "friend by association" type of thing. If you do decide to buy her a gift I think I would stick to some sort of book. How about a Baby Name Book?

Also...I do not see anything wrong with giving your friend a gift, even if he is a guy. He has been your friend since you were kids I am sure his wife is aware of that and if he visits you and your husband without her I am also sure she trusts you both in this friendship. Where is there a rule that says adults of the opposite sex cannot be friends beyond childhood? Give him the gift and don't worry about her getting mad about it, I am sure she won't!

what is baby shower?

sandrainte

Answer
A baby shower is a party in which expectant parents receive gifts or money for their expected child. By convention, a baby shower is intended to help parents get things that they need for their baby (such as basic layette items), especially items they may not be able to afford. It is a fairly recent tradition in the United States and in other cultures influenced by American culture or media.

Traditionally, a baby shower is held only for the mother-to-be, and only women attend. However, many people choose to have baby showers for both parents, and some people have a men-only shower. It is not uncommon for a parent to have more than one baby shower, such as one with friends and another with co-workers. A baby shower is generally arranged by a close friend or relative of the parents-to-be. Traditionally, it was considered improper for a family member to host because the event centers on gift-giving.

Baby showers have become more common in the past few decades, as families have become smaller and each child gets more individual attention. Though they are traditionally only held for the first child, they can also be arranged for subsequent children and for children who have been adopted. It is common for the host to provide baby-themed games during the shower. In some regions, shower favors (small gifts for the guests) are common.

Not all Americans hold baby showers. For example, in Jewish tradition, nothing may be bought for the baby before it is born. But many American Jews today do not subscribe to that tradition. Many Italian-Americans also do not hold baby showers. Some people prefer to hold showers after the birth of the baby.

[edit] Baby Shower Activities
While there are no set guidelines for what constitutes a baby shower, there are some traditional activities that are common at baby showers. Often, showers are luncheon or afternoon tea parties. While the most important part of the gathering is just gathering the mother-to-be's friends and family around her to celebrate the coming of a baby, activities, games, food and drinks give guests something to do and serve as ice-breakers for those guests who are unacquainted.

Some classic activities at baby showers include:

Baby shower bingo
Guess the due date
Guess the expectant mother's girth: guests cut pieces of ribbon or yarn to a length they believe matches the mom-to-be's tummy circumference
Guess the baby food flavor: guests have to taste-test several flavors of baby food and try to identify them
Usually, at a baby shower the guest of honor opens the gifts in front of the other guests. This allows everyone to admire the tiny clothing and fun baby gear.

While you can serve any food and beverages you desire, it is traditional to have a baby shower cake.

[edit] Other terms
"Daddy's shower" refers to a men-only shower for the dad-to-be.

"Grandma's shower" refers to a shower at which people bring items for the grandparents to keep at their house, such as a collapsible crib and a changing pad.

A "diaper shower" or a "baby sprinkle" refers to a small-scale baby shower, generally for subsequent children, when the parents don't need as many items.

A "pampers party" is also a mens-only shower, usually held the same night as the women's baby shower. The men usually give the daddy-to-be diapers only because the mommy-to-be is getting other items at the shower.

What should I expect at my baby's Catholic baptism?

Q. I've never witnessed an infant baptism so do not know exactly what to expect. I haven't talked to the priest yet, but I'm curious. Can anyone give me a step-by-step, basic explanation? Also, do I bring her in the white gown or is that part of the ceremony? I know it seems odd that I don't know any of this, but I haven't even started RCIA yet so I'm totally clueless about the sacraments, prayers, ceremonies...

Answer
Ok, let me see if I remember how it went when our baby was baptized... it's been a while so I might forget something but your answers so far are pretty lame.

First of all let me say that the whole ceremony was very easy to follow along with and the priest was pretty clear about telling us which readings to turn to, etc. I am not Catholic (my husband is) and had never attended (that I can remember) a christening, but I didn't find myself too lost or confused over what was happening.

There was a lot of standing and sitting and such, as is usual in church. There were some readings and some praying. My husband and I, with our baby, and the Godparents stood up front and we did some various repeating after the priest about how we promised to uphold the Catholic faith and raise our daughter as a good Catholic.

There was a white cloth, a bib in this instance, that was placed on the baby's chest, as the priest explained the significance of having the baby wear white, and then there was the actual baptism where he poured a little water over her forehead while my husband held her over the basin.

I can't remember if it was before or after the water, some scented oil stuff was placed on the baby's head, as well as mine and my husband's, and don't remember the exact purpose (symbolism) of it, but again, the priest explained it as he was doing it.

The whole thing lasted less than an hour and was quite pleasant.

As for what your baby wears, this is entirely up to you. Most people choose to go the traditional route of dressing them in a white christening gown, which can be found at any place that sells baby clothes. If you have someone in your family that sews, you might ask them to make one. Our baby wore a lovely, but simple, white satin and lace gown that my great grandmother sewed for her. Some people have the gown made from the train of their wedding gown, for added sentimental value. Or, if you do not wish to, or can't really afford it, you can dress your baby in any outfit you want, perhaps there is something else that is significant to you. Whatever you choose to dress your child in, this is where the white cloth (bib) comes in, as the priest will explain during the ceremony; it is to ensure that the baby is wearing something white, regardless of their actual clothing.

As for everyone talking down on infant baptism... the Bible doesn't even say one has to be baptized at all to be saved and to receive salvation, so I'm not sure why anyone cares if and when one is baptized. The Catholic church, as well as others, choose to baptize their infants (or whenever one is brought into the faith). It doesn't hurt the baby, most babies could care less about the whole thing. The ceremony, similar to "dedication" ceremonies done in some Protestant churches, is really for the parents and family and friends and the church, who are dedicating the child to God/Christ and promising to do their best to raise the child in the faith so that the child will grow up to be a faithful follower and in turn choose to accept the gift of salvation offered through Jesus Christ. The Catholic church (nor any other church that practices infant baptism) does not teach that once a baby is baptized, they are on easy sailing autopilot for the rest of their life and guaranteed a spot in Heaven. I'm not Catholic and even I know that.

IN short, the ceremony is lovely and one that should be enjoyed by you and your family and friends, Catholic or not. If you have a chance before you own baby's baptism, attend one so you can get a better idea of what happens. If not, don't worry, as I said, it's all pretty straight forward and easy to follow.

christmas gift exchange? Quick response appreciated.?

Persephone

This Christmas, my family and I are exchanging gifts. I picked my sister who recently gave birth to a baby girl, my godchild. There is a limit of 75 $. Since I am my sister's child godmother, do I have to spend more?

Answer
Nah, it's a limit for a reason. The point of a gift exchange is so everyone is in agreement about how much to spend, and so you're not stressed with trying to buy gifts for everyone. Besides, as her godmother, there will be a lot of opportunities to buy gifts for your goddaughter when you're not buying for other people as well. And $75 is a decent amount of money, if you want, you can buy something nice for your sister and still have a little left over to buy something for the baby. They baby isn't going to know or remember this Christmas anyway, so I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Christening gift from Godmother?

Diane

My sister gave me the honor of being her first born daughters godmother.
I have no idea what is the "godmother etiquette... Of coarse, I already got my neices Cross, Gown, shoes, stockings etc. But am I suppose to get her another a gift? I know the cross and gown are what the godmother normally buys for the baby, but do I also give her money? a memento of some sorts (from maybe the store "Things remembered") Whats an ideal gift? Or is the cross and gown all that's expected?

Answer
I think that a cross and gown is plenty, but if you want a little something for the baby they make stuffed animals, dolls, etc that say the "Now I lay me down to sleep..' prayer. I think that would be nice for the baby and her parents could play it at nighttime for her.

A question about registering for gifts for baby showers?

Someonesmo

How many places should I register? What type of things does one register for? How many items should I register for? Do I register for the bigger price items too? When I had my first baby 7 years ago, I was a older teen mom and I did it all on my own with either hand me downs or garage sale stuff. Now that I am having one the right way (being married and all that jazz), my family and friends are having a shower and suggesting that I register. My family says one thing, but I thinking another. Long Distance Baby Announcement ideas and how to stop people from coming to the birth?

Jessica

Hey,
I am currently 17 weeks pregnant and although everyone in my family knows I'm pregnant. I was told by them to send Baby Shower/Baby announcements to them eveen though I live 3000 miles from everyone and nobody would be able to come. I guess the main point they were trying to get across is that, I should include my registry on the announcemnt so people can ship my husband and I gifts for the baby to be. However I'm not quite sure how to do this if there wont be an actual baby shower. Any ideas on what to put on the invitation.

Additional Information: We were told to include the due date. However my husband and I werent really up to this because a majority of the family thinks there flying out for the birth and then staying in our home with us for a week. We honestly dont like the idea of adjusting to a new baby, plus enertaining and taking care of guest in our own home. We have tried telling them to wait 3 weeks, but they just dont listen. They said there coming anyway.

Answer
Birth announcements are usually sent to distant friends and relatives after the baby is born. If you look at the birth announcement cards that you can buy, they have places to put the date, the babies weight, name, etc. They are not intended to invite anyone to come for the birth or anything else. The usual assumption is that people will send a gift if they want to.
It sounds like you have a family that doesn't understand how this stuff works. No one except possibly your mother or mother-in-law should be there at the time of the birth. And then only if you want them.

If you haven't been telling everyone how pregnant you are, I think I would lie about the due date, and set it at least 3 weeks after it actually is. Then, when the baby is born, you can send the birth announcements and say "Oops! The baby came early".

Can you give me ideas for gift baskets?

jacquie

I would like to make them for the people on my list this year. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
This is my specialty, I have made gift baskets for most ocasions arranging from Baby showers, get well soon, child birthdays, valentine's,mothers/fathers day, welcome home baskets for a platoon of US MARINES, and Christmas.

KITCHEN
-If you are doing a gift basket for adult female/or elderly female that enjoys cooking/baking, you could buy mittens, pot holders, dish towels, burner covers, maybe a set of mixing spoons, whisks,a timer, spatula, recipe book, or recipe cards, measuring cups, cookie cutters (depending on the size of the basket) you may be able to add a coffee cup, you could add, hot chocolate mixes, a bag of peppermint sticks, cookie mix, sprinkles (christmas theme-trees, snowmen), and even icing. Who wouldnt love this? All of these items can be bought at a dollar store (which is still in good quality but in lower cost).

SCRAPBOOKING
-If you are doing a basket for someone who is into photography and scrapbooking, you could get a scrapbook, designed cutting scissors, hole puncher, ribbon, stickers, pens, borders, extra paper for the scrapbook, some adhesive, embellishments, and maybe a scrapbooking book to give them ideas. (again things that you can buy at a dollar store).
BATH
-If you are making a basket for a female that is into fashion and personal care, that loves to be pampered or you think needs a little pampering you would want to make a bath gift set for then get a towel and roll it up, tie a ribbon around it into a bow, add bath salts, bath oils, anything for bath or skin that pertains to aroma (relaxing). You can add bath sponges and exfoliators, bath brush (great Idea) facial masks, and bath lotions.

PERSONALIZED COLLECTIBLES
-If the person you are making a basket for is a collector of sorts, maybe Angels, Snowmen, Gingerbread Men, Apples, etc. You can find their specialty on nearly anything. You could find them on dishtowels, jewelry, note pads, stationary, handcrafted porcelains, hand painted ornaments, a do it yourself kit with the ornaments and paint in their theme. That gives them something to do.

CANDLES/SCENTS
-Do they love candles, and always have a wonderful smelling home? They would adore an arrangement of candles, in different shapes and sizes and scents. A few candle holders, or plates, dried potpourri, a bottle of potpourri gel or liquid, even a small potpourri burner would be of taste for this basket.

GARDENING
-Even though it is winter do you know someone who loves planting and tending to flowers and greenery? They would love New gardening gloves, small gardening tools like a shovel, shears, etc. seed packets, gardening books and magazines.

POPCORN/MOVIE
- This is someone who is always renting DVD'S and would rather to curl up and watch this than go out to the theatre.
Instead of a basket in this case, they would love a new large Popcorn bowl, Add several different kinds of Popcorn flavors, (butter, Cheddar, Caramel, ETC.) Add a few really good DVD'S, a box of tissues if they are emotional tear jerkers would be cute. Also, the candy that you get at the theatre in those square boxes, can be bought anywhere for less than a 1.00 these days, add sum Mike and Ike's, Milk Duds and Gummy Bears, then put your bag around this as you would a basket.

BIRDHOUSES
- They love bird watching and have a bird house. Get a hummingbird feader or birdhouse (small of course). For which ever you choose, get the appropraite feed, the sugar water or a small bag of bird seed, a book on bird care, you may also like to add some bird shaped stationary.

FISHERMAN
- Ok, maybe you are buying for someone who spends alot of time fishing. Then buy several different things out of that department (lures, hooks, worms, etc.), a plastic compartment to divide them, maybe a boning knife, fishing line, weights, a multi tool (kind of like a swiss army knife), a fishing magazing.

SEWING
-A smaller sized (travel sized) sewing box, thread, spools, straight pins, a pack of buttons, zippers, a ruler, scissors and cutting tools, needles, a lint brush or lint shaver, stain removal pens, pattern making supplies, maybe even a gift certificate to their favorite fabric store.

CRAFT
- Lots of Crafts. Different mini projects, glue sticks, glue gun, stencils, beads, paints, scissors, glitter, soap making, clay, etc. Magazines or books on craft ideas.

FUN

- Joke books, puzzle books, crosswords, Uno Cards, jigsaw puzzle, a funny dvd or movie, deck of cards, a few gag pranks ( like the baseball for the back window sticker), whoopie cushion, a shock pen, etc.

TEA
-Different flavored specialty teas, tea cups, a small teapot, either homemade cookies, or a few individual packs of cookies, different varieties of chocolate candies, a bag of sugar cubes, and a few lemons.

COFFEE
-A few coffee mugs, a couple bags of specialty groud coffees or gourmet coffees, creamer, a bag of sugar cubes, some sweetner packets, a bag of coffee stirers, top it off with some homemade cookies.

CHILDREN
-Stuffed animal as a center, hotwheels, or some toy you think they would enjoy. Coloring book, crayons, Activity book, reading book, education things (flash cards, etc. [depending on age]), and candy. These things could be put into a stocking instead of a basket as well.

BREAKFAST
- You wouldnt want to add sausages/meats and pershible items to these, due to the last minute stress for making them, the fact that those items could make the others soggy from moisture etc. So If you would like to make a basket for a couple or even a single person. You could buy a mug, or a couple, maybe a matching set. Buy medium size jars of jam, jelly, and perserves (DO A FEW DIFFEERNT VARIETIES) like strawberry perserves, grape jam, and apple jelly. Apple butter, mapple syrup and honey. Add a few varities of coffees and teas and bisquick or jiffy pancake mix. (all of these items can be found in the dollar section of most sotres, big lots, and other discount stores and dollar marts ) You could even buy a small pan for a 1.00 at the dollar store to add to the basket.

FOR EXPECTING MOM
- Are you making a christmas basket for someone who is expecting? You could make a special basket just for their pampering needs. This is probably something they wouldnt even get at their shower and they would enjoy it so. Include candles, anything relaxing like music cds and aroma therapy candles, pretty decorative bath soaps, bubble bath, maybe bedroom slippers, body sprays and lotions, cocoa butter or vitamin e cream (good for stretch marks), a loofah, bath brush or pretty sponge.

INFANT OR NEWBORN
- Are you making a christmas basket for a newborn baby or and Infant? If this is their first christmas you could buy a santa hat, bib, blanket or stuffed animal that says babys first christmas.Lotion, Powders, Body Wash, Shampoos, diaper rash cream, baby wipes, brush, clippers, bottles, bottle cleaner, onesies, booties, and a stuffed animal.

YOUNG GIRL
-Purse, scarf, mittens, earmuffs, nail polish, hair brush, hair ties, bows and ribbons, perfume, glitter, makeup, nail file, mirror, earrings, stickers, fancy pens, paper, journal, etc.

COUPLE
- A light blanket, pair of coffe mugs, hot cocoa mix, bag of marshmellows, a bag of pepermint sticks, a bag of hershey kisses, a few of their favorite candy bars, and a dvd for them to cuddle up and watch together.

FOR SHUT INS OR ELDERLY
-I've also found that baskets with everyday necessity type items and food are great for older people that don't really need any more knick-knacks. Make these as you would a care package, coffee, dried fruits, favorite fruit juice in a can, mints, candy, soap, socks, razor, shaving cream, cans of their favorite soups or food, mini loaves of breads or muffins, teas, soup mixes, noodle mixes, pasta, bag of their favorite chips.

ICE CREAM SUNDAE
- Maybe you are making a basket for a child that loves their ice cream, or even an adult that absolutely loves ice cream. Maybe brothers or sisters, etc. Get some ice cream bowls or sundae bowls, some spoons, and a scoop. Sprinkles, caramel, strawberry, chocolate, pineapple and cherry sauces, and almonds, of course any other toppings you think would be nice. Add a pack of nice cloth napkins.

MEXICAN FIESTA
-Do you know someone who loves mexican foods? Why not make them a Mexican fiesta basket? Find kitchen towels or mittens with chilli peppers on them.Include several bottles, jars, or envelopes of seasonings: chili powder, oregano, taco seasoning, paprika, garlic flakes or powder, fajita seasoning, cumin, dried chili peppers, jalapenos, hot sauce, etc. A Mexican cookbook, cd of Latin music, and dessert items are nice finishing touches.Add snack foods such as tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, black bean dip, cheese sauces, etc.
Add a small bag of black beans, navy beans, pinto beans, or garbanzo beans. Add a small bag of rice. You can also include the makings for Margaritas: Tequila, Triple Sec, Margarita mix, glass rimming salt, drink umbrellas, and fresh limes or lemons.

Throwing a baby sprinkle (shower) for sister in law. I need help with invitations.?

dork4aharm

I need help finding great sprinkle invitation wording. I have looked at some but haven't found anything I really like. My sister in law is having her second boy and just needs basics. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
How about this but put it on really pretty index cards: You are cordially invited to a baby shower (sprinkle) for a woman who has already had a kid. You probably have no idea why she and apparently the rest of the family feels that everyone else should provide the "basics" for her second kid but please do not show up with no gift. Also, it would be really great if you could just thank yourself in advance because everyone knows that new mothers are really busy.

You are welcome.

what gift for newly born baby and its mother?

feluda1_99

I want to visit my friend's wife and newly born baby at hospital? should I give them any gift there on this occasion?

please give me some suggestions.

Answer
Yes I think if you are going to go to the hospital you should bring a gift but most new mothers prefer to actually leave the visits until they are at home because the last thing you want to deal with when your tired and sore is 100 people.

Hope this helps, if you need inspiration for a baby gift check the link below

my sister just had a beautiful little girl. What is the best gift you recived when you had your baby? i'm wanting to buy her the most practical and helpful item. please tell me what you got that you would recomend to others.
Thanx

Answer
Gro-bags (and also alot of the other bits made by Grobag but esp the grobags themselves) at www.bumpto3.com and Drybibs at www.drybib.co.uk.
These items were both given to us as presents with our first child and were totally fab. We're now using them with our 2nd. I would highly recommend them as cute and practical.
Oh...one thing I was given with my second baby was a Kari-Me at www.kari-me.com and I have no idea how I coped without it with my first baby! I would be lost without any of these 3 things and have bought them as presents for my friends who have had babies who also love them!

Does anyone know where to buy girl/boy twin outfits? Thank you.?

Gary W

I have to buy a baby shower gift for a lady I work with who is having twins. I would like to buy her a matching outfit for them. I have no clue where to go online to look. I would appreciate help from someone who has done this before me. Thank you so much.

Answer
Go to Babies R Us. You can find similar outfits there. You most likely will not find the same outfit for a boy and a girl. You can find similar outfits that are different colors. Babies R Us has a good selection. This is where we buy most of our clothes for our twins. They are 8 months old and also a boy and a girl.

Baby Shower Games, Please Help.?

Lexi R

Me and my twin sister are helping with my cousin's baby shower. She is having a girl. We just don't have alot of games in mind. Can anyone help?

Answer
Oh i just went to my cousin's baby shower a few months ago. here are some games that we played that i thought were fun:

-Gift Bingo
Game Discription: Print out blank Bingo boards from the computer and give one to each guest. Let them fill it out with whatever they think your cousin will get. (i.e. high chair, bibs, blankets, stroller, etc.) when its time for your cousin to open gifts they pay attention and cross off things on their bingo boards that they previously put there and see who gets bingo! its a great way to get people to actually pay attention and not get bored while shes opening her gifts.

-Guess the Poop -(i know it sounds gross)
Game Discription: Get a package of diapers and all different kinds of chocolate candies.(m&ms,butterfingers, snickers, crunch bars, reeses pieces, etc) Label the diapers 1 through whatever the number of different chocolate candies you got. (i think we had 10 at the shower i went to) Crush the candy in the diaper and melt it in the microwave for roughly 7 seconds-just enough to make it look like poop, but not a lot so u can still identify what the candy is even though its all mashed up. At the baby shower, place them on a table in order of the numbers written on the diaper. Leave pieces of paper on the table so guests can write down what they think the different types of candies are and use the numbers to identify them. (make sure to make a key while u are making the poop-filled diapers so later u can correctly identify the diapers later at the shower)

-Guess the Tummy Size of Mommy:
Game Discription: Use string, yarn, or a specific measuring tape meant for this game (not sure where to buy it). have each guest cut a piece of yarn for how large they think the tummy of the mommy-to-be is. after everyone cuts their tape, measure the mommy-to-be's tummy and measure up the accurate piece of string to everyone elses and see who was closest.

Here are a few links to give u a few more ideas for games:

Christmas gift ideas? What do I do? Help?

I have like $100-$110 and I'm 16 and can't get a job around here. I want to get my mom and dad something. But I also wanna get my good friends baby something. We've been friends for 13 years and she has a 7 month old baby that I loveee! I want to spend all my money on her but then I would feel bad for not getting my parents stuff. My mom sad she doesn't want anything but...still...I would feel bad..any suggestions?

Answer
How about getting an inexpensive gift for the baby such as a baby book, a baby lullaby CD, a stuffed animal or a photo frame? I have lots of tips on cheap (but not looking cheap!) baby gifts: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/cheap-baby-gifts.html
You could also make something homemade, these gifts usually are also not expensive and some of the baby gifts are easy to make. How about a baby name frame or a nursery door sign? Check this out here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/homemade-baby-gifts.html

Apart from that you might like to give your friend a babysitting coupon booklet. So your friend can have some spare time, too. I am sure she'd appreciate that.

Arts and Crafts Ideas for a 7 month old baby?

meow

I babysit a 7 month old and I would like to do some crafty things with her while I also do some with my daughter (who is almost 2 and a half). I would love to do some cute things with her to send home with her.

For Halloween, I did ghost footprints. But aside from foot and handprints, anyone have any cute suggestions for some very simple things that a baby could do? Obviously I would be doing most of the work, but I would love for some things that she could be involved in making that would make it 'her' project.

Answer
Mix up a batch of homemade finger paints (that are non-toxic in case the baby puts some in her mouth - which she is very likely to do), and let her and your daughter create artwork on large sheets of paper. After the paints dry, you could use the paper as gift wrap, to make custom greeting cards, or even as matting for around photographs in picture frames. Here is a link to our favorite kid concoctions, which includes the Finger Paints recipe: http://www.escapadedirect.com/coforki.html

Although 7 months old is very young, finger painting does help with small motor skills and hand-eye coordination. She may or may not be ready to use her hands and fingers to apply the paint to the paper - you may end up with her getting paint all over her and everything else she touches - just be prepared for that.

I hope this helps!

What colors should I use for a baby blanket?

Morgan Wil

My cousin and his wife just had their first baby (a boy, almost 6 weeks premature but finally home and doing well). I do a lot of crochet and I want to make a blanket for the baby as a good luck/welcome home gift. But my cousin's wife is Vietnamese and I'm not very familiar with the culture so I was wondering: does anyone know which colors I could use for the blanket that would be for good luck, happiness, protection, or good fortune according to Vietnamese culture? And are there any colors I should avoid completely (might be considered bad luck)?
My cousin and his wife are both Buddhist if that's helpful at all.

Answer
Green or blue, the first is preferred.

Marriage Celebrant looking for ideas for Vietnamese Wedding Ceremony?

scrapmum

I am a wedding celebrant looking for ideas on how to make the ceremony of a Vietnamese couple more personal. They do not have any family around them, and very few friends, but I would still like their wedding to be meaningful and personal to them. I have read that the giving of earrings and/or a necklace can be done. Can this be the groom giving them to his bride or does it have to be given by someone else. The groom mentioned some traditional gifts or boxes that have special things in them, but I wasn't able to fully understand his explanation.

They have a 10 month old daughter and the bride is due to have another baby in about a months time.

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Answer
Usually the groom's mother will present the bride with jewelry (earrings, necklace, etc) when they come to pick up the bride from her house. The boxes with the special items in them are usually arranged by the groom's family. Back in the day, the bride's family would make prior arrangements withe the groom's family that they'll agree to certain conditions before the bride is allow to leave the house to go to the ceremony. Most of this stuff is foods, goods, and other stuff the bride's family can share with their village once the bride is gone.

Not sure what would be meaningful to the couple as this stuff is usually done between the families.

How to make a homemade anniversary gift for Mom and Dad?

My mom and Dad anniversary is coming up in Feb.... i know im asking a bit early im just trying to it early%3

Answer
You could burn them a CD of the top 20 billboard songs the year they got married. Or make a scrapbook of photos of them throughout the years.

For my grandparents 50th anniversary, we sent letters to all their friends and asked for a letter of a favorite memory. It was great b/c some people wrote about when they were really young and some wrote recent things. We went to the scrapbook store and got lots of pretty things to put in there.

It's not homemade per se but you could take a lot of pictures you have taken of them to Walgreens or Walmart and have them make a calendar.

what is the best gift from me for my mom dad on their 25th marriage anniversary?

anamika g

okey.......... i am only 14 years old and i really don't know that what will the best gift from me to my mom dad?
so please help me.:-)

Answer
How about a video? You can put together a video of pictures taken throughout their life. Starting with the oldest first and working your way up to the latest. There are ways to take photos and have them put on a DVD. You can also add music to it. My son did that for his Grandparents 50th anniversary. It was fantastic. They still talk about it and show everyone when they get the chance....lol.

engagement party gift ideas?

itsme

I am the maid of honor and I have no idea what people give for engagement parties! They don't have a registry set up. They are in their mid-20's...any ideas??

Answer
Where are you from?
Engagement parties are gift giving events in Australia.

When I go to an engagement party I alway give a $50 gift card from a homewares store. That way they get to choose what they need and what matches their decor.

If you want to get them something a little personal, why don't you search through your photos, find a beautiful photo of the couple and have it framed. A friend did that for my birthday (a photo of my fiancé, our baby and myself). I loved it. By far the best gift and it was personal too.

hey i was gifted two baby red ear sliders ....the male slider has holes on its shell its the size of a needle?

shane Dcos

require help immediately

Answer
Gift...you were scammed.

DIRTY water will cause sickly turtles..

Turtles can get shell rot (bacterial) or shell rot fungus.
Add 1/4 of a cup of aquarium salt per 5 gallons to irritate and hopefully kill fungus. The addition of sulfa drugs such as those sold at pet stores under the name "Dr. Turtle" also should help kill fungus. Here is one source that sells Dr. Turtle. They also now sell a Sulfa dip by Zoo Med to treat bacteria and/or fungus.

MY care of my two 37 yr old sliders (plus 3 adopted males)

****Austinsturtlepage.comâ has all info on care and feeding and PICTURES for all land and aquatic turtles.
*** Ten gallons per inch of each turtle!! Sliders, westerns, easternâs, cooterâs , midland, painted, map, yellow bellied ,are all are basically the same and require the same basic care. EACH 4" turtle needs a 55 gallon tank to start anything would be cruel.

***Some sicknesses they get easily like shell its actual holes rotting through the shell.
Respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, vomiting, blowing bubbles from their nose. . Treatment is 10 days of injections of Baytril (enrofloxacin) liquid into the front legs. To do this, you must consult a vet to get the antibiotic and the proper dosage. Do not guess on the dose.
Increase water to 83/85 degrees.
Swollen eyes due to lack of vitamin A fruits and veggies.
Fungus white cotton patches on their skin.
Metabolic bone disease means an inadequate calcium and/or a vitamin D3 deficiency. The earliest symptoms are the softening of the plastron, underside of the shell.
Septicemia is the fancy medical word for blood poisoning. What it means is that something bad is in your turtle's body and it have created toxins in the blood. These toxic are deadly and the turtle needs to be placed on meds ASAP to prevent death. There are no home remedies for dealing with this situation. This is a serious condition and should be attended by a qualified herp vet as quickly as possible.

Contact rescues sitesâ¦and vets ..in your city ,state, or country

They NEED calcium and protein they get it from the fish meat and the fish bones. Drop 20 or 30 or so feeder guppies or small goldfish or minnows they maybe a bit fast for babies at first just drop in the tank and watch them disappear in a few days! Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for up to 8 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. TOSS in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium that will promote better shell growth, it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it thatâs fine!!
**Remember, you need a heater...set at 83 / 85 degrees. If water is cold they will stop eating!
Plus I also feed dried cubed blood worms or tubiflex worms or pellets at least 5 times a week for my five..
They can have garden worms which I collect after a good rain and dump them in the pond, also meal worms, snails, crickets, flies, crayfish small frogs, slugs, tadpoles, ghost shrimp , dragon flies and anything that moves, but only as a treat.
They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 4 to 5 times a week.
They love grapes and strawberries and squash , apples cut up..
**** If these are hatchlings a 1â and a tad over they may need to have their live food half dead by leaving the fish out of water for a few minutes (10minutes) and put in the tank. That way the baby can get the meat he needs and the fish canât out run the baby turtle.
Plus âsome leafy greenâ and vitamin A âfruitsâ cut up a COUPLE times a week.â Swollen cloudy eyes comes from lack of Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes.

These turtles in captivity do not. They cannot hear or see well so they feel you coming by the vibrations each foot step take.
So they need a turtle basking dock.
**Gravel larger than they can swallow, allot larger. **Better no gravel at all, easier to clean.
Their water needs to be clean otherwise the get sick easily from dirty water caused by their poop allot.***You need a GREAT filter system depending on the tank in a 60 gallon my girls were in one yearâs ago. I used two double sided marine or penguin filtersâ¦It really helped keep it cleaner!

They will bite VERY hard. Under 4" they carry a disease called 'salmonella'. So you should wash after every handling ANY size turtle or reptile anyway.
***And my pictures don't lie. All ages and all sizes get along as long as their is allot for SWIM ROOM and PLENTY TO EAT!
They can become cannibalistic if you have 2 or more turtles and a small environment. They will kill off the smallest and then fight for the tank for themselves.

Size for basic aquatic turtle is approx Body length: 6-8" is average for males, up to 12 inches max for females, but average i

What do I bring to a baby shower?

:]

My boyfriend and I are going to his sister Baby shower. The baby was a premi ( 1 1/2 months premi) so I have no idea what I should go get for us to bring.
Any ideas?

Oh the babies name is Caria Rose (=

THANKS for you help!

Answer
I appreciated all gifts but the most useful are the diapers and wipes. Be sure to get sensitive wipes so baby won't be irritated by them. Preemie diapers would be good and even newborn size. If you wanted to get that stuff you could add just a small, cute outfit in a larger size because I got too many newborn sized clothes and my son didn't even get to wear them all. I also loved getting baby wash. My son is very sensitive skin so we have to use Aveeno Baby brand wash and lotions. Those would also be a useful gift. Bibs are a great gift and you can find many many cute bibs! If your budget is on the higher end, you could have your BF find out something pricey that she really needs for the baby such as a swing or playmat. I was very appreciative of the bouncey seat we got from my sister in law. If she doesn't have a rocking recliner or glider, yall could get a glider seat. That was a gift I got from our church members because it was also on the expensive side. I think if you go to walmart.com and go to the baby section and search glider you could find one for under $100. Good luck! :)

10 hot and unique gifts for Christmas for young kids (b/w 2-6 yrs)?

Simi

Am looking for something different, not the usual run of the mill type gifts. Thank You.
Also if I have to buy these where can I buy them in Montreal Canada? Thank You

Answer
I cannot imagine a kid 2-6 that doesn't like stuffed animals. In Canada, you might be able to find a stuffed baby seal (made with artificial fur of course). I am not from Canada but would look in toy stores and dept. stores (I don't know about Montreal, but in Ontario, there are KMarts).

Best friend having a baby, what should I give her?

L.

One of my best friends from high school is having a baby girl this summer and she invited me to the shower. What sort of gift should I give her? Also, she asked me to be at the hospital when the baby is born, and I'd like to give the baby a present, something really nice that she can keep the rest of her life. Does anyone have some ideas? I'd like to keep the budget $50 or under.

Answer
Some of the nicest/most creative gifts I got were...

A gift certificate for a photo session
A Canada Savings Bond (or you could open a bank account, RESP etc.)
My sister gave me a onsie, hat, and socks in the hospital. I love them and will keep that outfit forever. I can't find a link to them, but they were organic. The socks were called "Dreamsacks", and both the hat and onesie had a little pumpkin on them.

What kind of gift do you give to the parents of a sick child? I'm going to visit them and their baby keeps get?

What kind of gift do you give to the parents of a sick child? I'm going to visit them and their baby keeps getting worse with his illness. When I visit I wanted to give them something, but I do not know what to give. They cannot really get out much at all because of the baby. What should I give them? Any suggestions?

Answer
My younger brother and his wife had a baby born 3 months premature, who fought hard for a month and a half, but later passed on. While he was sick I sent the mom flowers and brought them food. Bringing food is always good as it relieves them from one pressure and makes sure they eat properly. You could also bring the baby some age appropriate books for the parents to read to him...
I hope the baby gets better.

Gift for my daugther when she visits my wife and our new baby twins? HELP?

Just some

My wife is going to be delivering twins and I want to have a gift to give my daughter when she comes to visit the babies at the hospital. It will be a gift from the twins. So I am wondering what might be a good gift she will be 20 months old when the babies are born. please help

Answer
My Mom got me a baby doll and a book called Baby Dear. It was all about being the big sister and taking care of my baby when my Mom took care of hers. I am not sure if the book is aroound anymore, but you can get your daughter a baby doll and some thing for the baby. That way she can take care of her baby. The age gap between your children is great. It won't be too difficult for her to adjust to the twins. It is also cute that you want to get your daughter a present. Good look with the twins!

What to buy Adoptive Parents in the UK?

My friend and wife just adopted a baby girl and I would like to send a gift. They live in the UK and I live in the US. I thought that diapers would be best, but couldn't find any on Amazon UK. Is there another site I am not thinking of? Are there any better ideas for a gift?

Answer
A more normal gift would be baby clothing, or toys rather than diapers.
You can get plenty of baby clothes or toys from amazon uk
