Gifts for guys?

krystllygh

This is my husband's first Father's day and I want to buy or do something special for him but don't want to get like... a tie or cupholder. Fellas, what would you like to get? Ladies, what are some cool gifts you got for your husbands?
PS Not much money...yikes!
Okay, I know that a good meal might work...but how do I say this without sounding so totally broke? Our oven is kind of on its last leg and we just spent like $140 on groceries and don't have much more to spare and credit cards are maxxed out...double yikes!

Answer
that is really nice of you to want to do something nice for him. It's MY first fathers day too coming up and unfortunately I KNOW I won't get anything from the baby's mama...but I would suggest packing a picnic basket and spending the day with your child and him at a park or somewhere you've been with him before. It's not what you buy him...it's time spent with the family and reminding about fatherhood. What better way to show him that than to spend the day with FAMILY. Good luck! A personalized card or poem would be icing on the cake.

Babyshower, gift for mama.

Lilyanna.x

Im going to my cousins babyshower, and I was going to make a basket full of baby stuff, then one full of stuff for mama, my cousin.. is putting pas in the basket weird? I know she is going ot need them for after the baby is born.. but is that something that would be good to put in her basket.. what about soaps candles?.. what else could I put in it?
sorry it says 'pas' i meant "pads"

Answer
Well I would make sure there was at least one bottle of adult Tylenol. I might even take an empty pill bottle and fabricate a label for her that says tranquilizers, then put some candy in it. ( As a joke, we all know that sometimes parenting can be stressful) Lotions, Soaps, and candles are all great too. A gift card to get a new outfit would be fabulous because after baby comes, nothing fits right. Even a gift certificate to get her hair done might be nice. Don't forget to add a couple of packs of ear plugs.

It's nice to get things for the mama. By the time the baby comes, you feel as if you have slipped into the background somehow and the baby is all anyone thinks about anymore. It's nice to know that mama is being remembered.

Baby showers?

Mommy Ong

My bestfriend is throwing a babyshower for me. I know she doesn't make a ton of money so is okay to offer to help pay for things?

When making the invite list- how do you decide who should be invted? We have a lot of friends who we barely see now, but we'd still be invited to their wedding.
My husbands friend is planning a guys shower (golfing and bbq- no presents). But a lot of them have wifes that I know but aren't get together type of friends. Should they be invited?

Answer
I would not offer to help to pay. It may embarass her, seriously. Let her do what she can do as this is her gift to you and your baby!! You might want to help her brainstorm ways of throwing a great shower that isn't over-the-top expense-wise! (Afterall it isn't about how much money you put it, its about the effort. The best parties aren't ones with the fanciest cake or food....they are the ones with the best mix of people!)

Invite anyone you want there....anyone that has a stake in this baby. That would include your husband's friends wives if you want them there. If they have other plans they will decline on the RSVP (and definately enforce a RSVP if your hostess is on a budget because it would be a shame if she over-prepared for the shower and spent a lot of time and money on food that wasn't eaten!)

Hope that helped!

What is a naming ceremony?

Kelsey Yes

my mother and i have been invited to a naming ceromony what exactly is it

Answer
It is like a baptism. I have been to pagan naming ceremonies and that is when the child is introduced formally to the community. Bring a nice gift for the mom and the baby... usually something that when they can use when they are older.

What is a jewish naming ceremony?

liz m

im invited to a jewish naming ceremony for a boy. sure it sounds self explanatory but do you usually take gifts money etc? im not familiar with the religion at all and i do not want to be rude and show unprepared.
the baby boy is 3 months old. so im all confused. maybe it's the fact that the parents are 1 jewish and 1 catholic.?? i thought he would be circumcised by now.

Answer
You probably mean a bris. This is where the eight-day-old boy is circumcised and given his Hebrew name. A naming ceremony itself would only be done for a girl.

So--be prepared for a small amount of crying from the baby (and possibly the mom), but don't worry--you won't actually see what's happening.

As far as a gift--that's a thoughtful idea. Pretty much anything is fine--a nice baby outfit, toy, etc. If you want to give money, amounts in multiples of $18 are the best, since the numerical value of the letters which spell "life" in Hebrew is 18.

Oh, and come hungry--like every other event in Judaism, we eat!

baby gift idea for a couple from India?

leigh

Our neighbors from India are expecting a baby. Are there any traditional Indian baby gifts? With being so far away from their families, they are feeling homesick. I would like to give them a gift that reminds them from home. I would rather not ask them because I want to surprise them.

Answer
If its still some time in delivery, you can give some good traditional Indian mythological books for the mom-to-be to read.
For kid: You can gift a silver spoon/bowl (small size...as if its just meant for kid) along with a silver idol of diety such as Ganesh/Krishna. You can also gift engraved sterling silver baby cups, dumbell rattles, feeding spoons, and loop spoons or select a silverplated Lunt Piggy bank, engraved.
One more thing: In India, traditionally people don't buy cloths before birth , reason being first let God give Kid, and then only we should be making preperations for him/her. (though things are changing now).
I am really touched by the way you are thinking for the gift......

What does she like that is more readily available in the US than India? Would she like a very good handbag? Would she prefer a kitchen appliance? How about a nice watch? I'm sure having you return to India will be the best gift you can give her no matter what you bring.

Ideas for baby shower gift?

creyesange

i don't get furniture when i give shower gifts. i can't afford it. this upcoming baby shower is my future niece or nephew. the problem is my brother {the father} wants to know what the baby is, but the mom does not.

the usual shower gift i get is 3 outfits. 1 for newborn, 6 months and a year, and a blanket.

the problem is that with all other baby showers i've been to everybody knew what they were having, and i can get really cute stuff for girls, or boys. but honestly i don't really like the stuff they have for neutral babies.
not that i mean to be critical, but, well, for example if i shop for a girl i can get little cupcakes and kitties in tutus with crowns etc.
or if i shop for a boy theni can get dogs playing baseball, or dinosaurs, or little monsters or a million other stuff.

but the stuff for neutrals i find to be limited. there aren't nearly as many options for them.

what should i do? any ideas?
to the person who suggested making a blanket, that sounds like a great idea but it's already taken. my mom makes blanket and even matching pillow.

Answer
You can get a 5 pack of plain white onesies. They work for both boys or girls and my sister has two or three for her son which she loves. She uses them with plaid shorts that she can't find a top to match and for pictures where the outfit needs to be a solid color.

You can also get a bouncer. Bouncer are a great gift because they are SO helpful! My sister got one that's baby blue and has green and yellow stars on it. It would work great for a boy or girl and it was only $25 at Wal-Mart. You can probably get it even cheaper on Black Friday or right before Christmas. You can also get a Bumbo chair, which won't be used until the baby is about 3 or 4 months old but they are helpful as well. Wal-Mart has them for $35, but with Black Friday and Christmas coming up I'm sure they will go on sale. If you have a Once Upon a Child nearby they also have them there brand new for $23. They come in pink, blue, and green. The green would work for either a boy or girl.

Baby shower.....what?

taryntino

I will have to throw a baby shower for a good friend of mine some months from now. I've never been to one and I know nothing about them. Someone told me there were games involved.
I'm looking for a clear idea of what its about. What will people expect me to do? I assume drinking is inappropriate, right? Help me out, Im not much for planning social events and I am definately not a baby person.
She's a good friend and I really want to make this not lame for her.

Answer
Okay, baby showers. Yes they are mostly about the games. That and the gifts. Everyone brings a gift for the baby. You go and drink punch and have little snacks.. like any reception type thing. Then you play these games that have to deal with babies. There are little gifts and prizes for those who win(small little things for a girl... becuase only girls come to baby showers.. such as little lotions, maybe decorated box, perfume.. that type of thing.) Games that i have seen done are:

The Word Game: First, everyone has a little token. Whether it be a litle plastic wring, a sticker, a little tiny plastic pacifier on a necklace.. doesnt matter. The goal of the game is not to say the word "baby" (or whatever word you pick) for the whole shower.. which is kinda fun. But when someone hears you say the word, they get to take your token. Then at the end of hte shower, whoever has the most tokens, wins.

The Baby Food Tester: For this game you need to go out and buy little jars of baby food. Probably the ones that only have one thing in them. Not the meals. You will take them either out of the jars, or take off the labels, so that people dont know what they are. Everyone will sit in a circle and try to figure out which flavors each one is.. whether by tasting it(you might need little sample spoons or something), smelling it, or just looking. Whatever. Whoever has the most correct wins.

The Diaper Game : haha. i loved this one, but all of my sisters thought it was disgusting. But what it is, you need soem diapers, all different kinds of chocolate bars and a microwave. Haha, you smush up the candy bar in the diaper.. melt it a little and everything, make it look authentic. lol... and then everyone takes turns smelling it or looking at it and trying to figure out what type of bar it is.. use snickers, and milky ways, and take 5 and whatevaer other kind of chocolate bar. This is hilarious. Some people refuse to put their noses up to it. Anyway, whoever has the most right, wins.

The Bottle Game: Youll need bottles and some kind of juice. For this one you will give everyone who wants to do it a bottle half full or less (cuz this takes FOREVER if you do more) and have them race to see who can finish off the bottle fastest. Only drinking from it.

The Belly Guesser: you have everyone try to figure out how many squares of toilet paper it would take to get around the pregnant ladies belly. This one is funny becuase EVERYONE guess to low. .. they dont want any hurt feelings. lol. But yeah, you actually do it to her afterwards, and whoever is the closest wins.

How Many in the Jar: You put a bunch of whatever in a jar(maybe diaper pins, pacifiers, something babyish) and have everyone guess how many there are. Once again, whoever is closest wins.

Okay, so those are just some of the games that i remember. But you dont have to use all of them. A baby shower isnt supposed to have a BUNCH of games over and over agian. You mostly just sit around, chilling out and snacking, everyone talking.. and then you play a coupel games in between.. some people will say that they dont want to play, and thats fine.

Then after that you will spend a long time opening all the gifts and oohing and aahhing with each other. Their pretty much just socializing.

One little tip though, get more than one prize for each game you decide to play.. becuase there is a definite posibility for ties. Just in case, you know?

Alrighty, well i just wrote ALOT and i hope that it helped you. If you need anymore help planning the shower i would love to give more advice. You can go ahead and email me over this. And good luck!

*edit*
Oh, and i was looking at that website and i forgot about one.. This one is super super awesome. That baby book idea. You have a book that each person who comes can write some kind of advice on there. Its a great thing for a new mom. Especially when there are older more knowing guests there, such as friends of the mom or something.

People who with hold baby gift until baby is born?

-

Why would you say you have a gift, then a month after a baby shower say "I'm gonna give it to you but only when I meet the baby!"
That is exactly what a few of my co-workers have said, I find it odd that they are with holding gifts when the new mom needs to know what she still had to purchase prior to the baby's arrival. Trying to figure out the logic here because the new mom may very well not want a boat load of visitors in the first few weeks after giving birth, right? So... Is it being pushy of these people or "rude" of the mother to be annoyed?

Answer
A baby gift is just that - a gift. It's not an obligation. It's not something to hold a grudge over.

I agree that a new mom should not have a boatload of visitors in the first few weeks (or months) after giving birth, especially since the baby's immune system is vulnerable, and the mom is worn out. If they want to save their presents until they actually meet the baby, they may have to wait quite a while. If they don't want to wait, too bad.

any ideas for gift of baby new born ?

Olga sweet

thanks.

Answer
you can choose :
- diary baby >>> mom can write every day about her baby.
- blanket >>> this is usually use until 2 years old
- pillows, a lot of cute pillows for baby,
- one set tools for baby food, for baby bath, or toy for new born baby
- rocker baby or baby car seat, its very helping,
- towel,
etc,..

hope its help...

Good luck!

Mom-to-be being too picky?

ladydianne

I am throwing a baby shower for a friend who is expecting twins. Is it rude if I include on the invitation the following:

Mommy has been overwhelmed with the generous amount of clothing gifts that she has received and since the boys can share clothes but cannot share other things she has requested that you consider purchasing one of the many non-clothing items on the registry.

I do not want to offend guests, but my friend is right...the boys cannot share high chairs or bouncy seats etc. Is it rude to say this or is there a better way to say it? I just do not want to be offensive.

Answer
Yes it's rude. Just don't include clothes on the gift registry and if she gets too many clothes she can always exchange them for something else or sell them on craigslist/ebay and use the money for something she needs. Telling people what to buy a person takes all the joy out of gifting.

TWIN SISTER as MAID OF HONOR?

fallinginl

I dislike my twin sister a lot at times. I'm getting married, and my mom expects me to have her as my maid of honor... but the thing is I just don't like her like that. Growing up with her was hell. When she was nice to me, I was a huge idiot, and told her everything and trusted her. As soon as we got in a fight, she used all she knew about me and threatened to tell my folks on me. And I was SUCH an idiot to keep doing this to her all the times. I ALWAYS TRUSTED HER, because I thought maybe she would change. When we were kids, I lost my Walkman, and she had a cd player [gift from an aunt] and her walkman that our folks bought us, and so she gave me her walkman. but every time we got in an argument she demanded it back, and threatened to tell my mother that i lost mine. she was always super bossy, and it hurt a lot. I'm not saying I was perfect or a saint or anything. I had my little moments, but I never ever wanted to hurt her the way she did to me. I just had this little hope that she would change :(( And she's so two faced. No one ever beliees the way she acts. Everyone thinks she's so quiet and sweet, and except for my immediate family, no one knows her real behavior. She stole all of my best friends I've had for years and tried to leave me out of their convos and stuff, and got mad if I talked to her friends. I know I seem jealous and to be honest, I was [AM!]. My mother wants her to be my maid of honor. But I was thinking of giving that title to one of my closest friends. But my mom is super mad and she said she won't come to the wedding unless my twin is the maid of honor. My mom never got along with her sister either, and my aunt became her maid of honor too. Apparently it looks bad. I don't know what to do!

Answer
This is your life too and you need to grow a backbone because over the course of your life you will find that people will bully others (you) into getting what they want. Now is the time to start being assertive. This wedding is for you and your intended. Hopefully he is the kind to stand by you which helps. Make the decision to pick someone YOU want and ask your fiance to back you up on it. Being a twin is not some automatic invitation to be the maid of honor. I bet anything you would not be chosen to be hers.
It is all a matter of having confidence in yourself. Do some reading on how to be assertive because it will help give you confidence and don't forget to ask your man to speak up for you if this becomes a problem. It is simple, your twin is not your best friend, someone else is. That is all you have to say.

Is my 3 year old kid gifted?

Nathan

I have 3 year old twin boys, one of which I believe may be gifted. He will be 4 on October 31st.

Here's why I may think he's gifted:
I have heard him count from 1-500 and having questioned him, I believe he could go into thousands if time allowed. He can also identify numbers, I wrote down 2096 on a page and he confidently told me two thousand and ninety six.
- He is persistent, he sets himself little projects and tasks which he always sees through
- He is always trying to gain more knowledge. He reads over-sized fact books like the Guinness book of records or discovery channel books, and will pick out pages for me to read to him. And often he will re-read the paragraph I have just read; at first I was unsure if it was him remembering or not, but the other day I found him reading diary of a wimpy kid to his baby brother..
- He has a wide vocabulary. And despite being born 2 months prematurely he said his first words long before the average child would (He began saying dada at 8 months chronological age, 6 months adjusted age) He does have a slight speech impediment though.
- He always has trouble sleeping, and I have read gifted children often have problems with insomnia. I have problems with insomnia, and always achieved well, but I do not know my IQ, nor have I ever been labeled gifted.
- Another thing I notice is that he has a great memory. He can remember New York last year, names of people there, places we ate and visited and even what we watched on the plane. He also claims to remember his 2nd birthday like the cake, the games and who came... not sure if that's because he has seen the pictures on the apple tv though

Does he sound gifted? Can a 3 year old take an IQ test?
By a year old he could say at least 10 words, whereas his twin brother only said his first word the day after he turned 1.

Answer
Congratulations, first off, on the twins! I have two younger twin brothers, so I'm sure they must keep you busy!

Your little one certainly sounds gifted. Here is a site on "Early Signs of Giftedness":

http://www.brainy-child.com/expert/early-signs-giftedness.shtml

Gifted children often show an interest in language, letters, reading, numbers, and math from an early age, and tend to be highly motivated for their age. But in spite of this intellectual precociousness, there is still an emotional maturity that may not be fully present in a gifted three-year-old. For this reason, I was told by two different psychologists, it's best to wait on IQ testing until the child is nearing his fifth birthday. I had my two kids tested when they were getting ready to enter kindergarten. I didn't end up doing anything with those scores. I didn't need them for preschool admittance or anything, and I didn't enroll them in any special programs, my wife and I were just curious, and it helped us to adjust our parenting style appropriately. Sometimes I think our kids could have really benefited from being in a group with other kids with similar intellectual strengths and motivations, but then again resources are scarce, especially depending on what part of the country you're in. Giftedness is still not such a big topic.

Anyway, so as a fellow dad of gifted kids, I'd say hold off another year or two until you take your son for an IQ test.

Also, about giftedness. As a parent, I jumped at everything I thought was a display of advanced intelligence in my kids. I did a lot of reading and was reminded by a wise old sage that just because a gifted kid may be reading way ahead of his time, he may struggle with other things and seem developmentally delayed in those ways. The giftedness may not be across the board, in every facet of development.

And with the speech impediment--one of my brothers had a stammering problem all his life, which unfortunately made him very self conscious because of the bad time he got about it as a kid, but he was brilliant and was in Mensa. If it's bad enough to require a visit to a speech pathologist, then go that route. But your son is so young, it is more than likely to just resolve itself with time.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your little ones! Watching them grow is the most amazing journey!Parent

what should i gift mom & dad on their 25th marriage anniversary?

Mitesh

price range < Rs.15000 ( 250$ )

Answer
Depends on what they like and what you can spend. I'm a big fan of "theme" gifts - like, if they like wine, get them your favorite bottle, a wine saver pump (pumps out the air if you don't drink the whole bottle, they are a life saver!) and a vinturi aerator (the best wine gadget out there, actually, to aerate wine if you don't have time to decant).

So, just think about what makes them the most happy and supplement it with thoughtful gifts.

You can check out some ideas at http://www.ineedgiftideas.com, they have different themes for idea starters, etc

Baby Shower Gift Ideas?

Lila

I'm going to a baby shower for 2 girls I work with, that I really don't know too well. One of them I barely know at all.

Any ideas on some gifts that don't cost much?

Answer
$10 ideas:
- gift basket with lotion, wipes, baby wash, baby powder, small toy
- Towels with washcloths. You should be able to get 2 towels and 4 washcloths for this price.
- small package of diapers
- package of recieving blankets and a small package of pascifiers.
- baby bathtub

$20 ideas:
You could make a really pretty gift basket of different themes.
- Small package of diapers, wipes, powder, diaper rash cream, and perhaps some baby motrin if there is money left.
- Johnson & Johnson baby care set. Has grooming needs and medical supplies in a convient carrying case.
- Walmart has a Fisher price baby monitor for $19.88
- baby bathtub filled with baby wash, wash cloths, a hooded towel, and some baby lotion

$25 ideas:
- Boppy pillow
- Diaper Genie
- lower grade bouncy seat
- that activity mat with the lion on it

Shower and gifts for 2nd baby?

Lisa D

We have a baby boy who is 14 months old, I'm due in about a month with a baby girl ( this will be our last, I am planning to have a permanent procedure).I have gotten some gifts from people ( a good friend, and others who aren't really much a part of our life currently 6 people). We had a baby shower with my son and it helped out lots, but when I got pregnant with my daughter, I knew I probably should not have another because of the closeness in time/age. At this point though, I'm a little disappointed because we haven't received cards in the mail etc.I have plenty of clothes handed down from my niece and some outfits that were bought for her too. I had a job in January but they let me go in February, afterward, I looked for work, but ultimately gave up because I was getting no calls and the economy was bad anyway, so I have rarely had the opportunity to buy things for her.I know my parents and sister and brother in law and my husbands parents are going to have me some much needed items probably in a couple of weeks, and will probably receive some gifts after my baby girl is born, but is it really bad to be
disappointed that you aren't receiving as many good wishes as before?
Did you have a second baby shower regardless of the 2nd babys gender?
basically all I am hoping for is simple things like diapers, wipes, bath items a few girly sheets/blankets and a little money or gift cards to choose some needed items myself.
i mean choose needed items myself for my baby.

Answer
I do not believe in having a shower for each baby you have, and I don't know how that became such a common thing. No, every baby does not deserve a shower; it becomes over-kill and looks to family and friends like you are trolling for gifts. I am invited to a shower next month for a mother who is expecting her third girl in 5 years. I was also invited to the other two showers, and quite frankly, I am sick of having to buy her things! Yes I'm happy for her, yes I know what a joy it is, but no I should not have to treat you like a new mother when you are not.

I understand that it is disappointing not to receive 'well wishes' (and lets face it by well wishes you mean presents) for subsequent children as you do with your first. However that's how it is. The first baby is not only a baby, it is you and your partner becoming parents, you starting a family, etc. With subsequent children, you are already parents, you already have a family, you are just adding to it. No that this new baby isn't special, but you have to remember that this baby is more special to you and your family than it is to everyone else. You should not expect other people to provide for your baby, job or no job. The economy is hard on all of us. Go to yard sales, and Good Will. Sorry to sound harsh, but it's the truth.

And before people start yelling that I just don't understand... I have 3 children, with one shower. And if you think it is bad with the second, be glad you aren't having another. With the third, all you get is a few empty cards and congratulatory e-mails, which really is all that should be expected.

I'm very sorry to sound so rude, but I just want to be hinest with you. I of course wish you a heathy pregnancy, a heathy baby, and the best of luck!

Baby Shower Hostess gifts etiquette HELP?

Em

I have 4 friends throwing me a baby shower. They are my closest friends. On the invitation, it shows only one hostess, but the other 3 have apparently put in a lot of time and effort. I'm not exactly sure about gifts to give them and when? I'm also giving my step mom a gift because she was in charge of the cake (which means she was a part of the shower-giving.) I have some gift bags that all have a Bath & Body Works hand soap, mini candle, mini antibacterial hand sanitizer, and some cry babies gum. I'm going to another store today to pick up some bath salts to add to the bag. Do you think this is sufficient? I'd like to go a bit more elaborate but I'm about to go on maternity leave and money is tight anyways. Do you think this is enough to show my appreciation? I know they spent a lot of money and time. I just don't want to disappoint....Also- do i bring the gift bags TO the shower and give to them after, or do I wait and give them at a later date? Thanks!

Answer
Write out a meaningful and heartfelt card for each of them. Tell them specific things about the shower that made it special to you. Include those with the gift bags.

Etiquette is that "Thank you" gifts to hosts or hostesses should be fairly small. If the gifts are too large it won't feel like appreciation, but more like a "pay you back".

If you bring them to the shower, which is acceptable, wait until all the guests have left to give them. If you wait until after make sure they are delivered (face-to-face is a nice touch) no more than 2 weeks after the shower.

Exchanging baby shower gift etiquette!?

Elisheva

The in-laws bought us a car seat for the baby shower, and it was not the one on our registry. MIL said it was because the one we picked out was too big (it was not, it is a convertible car seat 5lbs-40lbs). Th one they bought was a carrier car seat that fixes to stroller that we don't have and only goes to 30lbs. It's not what we want and are planning to exchange it for the one we do want. They are the same price. When I told her that the car seat we picked out is convertible..etc.. she didn't offer a gift receipt or to exchange it.
So do you think I should tell them we plan to exchange it, or just wait until they see it, and say "yeah we ended up getting the one we wanted"? It is getting exchanged, just not sure how to explain it, or if that is even necessary at all. They can be touchy, so I don't know how to handle it. We're all adults, and I just want them to not feel we are not grateful.
Thank you! :)

Answer
Once you receive a gift, it is yours to do with as you will. If the item isn't suitable for whatever reason, you can exchange it, return it, regift it, donate it to charity or throw it out. But you thank the giver politely for the original gift.

(IF MIL notices at a later date that you're using a different carseat, you can just say that you found her choice didn't work well for you, so you exchanged it. But no need to bring it up until/unless she does.)

Unique birthday gift ideas for mom?

My mom's b-day is coming up in a couple weeks and i'm looking for ideas as to what to get her. I am so bad at gift ideas. I don't want to buy anything online and i'm only looking to spend a minimum of $100. Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Answer
hi,
buying for my mum is really quite hard considering what she already has got, but last years for my mums birthday me and my sister joined together and brought her various different gifts and wrapped them up and put them in a bag, she loved it ..
we got her, candles, clothes, jewellery, books, slippers, hot choclate, mug, hot water bottle, makeup and gloves.
if you don't fancy doing that then maybe something which is to do with a favourite hobby/sport of your mums, so say she is into golf like my mates dad , then what my mate did was get her dad some golf balls, golf book and a couple golf clubs she said he loved them so thats an idea.

but ...

ithink what would be lovley is to buy a photo frame/album and put as many photos of friends/family people close to your mum inside and i'm sure she would love it x hope i helped :)

How do you handle the death of an infant around christmas?

carell_200

My great granddaughter died this morning at 2 months old.... Her mother will turn 20 on the 20th of this month, plus christmas is coming soon. How do people handle birthdays and holidays when a baby has just died... I had a baby die years ago but it wasn't during the holidays... I am 3 credits short of a bachelors degree in counseling but dont really know the answer to this... Should you still give a present for the infant... If anyone knows the protocol for something like this, I would appreciate some feedback. Thank you and happy holidays....
I want to clarify what I meant as a gift.... For example... after i lost my baby, I bought an ornament that looked like a cradle and i had my babys' name and birthdate engraved on it as a memorial... That's the kind of gift I was thinking of.... Sorry for not making that clearer...

Answer
This is a hard question, and one I would say that would depend alot on the parents of the child. They will be in deep mourning and may not feel like celebrating anything at all, neither a birthday or Christmas. I would not give a present for the infant unless it was something like, perhaps, a tree planted in their honor or a star named for the child...
Be kind, be supportive of any decision they might make. Do not force them to celebrate any holiday or occassion if they don't want to, but also do not let them fall into depression. Certainly observe your daughter's birthday, and give gifts to the parents for Christmas. A nice remembrance gift in honor the baby would probably be fine.

Miscarriage memorial- What kind of tree should I plant for our miscarriage memorial?

Jessica

I just recently suffered from a miscarriage. Our sweet baby's funeral is in a couple of weeks, the hospital performs a burial service for all of the miscarried babies for that month, and the burial site is in the hospital cemetery. We would like to have our own memorial site that is just for our baby. We are going to plant a tree in our yard.

I would like a tree that has beautiful flowers on it. I need ideas of what kind of tree would be good for this though. Help!!
Thank you!

Answer
First of all, I'm sorry for your loss.

Five years ago, my first pregnancy was with twins, and there were serious complications -- at 25 weeks, I gave birth to 1 stillborn baby and one who lived only 10 days. Afterwards, we received a weeping cherry tree as a gift from some friends, and planted it in our yard (see images at http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=yfp-t-701&va=weeping+cherry+tree). It's very healthy, and looks great year round, and in the early spring it's covered with beautiful and fragrant light pink cherry blossoms. It attracts birds, bees, and butterflies galore. I would highly recommend the same type of tree. Although expensive, I think, they make nice memorial trees.

Sorry again for your loss!

EDIT -- Although everyone is entitled to their opinions, I disagree with CarbonDated (and you obviously do too, or you wouldn't have asked the question!). The tree we planted does not remind me of my deceased children in a negative way. It's been 5 years -- although I'll never ever forget them, I've grieved, moved on, and healed -- it's not like I burst into tears every time I see the tree (which is every single day). Instead, the tree is a beautiful living thing that inspires me to focus on LIFE, not death. I hope the same will be true for you.

What do we think about a gender reveal baby shower?

gift for baby shower boy on Baby Shower Favors for Girls ~ Top 10 Homemade Ideas for a Girl Baby ...
gift for baby shower boy image

Daniella

My friend and I are planning her baby shower and shes having a boy. after she got pregnant she created a registry for both a boy and a girl. So her husband and mine have been helping me prep the nursery for her. We decided that i would know the gender but she wouldnt so on the day of her babyshower her first gift would reveal what it is. The shower would be themed bumble bees for no apparent reason other than it wouldnt give the gender away until shes ready to find out. After she would be able to come home and we will show her the fully completed nursery that just needs touch ups and the gifts from her baby shower can be put away. Does that sound reasonable? She thought it would be cool if her husband was the one to tell me the gender before she even knew because it would help him bond woth the baby even though shes carrying it. Please give me elaborated thoughts!

Answer
AMAZING IDEA!! I love it! Your friend will be seriously head over hills for the party. Might I make a suggestion though? Do a blue cake with white icing and have her cut the cake to discover the gender :)

What would be a meaningful, unique gift to give at a baby shower?

My brother and his girlfriend (who I think is a sweetie) are expecting a baby in January. Me and my sister are throwing both of them a baby shower later in November, and I would like some ideas for a nice gift for them and baby. They just got their own place and they're all excited. They are having a boy. My brother will be at the shower, and they have a dragon theme for the nursery, but I cant find any dragon gifts online or in stores. Any ideas?

Answer
A young tree to plant in the baby's honor at your brother's and girlfriend's new home. Japanese maple or jade tree for honor.

How many toys should we get my son for his first x-mas?

Dunthat

I don't want him to be spoiled and I know other family members are going to get him toys. This is my first baby and I am just wondering what other parents do :) He will be 9 months old around x-mas.What is something cool mom and dad could get him to make sure we get him the best toy? lol.

Answer
He's not going to remember anything you get him. My husband and I didn't get my daughter a single holiday gift for her first Xmas. There was enough stuff coming from other people and if we added to the pile it would have been embarrassing overkill. As it was, we have pictures of her with fantastic toys in the background while she spent hours playing with a big box. If you want to get her the BEST present, the one she'll enjoy the most that day, buy her a box. If you want to get her the biggest piece of plastic, go for a plastic stove/kitchen set thing. If you want to get her the most meaningful gift, give her a family membership to the zoo, the local children's museum, the aquarium, etc.

What should I serve at my 3 year old's princess birthday party?

gift for 90 year old mom on Knit Jones: New Job, New Clothes!
gift for 90 year old mom image

Lynn C

I have invited 90 people, and there will be approximately 20 little kids. I plan to do pb&j, and also cucumber&cream cheese sandwiches cut into hearts and stars. I also was thinking chicken salad sandwiches for the adults. But other than that, I am not sure. I definitely need some variety, but I don't want to do only chicken salad, and have to make 60 of those. I'd rather do smaller groupings of several dishes.

Answer
You're ready... your princess has invited the belles of the ball to the finest Princess Birthday Party of the year. You've purchased decorations, planned a few games and have some lovely take home gifts for your guests. Now it's time to plan the finest menu for your royal princess and her court. Let's make it so fabulous that the girls will remember this day when they're planning their future daughter's parties and one that will make your princess throw her hands around your neck and say, "Oh mom! You're the best ever!"

What follows are 5 tips for you in creating the menu of the decade for your princess birthday party.

1. Keep it simple. The last thing you need on a busy day is for you to be running around like crazy trying to make cherries flambé or tiramisu with crème fraise. However, with a little creative planning, you can make something spectacular and still be able to take photos of the lovely girls eating your birthday dainties. There are SO many recipes available at your fingertips that are not only delicious but easy to make with items you probably have in the house or can pick up in your local grocery store at minimal cost (another key!). You can just punch a name of a recipe into your google search box and hundreds of recipes will pop up. Just keep it simple!

2. Presentation is everything. Think about it, mom. A peanut butter sandwich is nice, but, make that sandwich and cut it with petite cookie cutters into various princessly shapes and you have something spectacular. Even just cutting the sandwiches with a glass into a circle and then cutting the circles in half would work. Display them nicely on a glass plate with some red grapes or flowers and it's no longer just a boring sandwich but a delicacy that's a delight to look at AND eat.

3. Throw the "no sugar" rule out the window. Ok, I'll get hate mail for this one but c'mon mom! Your princess only has the bash of the century once a year, so break the rules a little and provide something sweet to eat. Balance it out with a lower sugar drink and other dainties that aren't sugar laden.

4. Make the drink pink! Pink lemonade, pink Kool-Aid, pink soda... anything pink in a clear plastic cup and you'll be the coolest mom on the block. Float a half of a strawberry in the cup and you may as well get a revolving door to your house. You'll be the hit of the neighborhood!

5. Work with a time line and schedule for the day of the party. A checklist of what you'll be serving and when you need to pull it out of the freezer or fridge, what goes where, etc., and how long each thing takes will insure that you won't forget any of the details and insure that you won't go to open the fridge for a late night snack after your princess is in dream land and see the strawberries that you meant to put in the royal goblets.

I live in Virginia and I wanted to know if I could take my moms 300k (whatever amount) and buy a house under my name. I have heard you will be taxed like 30%.... that there is no such thing as free money. How can i get around this tax issue and is it even true?

Answer
it is called the gift tax. the most that one person Can give another during a single year is 12K with out being taxed. though your mom could also give money to your spouse and you could get money from your dad as well. I don't know of a way around this. if you tried to just take the money and spend it, I'm not going to say you would get caught but it would raise some red flags.

Every year my mom buys my sister and I gifts for christmas I would ask her what she wants and she would say nothing just do what you are suppose to do. But I know deep inside she wants a gift or something more. Her favorite color is burgundy. The ideas I have is to get her a real diamond bracelet, A designer handbag, or clothes. Any other ideas? Please No rude comments!!

What are some great ideas for an inexpensive baby shower?

meowmeow

I am planning a baby shower for my younger sister. I have asked numerous times for her input as of what colors she would prefer, but mostly just a list of people she would like there. I never received them and have decided I am on my own planning this baby shower now. I haven't attended a baby shower for a few years and can't decide where to begin. I would love some ideas or suggestions of where to begin.

She is having a girl (Willow) and is due that the very beginning of November.

Thank you so much in advance!

Answer
Decide on a location, time, and place first of all. Once you have decided that and booked the location decide on a theme or color scheme for the shower so you can buy invitations and get them sent out to the guests as soon as possible.

After a theme or color scheme has been decided on and the invitations have been sent out, go ahead and search for decorations. Purchase them if you can find them cheap or on sale or if you think they will be sold out in a few days or weeks. You don't really need much decorations, just some balloons, streamer, and tablecloths. You can buy confetti to spread around on the tabletops or paper centerpieces from party stores as well.

Food is probably the next thing you need to consider. Make out a list of everything you want to have. The food style is your choice and I've seen and heard it done many different ways. Most baby showers just have finger foods (like fruit and veggie trays, cheese and crackers, etc.). I've seen some people have full meals however and then others have planned the food around the baby shower theme (example, if the baby shower theme is monkeys the food will be "monkey related"). Go ahead and figure out the design and flavor of the cake you want and purchase or put a down-payment on it at the time you decide on food. You will also need to determine what you want to do about drinks. I've seen multiple things here as well and the sky is your limit; bottled water, punch, soda, tea, lemonade, Kool-Aid, etc. You can have a combination of those choices as well. Also don't forget to purchase the cups, silverwear, plates, and napkins.

After all of that has been done there isn't much left to do besides some little odds and ends. If you want to play baby shower games then you need to decide on which games you want to play (there are tons of ideas on Google) and if you are going to give out prizes then those need to be purchased. You can purchase small and cheap presents such as a $5 gift card to somewhere, a small candle, a candy bar, etc. You might also want to consider a "thank you" gift to guests but this isn't necessary. For my sister's baby shower we just had mints in a bowl beside the door that were wrapped in a white wrapper that said "It's a Boy". I went to another baby shower where the gifts were small plastic baby bottles with mints in them and yet another where a napkin was pinned together with a safety pin to look like a diaper and there were Hershey Kisses inside of the napkin diaper.

On the day of the shower make sure you have plenty of cameras/batteries to take pictures with, a trash can on hand for throwing away items, and a pen and piece of paper in order to write down who gave what presents to the mother-to-be.

Answer
If you have watched a video before, there are 3 different things you can do to try and find a
video which you've previously watched -- assuming that
you haven't emptied out your cache. Not only that, you
can have those results appear either: 1) in alphabetical
order, 2) chronological order, or 3) as photo thumbnails:

-- ALPHABETICALLY (tons of results) --
highlight the URL address bar on top, then simply type
in the word "youtube''. From those results, you will see:
-- every YouTube address you typed
-- every YouTube channel you visited
-- every YouTube video you watched
but it will be ugly YouTube code like "v=Ab1Cd2eF3Gh".

-- CHRONOLOGICALLY (many results) --
simply click on your internet browser's ''History" button
or tap "CTRL" and the letter "H" on your keyboard, and
you will get a daily list of every website which you have
visited. Every YouTube video will be mixed in with all of
the different websites, but it'll actually be easier for you
to locate that particular video -- because everything will
be displayed in ''plain" English. And because each and
every YouTube video is in fact its own website, you will
also be able to see the full title of each video.

-- PHOTO THUMBNAILS (few results) --
when you're "signed-in" on YouTube, the top right of all
YouTube pages display your "username'' in a rectangle.
Click on that, and then "Favorites". On the left side will
be "History", (3 lines below the grayed "Favorites" line).
If you click that, you'll see thumbs of videos that you've
viewed while signed-in -- but only the more recent ones
(although many videos could date back to months ago).
The reason for that is because everytime you open/exit
YouTube, your history is ''semi-cleared'' and starts over.
It's worth a try, because the vid you're looking for might
be a "Related Video" of something you've already seen.

Believe it or not, you can even see that ''viewing history"
