How many toys should we get my son for his first x-mas?

I don't want him to be spoiled and I know other family members are going to get him toys.This is my first baby and I am just wondering what other parents do :) He will be 9 months old around x-mas.What is something cool mom and dad could get him to make sure we get him the best toy? lol.

He's not going to remember anything you get him. My husband and I didn't get my daughter a single holiday gift for her first Xmas. There was enough stuff coming from other people and if we added to the pile it would have been embarrassing overkill. As it was, we have pictures of her with fantastic toys in the background while she spent hours playing with a big box. If you want to get her the BEST present, the one she'll enjoy the most that day, buy her a box. If you want to get her the biggest piece of plastic, go for a plastic stove/kitchen set thing. If you want to get her the most meaningful gift, give her a family membership to the zoo, the local children's museum, the aquarium, etc.
