I just bought two really nice children's books for the newborn daughter of a really good friend and I am looking for a nice poem or quote or message to inscribe in the books. Any suggestions?
Answer

âThe child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there hasn't been, and until the end of the world there will not be, another child like him.â
-Pablo Casals
âChildren are the hands by which we take hold of heaven.â
-Henry Ward Beecher
âA baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living forâ

CATHOLICS can one do enough good works to get to Heaven?
St.Jeb
Is it possible for a human being to do enough good works to gain salvation?
Why would Christ of had to die on the Cross if He intended us to cooperate in saving grace?
Don't confuse justification which happens ONLY AFTER one has received the gift of salvation. One cannot go to church enough, volunteer enough, be good enough to ever warrant salvation! Those deeds are the RESULT of being saved, not because you WANT to be saved.
Answer
No need to restrict this question to Catholics! All the Muslims think they must do more good works than bad deeds to get to their paradise! All those who believe in reincarnation think they must improve all the time if they are not to come back as an insect or a baby that will be aborted before it's born.
The Hebrew scriptures exposes the folly of a works-based system of salvation. Isaiah the prophet told God's own covenant people, "All our righteous acts are as filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away." (Isa. 64:6) That passage is quoted by the apostle Paul in Romans 3:10 to prove that everyone is under sin and nothing we try to do will rid us of that condemnation - only by putting faith in what Jesus did to secure our pardon can be be transferred from judgment to life. But once we do that, once the Holy Spirit has convicted us of our sin and we agree with God's verdict on us, THEN we begin to do the good works God foreordained that we would do! THEN whatever good works we do are truly good because God gets all the glory from them! Faith has to come first. Then we walk by faith, not works, even though we do good works. As you say, they are the result of being saved, not because we're trying to be saved!
