My six year old came home today and asked how do babies come out. Apparently a boy at school told her that they cut the belly button. LOL So how do I explain to her how the process actually goes so that she actually understands it.

I strongly believe in telling the truth on an age appropriate level. First, I would tell her, no babies do not ever come out of the belly button. There are different ways that babies are delivered. Most babies are delivered by a doctor, or midwife. IF she needs more explanation she will follow up with another question.
Do not say tummy, I hate hate hate that, and kids will feel that you either don't know or are a liar when they find out that in fact a baby is never in the tummy; the uterus or womb is completely different than the stomach which is part of the GI tract.
You can tell her that girls have 3 holes down there, while boys only have 2. One is for pee which is the urethra, one is for poo which is the anus, and the last hole is the vagina, and this is a muscular organ that stretches for a baby to be able to come out. The vagina is the middle hole.
Also if she follows up about the belly button, tell her that while in the womb the baby is connected to the mom by the umbilical cord, and this is what causes the belly button. The umbilical cord provides nutrients to the baby from the mom.
I don't believe in being vague or embarrassed, it just makes you look incompetent and uncomfortable, and that line of communication you have with an innocent child will dissipate. I have seen so many teens actually believe that something like yougurt can be used as an effective contraceptive (barrier protection) simply because somewhere along the line the communication between parent and child broke down.
And I have explained where babies come from to my autistic son, and he was 6 when he asked. He had said during lunch at a restaurant with the whole family, hey remember when you swollowed my brother and he grew in your tummy? I said thats not how that happened. My mother jumped in and said babies are a gift from god. I could already see this answer was not satisfactory for my son. So he jumped in and said why doesn't god like my aunt? My mom replies with god loves everybody. So my son says oh yeah then why doesn't god give my aunt a baby, she wants one so where is her gift?
So I say, no babies grow from eggs. He says eggs like in the fridge? I say no, small tiny eggs like in finding nemo with a soft shell, only in people the eggs grow inside instead of outside the body. So he says well what makes the eggs grow? So I say a hormone in the brain called FSH, its in the pituitary. Then he says then what? Then when the egg is grown it moves to the uterus and if fertilized a baby grows. He was satisfied with this answer at 6. He said oh so you didn't swollow a 'baby seed' from the baby doctor. I said no that was a fertility doctor who did give me medicine to help the eggs grow. People don't grow from seeds like plants do.

it seems i have bought all my daughters gifts and spent 600 dollers on her and shes only 1yrs old but totally cant think of anything to get my 6 other babies..if it helps to let u kno i have 5 active boys and 1 mumma cat..mumma cat is 4yrs old and not very active and 4 boys are 1yrs old and my baby boy is 4 months old..please give me some cool gift ideas..FYI i have 100 dollers to spend on them so maybe u can help pick gifts in that price range...they have many beds some heated beds some not..they have 3 elabrate cat trees that theyre not intrested in the least in..except the baby who loves the trees...hope yall can help and merry christmas and happy new year to yall! and your fur babies also!
