Gift for a 12 month baby?

I don't have any a babies yet so I am undecided as of what to get to this lil 12 month baby who stole my heart. I am looking for something were she can learn and have lots of fun.

Any toy that promotes discovery (we got our daughter some baby musical instruments that play and flash: trumpet, piano and guitar. They were $5 each at Toys R Us). She loves playing with them!

Activity tables/gyms are also good to help their coordination. They make them for various age groups.

Books are awesome to get kids to love reading. If you wait until they are at an age for school, they might feel forced to like books and end up hating them...
