gift for baby nephew image
Miki
They are three and will be four in March and May. The gifts also need to be the same to prevent fighting.
PS: Should I get my baby nephew a gift too and if so then what? He will be 1 in March but he was premature and due in May.
Answer
I would get HABA dolls for the nieces. They are very cute, colorful and great for imaginative play. Toddlers as early as 18 mo can already play with them but my 5 year old and 6 year old girlfriend still like to play with them a lot! Also, for their birthday or next Christmas you could get more HABA doll accessories for your nieces. They have various models in different sizes so I'd get 2 models of the same size, then your nieces can pretend the dolls are girlfriends. The prices are around 20-30 $.
As for the nephew I would get him something, too. Even if he is still small and cannot remember, you should get him a little something. How about a Christmas play set from GUND? These are really cute and for 6 mo and up. More details here: http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/Gund-baby-toys.html
In general this website gives good tips and has great gift ideas for babies and toddlers. They do not sell anything but just want to give advise. So maybe just browse there and get some more ideas.
Good luck!

My nephew shows possible signs of autism, my sister seems to be in denial. How do I confront her?
Q. My baby nephew a little over a year old, but he very seldom talks, and prefers to be alone most of the time. His reactions aren't the same as most children, but he is a genuinely beautiful baby boy. I do notice he is into detail when arranging toy blocks and stuff. He also seems to be very gifted with memory. I think he could possibly be savant, but how do I confront my sister on this without hurting her feelings? I feel that he at least deserves an early diagnosis, to get started on some form of therapy already. Somebody please offer advice on how I can approach this sensitive subject with her?
Answer
Make her aware of the abilities that her son possesses, like you said about arranging the blocks and toys. She could get him tested to see if he is gifted, and maybe it will uncover any learning difficulties as well. You should get her to do something soon though. My nephew was the same as this, and he is 4 now. He can hardly speak and can't put a sentence together. He is not social with other children and can be violent if he doesn't get his way. It gets worse if it's not picked up on early. If you hurt your sisters feelings a bit in the short term, it will end up helping her in the long term. Good luck, I hope it works out ok for you, your sister and your nephew.
