My best friends mother who is like my second mom is having a little girl in February. I want to start on a basket now but besides diapers what are some other things that will come in handy?

Answer
A bar of Dove soap (my pediatrician says it is the BEST thing to wash babies with, especially in winter because it moisturizes the skin).

Some baby wash cloths.

A hooded towel.

Hair accessories- I really like the nylon headbands with the little loop that you can clip hair barrettes to (since many girls do not have enough hair even for the velcro clips).

Baby bibs- there are some really cute ones!

Socks/booties.

Hats/bonnets.

Feeding supplies- I like the mesh feeders. They help with teething (put ice or frozen grapes, etc. in it) and you can introduce the baby to other foods, such as meat, earlier because they can try it without choking.

Small board books- a book store will have a good selection. The Kissing Hand, Love You Forever, Guess How Much I Love You are several I can recommend off-handedly.

A cute picture frame or album (Kohls has some cute ones).

Germ X/Purell that can attach to the carseat/stroller (so hands can easily be sanitized prior to touching baby).

A mosquito net for the carseat/stroller- these are handy not only for keeping mosquitos from baby, but keeping strangers from touching in public!

Hope these ideas help!

How much would you spend and would you buy?

I want to make baskets filled with baby supplies for people to buy for new moms as a gift. Like, recieving blankets, bibs, a hat and maybe some bodysuits, that kind of stuff. How much would you spend and would you buy them?

Answer
I guess it depends where you live. Around me they would probably spend close to $200. I make them for friend's showers. When they find out what they are having I always buy things I see on sale and stick it all in a Moses basket. I buy books, bottles, blankets, socks, etc.
It's a fun gift....in order to charge a lot their has to be some sort of creativity in it or something unique, not just your run of the mill stuff. Good luck!
