I don't know much, but here is what I found:
"Among Hindus in India, religious rituals resembling modern baby showers are held during the seventh month of pregnancy. In earlier times it was a function which was organized and attended by women only, but in recent years, due to India's level of western influence, both genders are often included."

I am traveling to India with a baby, has anyone done this, if so, what was it like?
ezara
I am traveling from LAX to India with a 4 month old baby. Trust me, if it wasn't an emergency I wouldn't put my baby or the passengers through this... has anyone been through this? Any tips?
Answer
My daughter came to India from Boston to India with her 6 months old son in December2003. We were not able to provide any help to her because we were all very busy in making arrangements for our second daughter's marriage. So her son got seriously sick and was under anti biotic medicine and neither she nor her husband could enjoy the wedding.
My advice is as below:-
1) Carry your own baby nappies from USA to last your visit. Nappies in India are not god.
2) Wherever you are you should always carry a small microwave oven with you. Purchase a small LG or Samsung make for only about 2500 rupees and while leaving India give it as a gift to someone who would not mind a second hand oven. Oven will be useful you for heating water , milk, food etc.
3) Only give and use mineral water to the baby, eve for washing his dishes or water bottle. Use only branded mineral water, not local make.
4) Bring enough quantity of cereal which you are giving to the baby.
Other normal precaution for protecting the baby from cold and infection need not be explained here.
