My cousin( who is like my lil sister) Is expecting another baby boy. I want to throw her a come meet baby party at my house after she has him. Now she already has an almost 2years old son so she has a ton of boy baby clothes and toys that she wants to re-use, she also doesn;t have room for tons of new toys when the old ones from her first born are as good as new. . What she does need is diapers and wipes, formula and bottles. I am having a ocean themed party bbq style. How should I word it in the invitation, not to bring gifts but diapers and wipes would be much appreciated???
Answer
That is a fabulous idea. I would state very clearly on the invitations that your cousin already has all the clothes and toys she needs for baby, but that diapers and wipes would be greatly appreciated. Your guests will really appreciate knowing exactly what brand and size she prefers, since anyone who has not had a baby will have no clue when it comes to buying diapers.
So I might say something like, "Come and celebrate the birth of Jane's new baby boy! Because (baby) has a big brother, he is all set with clothes and toys. If you want to celebrate his arrival with a gift, his greatest need is for size 1 or size 2 Pampers!"
For that matter, you could even just call it a Diaper Shower on the invitation, and also include the specifics on what size diapers and brand mom prefers. No one is going to be offended by you giving them this information - it helps insure that they spend their money where it's most needed for baby, and a pack of diapers is less than $10! I would be thrilled to have an invitation to a baby shower that made choosing a gift so easy!
One last thing to consider, since baby needs diapers, and especially if you decide to make it a diaper shower - a diaper cake!! This would make a perfect centerpiece for you. Diaper cakes bring a decorative element and a lot of atmosphere, and then after the party, mom-to-be can take the cake home as your gift to her. They are very practical centerpieces for this reason because they are designed so that every diaper is usable for baby. You get a centerpiece and a gift in one, and that saves you $$ when you're throwing a shower. Have a look!
Enjoy the party, your cousin is really going to appreciate you doing this for her. Nothing comes in handy for a new baby like diapers and wipes! Congratulations on the new addition to your family!!

Baby Introduction Party?
Stargazer
I think every baby deserves a party to celebrate their birth, not just firstborns, but I don't need any gifts or anything as this is my 3rd little one. Would it be really weird to have a party for family and friends to introduce our new addition to friends and family. A time to just come meet baby and share in our happiness?
Would you do it as a set time or have it drop in style throughout the day?
Answer
My parents had an "open house" for my son and my niece (two week age difference) for everyone to come meet them. It was wonderful to see a lot of people we hadn't seen in ages and for them to meet the little ones.
If you don't want gifts, write straight on the invitations "no gifts" or polite or witty way of going about it. One I've read was "no gifts, we only want the joys of your company to share this day" or something like that. This way people can make the decision themselves if they do want to bring a gift because they want to, not because they feel expected to.
Mom and dad basically told people to come between 1 and 5 and people could came and go as they pleased. Of course certain family members stayed until later in the evening.
There was tonnes of food and drink so you may want to start preparing stuff ahead of time. All in all, there was around 65 people that came that day and we all really enjoyed it but we were pretty pooped.
