What kind of gift to give to parents adopting a six year old child?

I have friends who are adopting a child who they have been foster parents to for 2 years. I have seen many gifts for couples adopting a baby, but none for older adoptions. Is it appropriate to give a gift to the child, the parent, both or a gift for the whole family? And what to give? I want to be thoughtful but not inappropritate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe a voucher to go to a photographer and have a family portrait done. It could be the centre piece of their home

What is a good gift to get my hostesses that are doing my baby shower?

What makes it difficult is that the hostesses are my sister in law and mother in law...2 different gifts and a big age difference. Any ideas?

Manicure or pedicure vouchers, nice bottle of wine, flowers, nice products like hand creme nail polish or lip gloss, tickets to the movies..If you want to spend more take them out to dinner, a massage voucher or tickets to a show.
