gifts for baby christening boys image
ATL 2006
My husband and I are the godparents of our best friends' baby boy. Should we go with something more religious? I don't want to buy silver monogrammed rattles, cups or anything b/c I know he will receive tons of that kind of thing.

My son got 3 stocks ($100 worth) when he was born. Fifteen years later, these stocks are worth $600.00 (between splits and reinvestments of dividends). I think that stocks, bonds and even precious metals are a decent gift for a new born.

Answer
I've given a gift of a savings bond or collectible silver bullion coin or coins, and I also have opened a savings account for the child with a starting deposit of 25 or 50 dollars (with that I put the name of the parent or parents on the account as well)
I think if you spend a maximum of 50 (I don't know how to get the pound symbol) that would be a very nice gift. You don't have to spend more than that.
I found a link for a UK site for Christening gifts:
