What's a cute way to ask my friend to be my baby's Godmother?

She lives in another state so I do not see her very often right now. Also is it too early to ask? The baby is due in May.
Lol, well I'm not really worrying about it. I just want to have fun with it because it is a big deal.
Unfortunately all of our friends and family, especially close enough friends to guide our child in Catholicism, are in another state.

You could send her a gift like an engraved frame or something along the lines saying "Godmother to Be" or a shirt, I guess... that would be really cute! Don't include any notes, let her figure it out herself and call you with LOADS of Thanks :)

My friends are having a baby girl in August and they keep dropping subtle hints that they want me to be the childs Godmother. What would be a meaningful gift that I can give to the child that she can love and cherish forever?

If you sew you could make her a special baby blanket or even a small quilt... if you give her a quilt, as she grows you can give her new pieces to add to it, once you get a couple new rows then you could teach her how to quilt. A quilt though needs to have special fabrics....as she grows. A music box engraved especially for her.... with her birth information on it... I hope this helps...
