gift registry for babies r us image
Julia
I'm going to a baby shower this Sunday. The preggo lady is registered at Babies R Us. This is inconvenient for me because there isn't one near by me at all and I'm a poor college student. I have a gift card for a department store, so I figured I would just use that to buy a baby outfit or something. This way I can pop into a store that is convenient and not have to dip into my cash. Is that weird? Do I really have to stick to the gift registry?
Answer
Not at all! I get invited to many parties, including baby showers (and I'm not the most social of people...) and the only thing that I really care is to know the baby's gender. I never give a gift that is on the registry list. I don't like people telling me what I should buy, which brand it should be, what color the mother-to-be want and which store I should buy it. I buy only a nice and really "useful" gift (bath items, diapers, wipes...), not the cutesy and very pricey things that parents ask for just to show off (and it's poor etiquette). I buy at the store that is most convenient for me. Originally, there was no requirement to gifts at baby showers. It was invented later by consumerist, inelegant and selfish people.
Buy a gift where it's most convenient for you and within your budget.

How many items from your baby registry did you receive at your shower?

I'm trying to plan out and budget for everything we will need for the baby. I'm going to register at Target and Babies R Us but I'd like to know approximately how many of those items I can expect to receive at my shower. If you didn't receive items from your registry, did you receive gift cards/ money and gifts that were not listed on your registry?
Answer
It depends on the number of guest at the shower. I had 30 to 40 people and got about 20 or so gifts, the rest gave money and gift cards.
