What would be a thoughtful gift for a first-time new mom that is not baby-related?

My dear friend is about to have her first baby. I have a few traditional baby gifts (onesies, flowers, etc.) but would also like to include a small, thoughtful gift just for her to enjoy after the birth. I have done some research online and found chocolate to be a consistent suggestion, but I would like one other small item as well.

I do not live in her area (or even in that part of the country), so gift certificates to a spa or favorite restaurant with delivery is not really an option that feel comfortable to me since I do not know the neighborhood. Donating my time to help her out is also an unfortunate impossibility.

Any ideas? I have around a $10-15 budget. Thanks everyone!

A book or movie. Chocolate is fine when breastfeeding. Some people go way overboard with "omg u can't eat that" for pregnant and nursing women.

What are good gift ideas for someone in the hospital?

My friend is pregnant and is going to have a baby in a few days. The baby has a hole in his heart so my friend has to have the baby in a hospital 6 hours away and the baby is excepted to have to stay in that hospital for at least a month. What are some things that she could use to keep her busy while she is recovering from the delivery and while her baby goes through surgeries. I know snacks are great but what kind of gift is there that can keep her mind busy while going through such a tough time?
