How much to give for baptism when it's held at a restaurant?
Frank D
My sister-in-law is having a baptism. The baptism will be held at restaurant during the lunch hour & 4 of us will be attending (me, my husband & our girls, 3 & 5 yr old). My husband seems to think $150 is appropriate, I say $100 is a VERY nice gift. Financially, we make ends meet. My husband seems to think we need to give more because we are family and that it is held at a restaurant. I keep reminding my husband that this is not a wedding, but a gift for the child... What do you think?
Answer
$100.00 is a very generous gift, for family! If it was a non family member, $50.00 would have been a nice gift. You are right, it's not a wedding it's a baptism, and for this my family has always given savings bonds. The gift is for the baby, not the adults. So you are not paying for the restaurant, you are putting money towards the baby's future! Savings bonds purchased now will be worth so much more in 18 years.
