How did one find out there was no Santa Claus?

I remember asking my dad, and he said I already knew there wasn't. I asked, how did he know? He said by the way I asked. But I had to keep mum, because my sis was 4 years younger. Kids at school told me, and I wanted to know for sure if it was true.

My older sister told me. I was five or six and she was eight or nine. I was a prissy little snot, a real pain in the neck and she most likely wanted to get back at me. We were alone in the garage and she said, "I know a secret." She pretended that she didn't want to tell me. But I wheedled and pouted and she finally "relented" and told me the "secret".

I remember feeling very disappointed. I thought that since there was no Santa, I wouldn't be getting the bride doll I wanted so badly for Christmas. I did receive the beautiful bride doll. She was a sight to behold. She wore a satin gown and a wispy veil. She carried a little bouquet of lily of the valley. She had blon
