gift for hostess baby shower image

My bosses wife is having a baby shower scheduled on Valentines Day. I just got the invitation and I have plans with my Valentine for that day. What is the proper way to decline the invitation? Do I still get her a gift? How should I give her the gift- have it shipped to her house or drop it off with the hostess of the shower? I regret not being able to go because of the work relationship, but besides that I don't really care. Thank you in advance for your response.
Answer
Just rsvp as indicated on the invitation that you can't make it. It's pretty silly to schedule a baby shower on Valentine's Day, anyway. You should send a nice card to the mother-to-be or, if you want to, send a gift, but you are in no way required to. If you want to get a gift (and there are a lot of small things that are useful for new parents) I would send it to or drop it off with the hostess so the mother can get it the day of her shower.

Should I give a gift to the hostess of my baby shower?

As the Mom-to-be should I buy gifts for the hosts of my baby shower?
Answer
I think that's a nice idea. How about a nice thank you card with a gift certificate in it for a nail/hair salon.
