My nephew is being christened next Sunday and I'm trying to decide what to get him. He's got both sets of grandparents and many aunts/uncles so I know he'll get the traditional gifts. Anyone have any new ideas that are appropriate but different?
Answer
It depends if you are actually getting a gift for the baby himself, or for the parents. At any rate, keepsakes are a nice gesture, but they're not really usable or practical so I wouldn't recommend it unless you're talking about something like a hand-print picture kit. Jewelry is also thoughtful, but can be very dangerous.
It also depends on how old the baby is. At any age, something like a piggy bank can be a very creative gift. If you have a pottery-making place around where you live, you can paint one and they can glaze it and finish it for you, so it's very personable. I've included a couple of ideas for banks depending on what you can afford. Have fun shopping! And congratulations!

What is a good christening gift for a baby boy?

Any suggestions? I've thought about the Precious Moments figurines and that's my last resort but I feel like I can find something better and not so generic as a lot of other things out there.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

I think a gift of baby silver is appropriate for the occasion - this can include a rattle, a spoon, a cross, etc. Just make sure it is real sterling silver and not silver-plate. It is an elegant and timeless gift.
