My mom's 50th birthday is next week and so this weekend we are doing a family dinner. We usually do a bed n breakfast gift certificate for a gift but my parents just got back from a trip and they are going on another in two weeks. Does anyone have any gift ideas? I would love to do a family picture but my sister is going to be away this week and returning just in time for the party.
Thank you!

Gift ideas for my mom/dad..homemade (14 yr old girl)?
Surfer-GAL
SO I always make my parents each something pretty cool for xmas (last year I made my dad a mini-baseball bat in woodshop etc,) what are some ideas of what I could make my mom and/or dad??
The problem is: I'm not in any creative classes this year at school other than ceramics and we can't take those things home yet, plus I don't really wanna give them that.
Some ideas would be awesome!!!
THANKS!!!
Answer
I made some fun bath things for my mom this year, like these "bath cookies:"
2 cups finely ground sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 T light oil
2 eggs
5-6 drops essential oil (I used vanilla, which my mom and I both love!)
Preheat your oven to 350 F.
Mix together all the ingredients.
Take a teaspoon of the dough and roll it gently into a ball (about an inch in diameter). Continue doing this with all the dough and place the balls on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake the cookies for 10 minutes, until they are lightly browned.
Allow the cookies to cool completely.
To use: drop 1 or 2 cookies into a warm bath and allow to dissolve.
I also made a bar of oatmeal soap, which I cheated on... I just shaved a bar of unscented Dove with a cheese grater, microwaved for two minutes, and stirred in the following:
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup honey (don't add too much or the soap will be sticky)
a dash of each nutmeg and cinnamon
Then I pressed it into a big heart-shaped cookie cutter for about a minute. When it had set, I popped it out and let it cool.
You can look up plenty of other recipes, as well.
Some other ideas for Mom are a beaded necklace, a knitted scarf, etc.
FOR DAD:
Salt dough is easy to make and acts just like clay. You'll need to mix together:
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. salt
3/4 c. water
Then you can shape the dough into a picture frame for his favorite family photo, a Christmas ornament, or anything else you think he might enjoy.
Bake in a 200 degree oven for 10 minutes, let cool, then use acrylic paints to add color.
Another idea is to make a pencil tin out of a can. Spray-paint the can his favorite color, then use puffy paints and other fun decorating stuff to personalize!
I hope these ideas help you out! (And I really recommend the bath cookies, I tried one and it made the whole bathroom smell AMAZING!)
