Gift to get an 8 and a half month old baby girl?

Hi, my daughter will be 8 and a half months old this christmas. Was wondering if anyone else has a similar aged child, what toys do your children enjoy playing with?

anyone of the leapfrog brand toys... they are learning toys and my daughters love them...and have learned so much from them even from an early age....

Do I need to bring a birthday gift and if so what should it be?

An old friend that I haven't seen in 15 years recently found me on FB. She has moved several hours away and we have not had a chance to get together due to the distance. She called me a few days ago to tell me that she will be in town for her daughter's birthday and invited me to the birthday dinner. I have not seen her daughter since she was 8 years old. It is going to be just an informal dinner at grandma's house with about 15 people there. Do I need to bring a gift and if so what should I buy for a grown woman that I have not seen since she was a little girl? She has a six month old baby that I will also be meeting for the first time. Should I bring a small baby gift as well?

Flowers or chocolates for the grandma, hand cream for the young mother, a soft toy for the baby.
