What is an appropriate gift for a new Jewish baby?

My husband's friends are Jewish and expecting their second baby in a few weeks (a girl). I'm kind of ignorant, but I'm unsure what to get them as a gift. Any suggestions?

I need some ideas for a "thoughtful" not money christmas gift for my husband. Money is short this season and need to come up w/an idea for him. He loves all types of sports. Any ideas, plzzzzzzzz.

and no kids! Can't afford a baby sitter, swap services with your neighbor you baby sit so she can treat her husband and vice versa or the kids go to grandma's!
