I am in the middle of trying to register for baby items because EVERYBODY i know is asking about registry items and baby showers for me, SO my question is what were the most useful items you received that you definitely use and are glad you got?
I know people always get some crazy stuff that is totally useless and just gets thrown away or re-gifted. And then there are also the items that you get and don't expect to use but it turns out to be the most useful and amazing thing.
WHAT were your amazing things?
What were your useless items?

thanks!

Answer
most useful:
swing
swaddlers (the kind that have the velcro and you just wrap around and velcro it, much easier than a blanket and it doesn't come apart like a blanket)
sleepsacks
bouncer
diapers
clothes (but so many people bought us clothes for later, like 6 - 9 month clothes that we barely had any for newborn - we will be happy at 6 - 9 months but it is nice to have some clothes for the beginning!)
baby bathtub

don't bother with:
wipe warmer
scale
changing table (if you have a dresser just get changing pad and put it on top of that)
sterilizer (you only have to sterilize bottles/nipples before you use them for the first time, they don't need to be sterilized before every use)

How often do infants need new shoes?

I am aware that their feet grow quite fast. I am thinking of getting my friend's baby a pair of boots, but they're kinda expensive so I'd like to know how long she will be able to use them. She's only a week old now, will they last till winter?

Answer
This is a really tricky purchase even if the baby is with you to buy the shoes. And there is no telling how long they will last. At that young of an age babies don't run at all consistent with the 0-3, 3-6, 6-9 month sizes. My son was born with feet a 6 month size. He still has big feet 6 years later.

I honestly never bought shoes until he was walking. I think they are cute sometimes. But what's the point? Better gifts that would be more useful are diapers, onesies, and baby basics. ALL new moms use and love these items.

Edit- If you're really stuck on shoes you could check Younkers and JC Penney. They carry little socks for babies that are printed to look like Mary Janes. I saw a pack at Younkers that had 8 different colored pairs. But I would still ask her sock size first and buy at least a size up.

Here is a link for a website that sells them.

This site has tons more cute socks! :)
